The injury list was our most valuable player in our premiership year and here's hoping that continues next year.

Hopefully ANB's knee concern isn't concerning.

Tomlinson will be a good replacement for Petty if he's not available for the start of the season. Those two are probably fighting for the one spot regardless.

Speaking of injury list..

Really disappointing if it's an ACL. He's actually one of my favourite young guns to watch. I rate him higher then his brother.

I found David King so annoying last year saying that a healthy list is an extra player when you get to finals... but as it turned out he was dead right.  All the other "contenders" except maybe Port were missing key structural players and couldn't handle it.

Fingers crossed for this year!

So does this mean Petty just had a bad corkie? Or is Jay Z working off old news

Petty was on crutches but not in a moon boot and was weight bearing, so hopefully whatever it was it's minor.

This one is real tragic. Out of contract at season's end too, horrible luck for GC.

Former Melbourne NGA and Gold Coast’s top draft pick Mac Andrew was involved in the incident and also injured.

Not one post-season surgery . . . except for actually two. Nice work J. Clark. I see News Corp have set up a journalism academy at the University of Melbourne's business school. Apply today.

The two post season surgeries were minor tonsils and wisdom teeth removals. Not exactly surgeries that will impact on a player physically.
I think that’s fair reporting.

"Melbourne has a clean bill of health heading into the practice match phase, with only minor dental surgeries for Luke Jackson and Trent Rivers." It's not that hard.

I would have thought Riv would have been much more concerned how the " smile effect" on his teeth with his surgery far more than Dogga as he could easily transition to a career in modelling or some such promotional opportunity.

But that's why we love Dogga not fazed by broken tooth and newspaper highlights to boot!!  The ultimate team man who seemlessly has taken over about 30 mins of Maxy's  ruck work his 2 seasons career!!

Petty's injury to his calf is just a corkie according to the Herald Sun

A few days before Trac was wearing this in an Instagram story.

I’m told it’s a muscle stimulating device - meant to be beneficial for muscle recovery and injury prevention and that pain and swelling will inhibit the action of muscles required to stabilise a joint. With his history of knee issues he is just using a recovery strategy to ensure when he trains / plays his musculoskeletal system is functoning optimally to reduce his chances of reinjury

Thanks for explaining @Demonland, was about to google hyperice. We’ve come a long way since the days of frozen pea bags resting on joints.

I’m concerned that Goody was part of the group, and is only missing from the photo because he just stepped out to purchase a group lotto ticket.

And yet…..still just ice.

I recall in an interview last year Goodwin said something like:   Petracca's knee can blow up after a game so he doesn't do much with it at training on a Monday.

Going on his burst of speed from centre bounces, displayed brilliantly in the GF, he isn't impaired by the knee in games.  Probably all part of the Burgess mantra of building 'physical resilience' and not resting players with 'niggles' from training or from playing.

This pic now explains the round marks you see on Trac’s legs every time he plays. I used to think they were cupping bruises. Thanks for solving the mystery.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
