If they can keep their top players on the park this year, they could go deep into finals. Swans are a top four team and will push for a flag in coming years. They missed top four by percentage last year, and had some close unlucky losses. They’ve got great young talent thanks to their dodgy academy players the last few years. They’ve got solid leaders too, with Parker the best of the lot. Not surprising we went hard for him a few years ago. Swans should finish top four this year and could give us trouble. We scraped by them last year at the G in one of your hardest games. 10
dl4e 5,851 Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 When Brissy got to within a point of port in the last I said to junior we will now see what sort of side port are. A very good side would not give up the 1 point advantage and a good side would still win even if the opposition hit the front. Look at the last 2 prelims and tonites game and it starts to add up. It is however only round 1 and the stiffness is still there. 2

WERRIDEE 5,638 Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 We are still top of the tree. Bulldogs won't be top 4. Carlton will be top 4. Richmond are finished. Collingwood might surprise a few. Normal St.Kilda. Geelong still have some fight in them left. Essendon are the big disappointments expected big things from Essendon they look like pretenders. The Giants are treading water We will see the real Sydney next week. Brisbane lucky home win. Port ran out of men. 1 1

Maybe, doubts on their ability to repeat for an entire season Richmond are finished. Yup Collingwood might surprise a few. Not us, given we lost to them last year Normal St.Kilda. Should've snagged a flag in the late 2000s - they're hard to win Geelong still have some fight in them left. Sadly - but it's a long year, and I'll happily beat them again in a Prelim Essendon are the big disappointments expected big things from Essendon they look like pretenders. I didn't and they're a Jake Stringer season ending injury away from bottom four The Giants are treading water. Jury's out for mine We will see the real Sydney next week. TBD indeed - but I reckon Buddy might take a few weeks to hit the kiloton Brisbane lucky home win. Much less afraid of my preseason GF opponent pick now after seeing that Port ran out of men. An also-ran if ever I saw one

Cats look like they have made some nice adjustments, Dogs are still a good team with holes and are coached well. Blues look like they are on the up. Swans and GWS both look decent and I am not sure what to make of Lions and Port just yet. Freo could be the surprise packed of the Interstate teams but i still think the top 6 will be tight like last year. 1

Balance Demon 92 Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 I was at the game last night, with a Port and Brisbane supporters. The standard was pretty poor and it was a matter of who could make the most errors. What killed Port was the player who ran into the 50 and could have run another 20 meters then he decided to pass the ball by foot from 35 meters directly in front to the Brisbane backman. It was soul destroying for Port. That was in effect a 12 point turn around. I was always coached, "If you can kick the goal, then do so".
Fritta and Turner 4,688 Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 Port do find a very entertaining way to lose 1

I think the conditions suited Brisbane better, plus home crowd, and to me they were very disappointing. Poor skills. Looked lethargic for a good portion of the game. I know Zorko was injured but their midfield looked slow. I wasn’t blown away, and this is from someone who thought the Lions would be our biggest threat this year. Port are Port. They do a lot and then they fall apart like a cheap suit in finals. See also Geelong. 2

Conditions were poor last night and it was like watching a game in the rain (although the skills improved after half time) It's interesting that the AFL have put the worst 3 match-ups last this round. No free-to-air on Sunday arvo is highly questionable as well ... those without cable can watch the NRL or NBL on free-to-air today But next week sees the Tigers vs GWS in a return to the 3.20pm Sunday FTA slot I'm not at all surprised re the Cats ... too many skilled players to fall away but not sure they are a threat for the flag. Finals - yes Edited March 20, 2022 by Macca

Also, they probably have the best Football Dept personnel in the competition. The Swans changed 1/2 the list over a 3 year period and already these young boys playing top 4 footy. We hear so little Sydney news here in VIc (which is probably fine by Longmire) that it feels sudden, but it is just another indication of Sydney doing Sydney things really well. 5
