absolutely elite pressure - his off-ball work and relentless running goes unrewarded but is vital for our structure

IN: lever, hibberd
OUT: salem, tomlinson

Out: Salem, T Mc

In: Hibberd, Lever

FB: Smith ย May Hibberd
HB: Bowey Tommo Lever
C; Langdon Petracca Brayshaw
HF: Harmes Brown ย ANB
FF: Pickett Fritsch Spargo
Foll: Gawn Oliver Viney
Int: Hunt, Harmes, Sparrow, Jordon
S: Bedfordย

My guess is Lever doesnโ€™t get up, Tom starts forward and Gus back. But if Lever is right to go I just donโ€™t see our forward line being better with an extra tall. Weโ€™re better with the extra midfield rotation and using bigger mids and rucks for forward line heightย

How the hell is Lever going to return from a tear in 10 days? that'd be super human wouldn't it? everything i see suggest a few weeks at a minimum.

Itโ€™s not a tear that needs to heal. The tear actually โ€˜releasesโ€™ the painful area of the plantar fascia (big sheet of connective tissue on the sole of the foot) and given it settles over a few days, away you go. As has been mentioned, itโ€™s a good thing.ย

Itโ€™s like the appendix of connective tissues.

Exhibit A, our first goal.ย

Kozzie put a beautiful block on the defender to create enough space for langers to balance and kick.

Smart, disciplined and team focused.

How many small forwards in the AFL would do that rather than attack the ball and try to score himself (which he would have well been within his rights to do).

Similar to the block that set up trac's dribble goal in the GF.

Doesn't get a score assist or score involvement. Perhaps a one per center, but no other stat for that play.

But I'll bet a million dollars the coaching staff count those pressure acts and that they are one of kozzies kpis.

Agree early on, he was high pressure

But he looked very flat as the game wore on, and seemed to hobble towardsthe bench for a break late. Wondering if he's a bit underdone

ย

In : Hibberd, Lever, Rivers

Out : Salem, Tomlinson, Hunt

Bedford to sub again.

If so Hunt stays.

Perhaps less underdone than physically exhausted.

Kozzie, rivers, bowey, jordon and Sparrow are all really young, so you'd think a short preseason would take its toll.

More than for older blokes with 6,7 8 preseasons to fall back on.

Gawn looked beyond buggered in the last.ย
I think we wonโ€™t be at our best for another 4-5 weeks.ย

Smith clearly is not competing with Lever, but with Hibberd, Hunt, Tomlinson etc. ย Iโ€™m a doubter on Smith, but dropping him right now would be a bad call. ย Other than the dodgy Weightman free kick he conceded, he was really good and needs 10 to 15 games of continuity to show what he is made of. He may become a really good versatile defender.

Agree with all you have said , But I will go to the grave maintaining...... THAT HE IS A FORWARD!! I rated him EXCELLENT TONIGHT!

Gold Coast seem a very quick team. You may not need to go too tall in the backline although with Rivers, Salem and Hibberd under a cloud we may not have a choice, unless we want to give Laurie a try.

Donโ€™t see Lever coming in just yet - but weโ€™ll see - but otherwise why change the backline? Including TMac there? They conceded 3 goals after half time to one of the best attacking teams in the comp.

ย

But I am a doubter about Jordon - tries hard, yes, but a strictly average player and worse: he is a slow thinker. For me

Out ย  Salem, Jordon

In ย  ย  ย Bedford and either Weed or Majak

!00%. Mentioned by the commentary team (might have even been Daisy) that the players getting so around him after his goal was likely because it was reward for all those selfless things he does.

We need a conflicted gutter journalist to get some leaks and tell us if he's going to be playing or not. Where the hell can we find such a rare beast?

In: Hibbo Out: Salem

probably not worth risking Lever for a trip to the Coast

Disagree, didnโ€™t see too much of that elite pressure tonight & 5 possessions is not good enough, thought Bedford was better & got involved in the game.

ย

Bedford for Hibberdย

Smith stays, his best game.

Don't rush Lever, Tmac back and Weid gets a go.

Not sure re Hunt, would swap for Rivers on balance.

ย

You'd imagine that Lever, Rivers and Hibbo would come back in, which is a good boost.ย

in terms of who goes out, probably Bedford, Hunt, Tommlinson?ย

I didn't mind Tom McDonald down back again, i thought he was quite solid. might be something we have a look at over time.

I didn't think Hunt did a lot wrong. Was he playing a lock down role on Weightman?

I wonder whether if they'll leave Tmac down back until Lever is right? Could that mean Weideman comes in to support Ben Brown?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
