Was it a similar moment to when Mayโ€™s handball was smothered resulting in a Tigers goal ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜

No, Mayโ€™s handball was smothered in a good pressure act from a Richmond player. Smith handballed the ball straight to Lynch when he had multiple options and time to kick. Joel does some good things but also has some panicked moments and costs goals. He is replaced by the reigning AA back in Lever, as many have said heโ€™d be playing regular footy at a lesser team, but compared to May, Petty and Lever heโ€™s not there yet and goes out.

it wasn't one of ANB's better games last night, but he has been solid for most of the year. he will not get dropped for one off night.

As for those advocating for TMac to replace Weid - TMac 5 games (4 goals), Weid 4 games (8 goals).ย

My point was; it was a good performance by ANB when measured against the matrix that the team values. Further evidenced by the inclusion in the "best" listed by the Club.

If no injuries, it's really simple: Lever and Viney come in, Smith and Dunstan go out.

Harmes finished the game on the bench with a jacket on. If he's injured, and if Dunstan isn't concussed, he might make way for Viney. If both Harmes and Dunstan are unavailable, then we have to get a bit more creative and it might be Bedford who gets a game.

But some of the other changes suggested in this thread just aren't going to happen. ANB's not going to be dropped (IMO he wasn't anywhere near as bad as some have said). Jordon's not going to be dropped (those who query Jordon's role in the side are maybe not going to the games because his role is vital). Weideman's not going to be dropped (did enough right to get another game over TMac).

Agree. Are we sure Viney and Lever are ok for the next round? Everyone seems to be just assuming they will be.

I was kind of agreeing with you.

Well all the club's told us is that they were out for COVID reasons. Lever rolled his ankle last week but there's been no suggestion that would have kept him out of last night's game. And there's no reason to believe Viney's injured.

Sounds good, thank you.

Iโ€™m neither a Smith fan nor critic and he has had some good games this year. Butย thatย one calamity on its own warrants for him to go back to the 2โ€™s and work on his decision making skills for a good few weeks. Either he has completely panicked and wanted nothing to do with the ball (worrying for a lockdown defender), or he didnt look to see if he was giving it off to a teammate (poor peripherals).

Iโ€™ve watched the replay several times, and I am perplexed by it every time. Those kinds of brainfades arenโ€™t warranted in junior footy, let alone the AFL. Imagine if that cost your team a win.

Joel needs to learn from that mistake. Many, many learnings.

Watching the Hawks this afternoon we would definitely want Frost to keep his place in the side

ย

No changes there thanksย

Hopefully Lever and Viney come in.

And hopefully we donโ€™t forget how much we HATE Hawthorn.ย

Nibbler had a dirty night when he had the ball, but did his usual defensive acts and in no way will be in line for being dropped.ย

Really only see Viney for Dunstan and Smith for Lever.ย

Weid kicked three, canโ€™t really ask much more. Took his chances when they came. Hopefully next game he starts clunking them, there does seem to be a disconnect with where and how the balls coming in. Saw Sam do more than a few leads and few were honoured (frustratingly went to Brown in 3 on 1 instead).ย

Gee I think if people go back a bit when Petty first came in people were saying the same thing.

Joel Smith isn't a first gamer, and we're not an up-and-comer team. The standards are higher now all-around.

I think that one handball mistake was a mixture of the pressure from the tigers and a bit of colour blind. I know it happened to a couple of others through the night. In any case he will be the most likely to make way for Lever.ย

Serious question.

If Salem were fit this week, would he take Hunt's spot, or Rivers'?

Rivers. He is a super player and has a massive future but he is nowhere near his best, his wonderful kicking is lacking penetration and the run-and-carry is non existent.ย

At 6 and zero I think they would play him at Casey, he has played 2 minutes this season. Give Him a week to get some match play under his belt.ย

He is however a good depth player. I am glad we have him.

But to improve one's playing ability you need consistency and play with the best on a regular basis I did not think he was that bad, Lever and Salem, May, Bowey and Petty will be the core so one spot is up for grabs which is a good place to be guess we will all find out soon may the best player win the spot.

Hunt did a stellar job on Bolton who is a weapon. Could be important at stopping someone like Charlie Cameron who killed us in the semi final last year. If he can tidy up his ball use he might just stay.ย

After a shaky first 2 rounds, Huntโ€™s getting better by the week and should be in our side for the rest of the year.

Iโ€™ve noticed his one on one defending has been excellent this year.

If youโ€™re getting the points over a tricky opponent in Bolton, you should be considered a key staple in our defence.

Rivers.

Heโ€™s been our worst performed player this year.

ย

I'd say it's Viney, Lever for Dunstan, Smith

Both players are stiff, but that's part and parcel of playing in the reigning premiership who've won 13 in a row or whatever it is.ย

the pleasing thing is our depth is such that a lot of our VFL boys would be best 22 at other clubs at the moment. Smith would walk into a lot of teams IMO

I really like Luke Dunstan as a player and hope he finds a way to break his way into the team.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
