let's hope that for a super fit athlete with intensive care it will be less than 6 weeks

Unless he went into the game with chipped cartilege, sounds like a new injury?

Yes just a coincidence.

Was a clash of knee caps with Salem coming off 2nd best (chipping some cartilage)

Conservative guess would be 6 to 8

Sure beats an ACL

I’m assuming, and pretty confidently that they’re talking about the ‘articular cartilage’ rather than his meniscus, which is commonly termed ‘the cartilage’. Confusing, I know. The articular cartilage is the super-smooth surfacing we all have on the end of our bones to act as a joint surface. This can be subject to cracks, fissures, softening, chips, and ultimately, degradation over time that ends in bone exposure and likely joint replacement to resurface those bones (with titanium and nylon). It sounds like Christian Salem has had a bit of that artic. cartilage ‘chipped off’. What they’ll invariably do is surgically (keyhole) smooth the edges, and either ‘puncture’ the bone beneath to create a scar tissue ‘surfacing plug’, or lay down a matrix of organic material in the defect to have it function as original surface. Both take time to become weight-bearing and solid to increased stressors. I’d be surprised if he’s back within 8-10 weeks. (All the above based on the opening assumption).

At least it's not an ACL... at least it's not an ACL... if you say it fast 100 times you feel better

Top 3 players I think we can least afford to lose and one of our most important.

I remember a team mate with a torn meniscus was about 6 weeks with surgery way back when i was a junior soccer player. With advancements and access to better medical practices nowadays, they may have shaven that back a few more weeks. hard to say how similar this type of injury is though.

I think Bowza has the foot skills to become the key play maker while Salo is away. He is not as good 1-1 or overhead but Bowza's class can make the difference

torn meniscus

Two things. If it was a meniscus injury, I’m confident that would have used the term. The other being that you don’t ‘chip’ a meniscus.

We shall not forget.

So in successive matches the thug Bontempelli has tried to take out Oliver, and has taken out Salem.

Hope our boys have long memories.

he's a very big boy is the bont. 194cm and about 100 kegs, especially compared to salo

you don't try to run through him as salo tried

Such a crazy coincidence.

I was just about to post EXACTLY the same thing.

Well almost.

I have him back in 2-3 weeks.

Yes, and has equally good decision making ability. JT rated this part of his game when drafted.

Is this anger towards Bont serious?

Bont made a fair and legal tackle. Wasn’t a free kick and no intent to hurt. It’s a contact sport and these things happen. He is a pretty fair player. Can't say I understand the thinking that he deserves some sort of square up for a tough, fair tackle.

Totally agree. There was nothing in it. A tackle that went wrong and hurt an already NQR knee from the looks of things.

There are a lot of players at the Dogs I cannot stand, but the Bont is a star and a humble one at that. Never seen him do anything untoward on field or off.

Thanks...I was wondering how you chip a soft tissue.

Generally I agree.,  But in the GF he did choose to bump Oliver and hit him in the head. Should have been reported, but no surprise he wasn't...AFL.

No worse than Viney’s hit on McRae.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
