It’s good to have TMac get some confidence. He has been well down for a long while and he needs to start believing that he still can perform at the top level. He has looked down on himself and letting his frustrations get the better of him.
Ben Brown spent time in the VFL last year and came back a different player.
This is not the end for Tmac. It’s a reset.

That wasn’t a genuine marking attempt by Lofau. Dangerous, stupid, reportable and should be suspended.

Would have to be looked at closely.  Initially I think he was going for the ball and then finding himself out of position barrelled into our blokes.  Surely at least a free for an unrealistic attempt at least.  .

It was mentioned that Matt Buntine is due back soon after suffering a calf injury.

I know many posters have been wondering why he hasn't made an appearance yet.

van Roo has some wheels

He's going to be another Jackson - everything, including consistency - points in that direction but he will be a gun forward in that process.

I  thought Chandler was more consistent over 4 quarters so I would go Chandler, baker, Rosman and Milkshake of the MFC boys

Surprised he didn't get an offer from another club during the trade period but I don't see him dislodging Jordon in the pecking order.

Pleased TMac was able to get a few kicks. I’m supportive of him being dropped, but I’m also a fan and hope he is able to keep the heat on Brown and Weid.

Mitch White - easily our best player, sadly body didn’t hold up to afl work loads.

T Mc - found space a few times but couldn’t clunk any when defended, his decision making with the pill is still odd and he keeps barreling umpires.

Rosman - loves a kick out and handball receive. Stronger in the air than expected. Still very suspect with ground ball contests. Something to work with though.

Baker - a class above racking them up at half back, some ok defensive moments but mostly sweeping. Not exactly afl footy.

Chandler - has his good moments but his handballs are fumbly and he can’t escape traffic.

Melksham - lots of lazy high contact free kicks and iffy decision making. Otherwise good.

Daw and Brown - fine.

Deak Smith - some very strong defensive efforts and good aerially but a few mistakes, still one to watch. Put the clamps on Stack

JVR - are we Sauntner-ing him by playing 2 mature talls and 2 rucks? He relegated to flank duty.

Ellison - solid as a rock, has he got room to develop?

Tugboat Tomlinson - commentators raved about his first half racking stats but he wasn’t that good. Not sure he has full confidence in the knee

Laurie - he’s classy. But he struggles to win it in tight and he’s just slow. Sadly doesn’t look like an AFL level athlete at this stage

AMW - does a bit of everything. Worth watching.

The Shep mates kid - has talent and competes. Got to see more.

I don't know if I want to see Buntine back will stifle the progress of Ellison who looks the goods. Could be on the radar to be drafted. Big bodied key backs are hard to find. I thought Melksham was BOG the rest played pretty good footy. Will Woewodin be out with concussion next week?

Possible team next week

B: Hibberd, Buntine, J.Smith

HB: Baker, Tomlinson, Rosman

C: Melksham, Dunstan, McVee

HF: Laurie, van Rooyen, Chandler

F: M.Brown, McDonald, Bedford

FOLL: Daw, White, Munro

IC: D.Smith, Moniz-Wakefield, Ellison, Grey, Steele

Excellent summation DeeSpencer. People are overrating the games of Baker and Rosman by looking at their stats. There was plenty of stat padding by these 2 from kick-outs which I found annoying. At AFL level, May roosts it long to contest, yet at times Baker was calling for the short 15m kick to the back pocket. Baker will be a good VFL player, whilst Rosman is still a work in progress.

The experienced players impacted the game, whilst the youngsters had their brief moments. I wish it was the other way around. Would love to see Laurie play a consistent 4 quarter game.

Shepherd and Steele look very promising.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
