put the cue in the rack in the last, as we did against the suns, I get it, but gee, the fan in me would have loved to smash both teams, especially away from home.

see y'all at the G next week

We keep our smashings to finals mate.
April is a boys game.

Apart from letting port kick junk time goals I was pretty happy with that.
Last year we weren't pretty and won the flag.
We're better this year but still plenty of room for improvement.
We take the 4pts and move on to next week.
The seasons a marathon .... Not a sprint.

[censored] you Melbourne. That was a trash display of footy.

Had the opportunity to really put the foot down but instead we tried to be too cute with our ball use going forward. 3 weeks in a row now that we've just played sloppy and let opposition back into the game.

Are McDonald and Weideman actually for real?? 2nd week in a row where they've had opportunity to cement their spot while Brown is out and both failed miserably.

Both could barely give a contest or bring the ball to ground. Sooner these two are phased out for good the better.

Petracca is a star and all but [censored] hell he's sloppy and selfish at times.

Thank God for Steven May.

A lot won't like it but you're spot on, could've won that game by 15 goals, missed opportunity to get a huge percentage boost. Overuse of the ball, fumbling when in the clear due to going with one hand. You can toss a coin who goes out between TMac and Weid, one rarely gets near it and the other has resumed his meh self. Get BBB back in asap. Kozzie a bit less chasing and a bit more getting the ball yourself.

Those junk time goals really sum up that side right now.

Think that's a better win than the consensus is giving credit for.

We were in complete control the whole match. We even did the unthinkable and let langdon finish on the bench, that's how much control we were in.

Percentage won't matter when we're 22 and 0

Great example of us managing our fitness this week.

Usually Langdon, May and Tomlinson play 100% (Lever too when he's fully fit).

Tonight we gave all of them rests - May 97%, Tomlinson 96%, Langdon 95%, Lever 89%.

Mega Frustrated- gift kills where we could have won by 20 goals are so rare  this was a big missed opportunity.

Still very happy for the win, and I loved tehe deefence.

Not so sure. Forward line needs work and bbb back asap.  Others are just going.

Premiership standard defence safely in place.

That was gross.

Hinkley is done.

A multi-year finals team playing like a rebuilding side to try and mitigate the damage.

Absolutely awful.

Dominated most of the night.

Defensively great.

Max was BIT, back in town.

No votes for Trac or Clarry but others stood up.

Everyone played their role, did their bit.

Take the win and look for avenge to last year's defeat by GWS in 10 days.

SACK GOODWIN amirite?

Far out. The bar has gone through the roof with some of you people. It was a good, strangling win. Not great, not particularly exciting - the Jordon touch on the line was the only time my heart rate got above resting, but we got the job done.

I'm just waiting for someone to say we're the worst 4-0 side of all time or something.

Surely the club is calling Clarko after that display!

I would prefer mcdonald going back to find some form, he does not chase and has not provided a lot of drive this year, hope he can recapture his form. Dropping him may give him the drive to try a bit harder, chase a little more. Weids needs a chance to show what he can do, this was obviously not the game for forwards, with our poor inside 50's.

Yep even though Tom was marginally better I think Weid needs to be given proper time in there. Whatever was going on with the style of game if very rarely open to the point of talk forwards having an impact. I’m not giving them excuses but almost every contest were massive packs and the only one on one I think Weid got he was clearly being held.

Sam should be given a body of games to prove his Essendon performance wasn’t a fluke.

I think those who are frustrated by the win tonight need to remind themselves we’re we’re winning in similar ways this time last season. The game tonight was never out of our control and coming off short breaks plus the interstate travel the fitness staff are likely managing the players a bit.

GWS next week will be a much sterner challenge I’d say.

As for Port, they looked lifeless tonight. Tried to strangle us with no way to attack, baffling tactics. We look at our most vulnerable when teams keep the ball in motion to shift our zone.

I think Hinkley could be in some trouble.

Wow. Port supporters easily pleased clapping their players going down the race🤣

I thought an undermanned Port gave good effort all game right until the end, didn't totally drop their bundle skills wise either, continued to take risks and took on the game to an exent.

They were just out classed by a much better team.  I'd be ok with that as a Port supporter as far as the players they put on the park.

I swear we have supporters who’d be furious if we had an ugly 4 goal win in a Grand Final! Last years finals series spoiled everyone

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
