If not us, then..?

I want to see us win one first at the G (as opposed to watching lockdown in 2021) and experience it first hand before I start getting magnanimous.

After that, I'd choose GWS or Gold Coast as no one in Melbourne would really know or care it actually happened. A tumble weed went through the CBD on the night of West Coast beating Collingwood in the 2018 GF.

Then I wouldn't mind St Kilda finally jagging one for their supporters.

Who will win if not us: Brisbane. Rayner is back. Hipwood and McStay were huge outs in September. Zak Bailey is developing at the rate of knots. They got the Sydney GF 2016 treatment in those last few minutes against the Dogs. Their build has been consistent. Their coach is a grade A operator.

The only thing that will hinder them is if Zorko and Neale prioritize possession numbers over penetration and meters gained. That’s what shanked them against us. Plenty of the pill was gained but little was done with it.

Who I’d like to win: The Saints or Freo. The latter is pretty unlikely but I would like to see Brett Ratten get some form of redemption. Plus, the Saints on the ground would have to be the most unlucky team in AFL history. They’ve been self destructive on a scale probably matched by us and Richmond, but the bounce in ‘10 and Scarlett’s toe poke in ‘09 were 2 real sliding doors moments in the space of two years.

1. Who do you think will win the flag?

2. Who would you like to see win the flag?

With the season just around the corner I thought this topic might be an interesting discussion point. Of course all of our desires would be to see us go back to back and hold up that cup for the 14th time at the rightful heartland of our great club and game. Having said that, I am interested to see where peoples thoughts are should we not be featured in the Grand Final.

I personally think Brisbane will be the one most likely (watch them fall off a cliff this year now), while I have a soft spot for St Kilda due to many of mates being long suffering supporters, something we can all relate to, and would prefer them over any other team to win.

Yep, the Sainters are due for some good luck, providence and greater success. However, it is difficult to imagine the Saints improving adequately in one season (almost) to play off - and win - a Grand Final. I feel strongly that the Dees will do it again in  '22, possibly in a GF against Brisbane. The horizon for the coming season is broad, scattered, lean in terms of depths of talent in general amongst 'other' sides and stewing in an atmosphere of cloudless, untold sky. The Dees, in comparison, represent that great, tall and enduring mountain ash in that distance between the Premiership of '21 and that of the '22 season.

I’ll be barracking for the Swans.

Geelong are always my least favourite team because they get such an arm chair ride to the finals, and every year I pray for them to finally fall off the cliff.

Collingwood. No. Obviously.

Brisbane have some players and a coach I like, but they are offset by Zorko and his pathetic attempts to manage his reputation after he clearly did the wrong thing.

Go Swannies.

Would prefer to see Swans win it...

..then Brisbane

Geelong but Danger gets injured in Prelim and can't play, Scott gets COVID & can't coach.

Collingwood but Howe misses due to injury.

Sorry for the bit of mean spirit but I couldn't take Howe or Danger holding up the cup.

If you think Jack Ginnivan is already unbearable imagine him with a premiership medallion around his neck.

Our only kernel of comfort being the likelihood that some of their team would o.d. in the post match celebrations.

Sad sacks

Pies vs Swans should be a little better than excellent and outside of Melbourne will moderate the fan noise.

BT is my biggest fear.

The winner against the Cats is the inevitable favourite I reckon and  if it's the Pies they won't die wondering.

Anyone who actually enjoys elite sport would enjoy them winning that game.

It would be like watching Gabelich running down to goal past the Northern Stand in fast forward and the Dee's not being in danger of defeat

Very quiet on 'Land tonight @WalkingCivilWar.

There’s a reason for that QD… Scrolling through Demonland while at a Parent/Teacher isn’t a good look. 😁

Are you the parent, teacher or student?

I’m the parent, and my son is the moody teenage boy who would rather stick knitting needles in his own eyeballs than be seen in public with me. Apparently I’m embarrassing. 🙄

May of us have been through that - very difficult. Send him to the SCG this weekend with the knitting needles.

    CONSISTENCY by The Oracle

"I think we have got a team that can win a premiership, and if we get in this year, I don't think there is a team that is going to want to play us. This year is not a write-off, I don't concede that. Not at all." — Collingwood President Jeff Browne. I love this sort of optimism from the Magpie President after his club’s eleven goal defeat at the hands of the fast rising Hawks. It’s consistent with the fighting spirit of the club that won last year’s flag.  I only wish I could say the s

    FEARS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne’s worst fears about the absence of Max Gawn were realised when it received a shellacking from Fremantle’s ruckmen Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson who dominated the hit out tally in their game at Optus Stadium on Sunday by a massive 47 to 19. As a result, the 50-point deficit at the end of the game proved to be a loss that was long foreseen that was two years in the making and demonstrated a complete lack of hindsight and planning from the club. To add insult to injury, Jackson was a D

    RAIN CHECK by Whispering Jack

The Frankston Dolphins broke a run of six straight losses against their neighbours, the Casey Demons and kept their hopes for a long-awaited return to the VFL finals alive with a 27 point victory over at Kinetic Stadium. Casey was welcomed to the Peninsula by grey skies, heavy rain and angry seas with threatening white-capped waves whipped up by gale force winds. After a slow start in the opening term when they failed to take advantage of the breeze, it appeared that the Demons had decided
