Put him in the ruck. Gus can do it all.

He does remind me of the Jordan Lewis 3rd man up rucking midfielder of a decade ago that could jump in, put his body on the line and belt it forward.

Based on form, Gus remains down back and Salem replaces Rivers. Hunt has done some great jobs on small forwards, and deserves to retain his spot. JJ has also been excellent on the wing.

It’s this atm. Who knows how it may change in the future.

Agree with this. However could Gus replace JJ on the wing instead?

Salem back to the mens club

Brayshaw back to the wingers club

Jordon back to the 23 club

Men's department*

But I think this is likley. Coaching staff have shown a desire to return to last year's GF team (apart from giving Weid an extended go) and why not.

No unforced changes. Salem to half back, Gus to wing, Jordan to bench

Bowza to the wing

But ultimately I think Riv may come out :'(

Bowey does as much running as the team needs him to do but I would be reluctant to put him on a wing. He is so effective on a back flank and so tidy with the ball that he has to stay there.

If any are vulnerable to losing their spot when Salem returns ( and this is a stretch ) it would be Jordan or Rivers.

Even Jordan hasn't done anything this season that would have people calling for his scalp.

Tough times ahead for selectors !!

I want Brayshaw staying in defence. His positioning and ability to take an intercept mark is excellent.

I also want Hunt staying in defence.

I also want JJ staying on the wing.

I also want Jordon staying on the wing.

I also want Salem returning down back.

I'd say Rivers or JJ will be the unlucky player when Salem returns. Probably more likely JJ.

I'm torn on this. I would've thought it's temporary to cover injuries, but Gus has been brilliant down back and his ability to read the play and intercept mark has surprised me. He's an elite interceptor it turns out! I'd be hesitant to shift him away from defence now, such is his impact on games this year. He's been BOG a few times already IMO.

Rivers has been down on form this season since returning from injury, so I'd say on current form he makes way for Salem when he returns from injury, whilst JJ holds his wing spot.

I just had a look at Time On Ground percentages of our small/medium sized defenders, and Rivers is significantly the lowest:

Hunt 86%

Bowey 78%

Rivers 72%

That less time on ground  could be still because of Riv's  previous injury which he still is bandaging for support or confidence.

it's a curly one and whoever or however it's solved will make us stronger at half back and wing or half forward.

Not so sure Riv will just be discarded if he is not at half back some tweaking and  experimentation may go on.

Just shows how strong a group of players we have developed as all of these would walk into other sides quite easily I would bet.

I reckon, Angus nailing that goal on the run on Sunday, was his way of re-applying for the wingers club. All the skills he's showing down back, also serve us well when displayed on the wing... as his GF performance demonstrated.

For me it’s still Hunt if they want to leave Gus at HBF, Hunt is shutting a player down, but previously Rivs did that and Bowser has too. But if they want them both then JJ is the one who might drop out if Gus goes back to a wing.

Hunt won’t go anywhere. Has locked down the oppositions best small forward all last season and without injury would’ve had a Premiership media to show for it. Has done the same this season to an even higher level. JJ has been good but think he drops out Salem. One of  Bowey/Salem could go to a wing.

True but Hunt butchers the ball way too much, so it’s defence lockdown or better disposals when comparing him and other options.

i wonder if salem couldn't play the left wing well

being a left footer an advantage

getting salem's exquisite delivery into the fwd 50 a big advantage too

just a thought

I think Brayshaw, Salem and Bowey all play down back with Lever, May and Petty.

Rivers potentially goes out at this stage

James Jordan, Tom Sparrow or Alex Neal-Bullen take on the wing role.

So James Jordon on both wings. Cool got it.

Hunt ‘butchering’ the ball is such an overrated thing to speak of as more often than not his ball use is so much better than it used to be. There is the odd error but he plays the role Hibberd did does which is vital to us going forward because the best small forward doesn’t have a say each week. None of our other defenders do if bar Hibbo (who Hunt was ahead of before injury last year). JJ will be the unlucky one.

I’m just disappointed that we don’t have a centre half back with the surname ‘Witch’.🧙‍♀️

Because with Salo back in the team playing alongside Jaidyn, you know what that line would equal? 😄

Trade for Daniel Rich and let Caro commentate every game...

I think we have to use Salem at HF - The Lionel Messi of MFC.

He can push up to the wings and be the link between our defence and forward line. Using ANB and Salem could allow us to attack from multiple positions and provide an alternative route to goal if Lingers is getting. Tagged.

Not suggesting we do this now as I’m not sure you can just change a role midway through a season but should be looked at in preseason.

For this year, hard call but we shouldn’t just drop Rivers - he needs to learn and develop. Maybe Gus moves into the midfield rotation ?

No you guys obviously have not caught up with the news.. The Demons are now allowed to play 23 on field 100 % of the game as authorised by the AFL so no no one will get dropped.

We just need to find out which player weighs the same as a duck.

no, that's the thing - he plays where the coaching dept wants him to, and he has a premiership medal to show for it, and could have another plus an all australian selection by the end of the season with the way he's playing in 2022

Yes, your right but as we both think he is really a great cognitive awareness player for us.Captain material, yes and there are others. At a recent interview one could see his insightful perspectives.Really we don't want to lose a player and club potential career member for the foreseeable future with this chap. Modern, savvy, well presented and very well spoken.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
