This prompted me to see how the current top 8 sides have fared this year against each other:

Of the 40 games so far only 10 have been between current top 8 sides.ย

Games played vs each other, In order of the current ladder:

  • Demons:ย  0
  • Lions: 1 (Beat Magpies)
  • Dockers:ย  1 (Loss to Saints)
  • Saints: ย  2ย  (Beat Dockers; Loss to Magpies)
  • Swans: 1 (Beat Cats)
  • Blues:ย  0
  • Cats:ย  3 (Beat Lions and Magpies; Lost to Swans)
  • Magpies:ย  3 (Beat Saints; Loss to Lions and Cats)

It looks like there will be a bit of a shakeout coming when these teams start playing each other (and some play each other twice).ย ย

Saints, Blues, Dockers and Magpies would have expected 'easier' fixtures this year but given the 2021 ladder is a bit upside down that may not be the case.

The top 4 are still likely to be Demons, Lions, Swans and Cats.ย  Roll a dice for the rest and who might replace them. ย

Definitely going for the Hawks today ... not sure they are an ultimate threat (Hawks) but it would be great to see the Cats incur a setback

Talk already beginning that north should get a priority pick at the pointy end of the draft

ย They arenโ€™t even as bad as we were during the Neeld and early Roos years

that's the media for ya.ย  always looking to drag up some contentious point for the sake of a few clicks

It is not to often you would want to see a Hawrhorn victory but today is one of them. I hope they tear girlong apart or beat them by a point after the siren.

gave me a chuckle

Hard to think that in years gone by Easter Monday was probably one of the biggest home and away games of the year

You don't start your captain on the bench. I don't care what the reason is, you just don't do it.

Another joke decision goes the Cat's way

Serious question . . . is there any player at Essendscum that would get a game at Melbourne? And if so, who is the Essendscum player/s and who would they replace at Melbourne?ย

(And Stringer is only an option if you're prepared to throw out the no _ _ _ _ head policy.)

We are still recovering from Lockdownย

Give it another 2 years and attendances will be back to normalย

If Geelong win there will be a two game gap already (3 for us) between the top 7 and the rest of the competition.

Don't think I've seen a ladder separation like that this early on in the season.ย

I really like this new, improved Geelong.

Hawks hardness opening up the cats defence like a tin of dog food. I don't reckon they can keep it up for 4 quarters, but any team that can will beat the Cats. Ruck going down changes the game - he was doing brilliant ruck work.

Jeez the cats look slow. They'll smack some underdeveloped teams but they're no threat whatsoever.

Hawthorn looking like a poorly assembled cheap knock off version of us.ย

If you want to destroy the amazing culture weโ€™ve built you can go get that fat [censored] Stringer. He is a cultural cancer.ย

Now, letโ€™s go Hawks. I am sick to death of Geelong.ย

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
