People forget that 2016 was the first year of the bye before the finals. 

The dogs were battered but got a rest while the teams in the top 2 were beaten from memory.

The more I reflect on it as the months go by, the more I realise that your second sentence is completely justifiable.

17-1-4 record, percentage of 130.8%, worst of the four losses was by 20 points, on top of the ladder for 13 out of the 23 H&A weeks, at least one win over every single finalist, and then a finals series in which three of the next four best sides other than us couldn't really get close to us (playing none of the finals at our true home ground and giving up some degree of home ground advantage each time), all the while dealing with COVID disruptions, schedule changes and hubs.

I guess, somehow, it still hasn't sunk in yet.

Adelaide’s first was 1997 so that’s 25 seasons. Ironically, it was done only 4x in the prior 25 seasons as well.

The fact that clubs win back-to-back premierships or 3 peats makes the players who played in all 2 or 3 life long respected players of their respective clubs.

There some clubs who have won 2 premierships in a 3 year period which is also a great achievement.

The fact that clubs like Richmod have won 3 premiership in 4 years is also great.

I would love the MFC to replicate the 1955-1960 performance in the next 5 years but I would also be happy with 3 premierships in the next 6 years with no back-to-back.

To win a premiership has become harder in recent years because the competition has become more even and fierce at the top end where teams who peak in the finals win the premiership whether they play 3 or 4 games in the finals.

And an average losing margin of 11.75 points (or an average "not winning" margin of 9.4 points if you add in the draw with Hawthorn).

Your post  demonstrates how far the club - and supporters -  have come in 2021.

The above statement would seem ridiculous several years ago, and maybe even in 2020.  But now a perfectly reasonable ambition, and a good chance of occurring. Maybe the Dees are the only club currently placed to hold such a possible target.

A huge swathe of the 2021 GF team will still be only half to 3/4 the way through their careers, and Trac, Oliver, Petty, Fritsch, Spargo, Jackson, Lever , Langdon, Sparrow and Jordan (50% of the Premiership players) will be hardened 25 to 30 year olds. 

Max will be the newly appointed and recently retired great and Ruck coach in 2027.

Remind the site of this post Durango around late August I'd say with confidence.

Imo Sydney and GWS are the two clubs who could worry us especially if they have no injuries. Last year both seemed to match up well against us.

I think we have Gee, Brisbane, dogs and Richmond covered and to a lesser extent port aswell

Feel the same way. The only caveat is the Dogs, by good fortune of genes and their academy, will go into next year with Sam Darcy who looks like he could have an immediate impact on their ruck/forward stocks, in much the same way we have had with Jackson. Then you add Bruce and a years development into Ugle-Hagan who could be a wildcard hybrid forward, and their forward line looks very dangerous going into next year. A stacked forward line would have flow-on effects in improving their defence too if someone shifts back. It's very much a wait and see. I don't think they have as strong a culture as we do, the cracks showed between 2017-2019 or so, so who knows if their club will get stronger or massively underperform on expectations, while other teams rise.

Or maybe the question should be “how many times has a team won after winning their first premiership the year before”. Because we are talking about us going back to back which is a 1 in 5 chance based on the last 25 years, and clearly after we have won 2 in a row the 3rd is easier (1 in 2 chance).
