Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Contact tracing is no longer a thing. The purpose of QR codes is to ensure that only double-vaxxed people are entering establishments the access to which requires double-vax.
For example, unvaccinated people are allowed to enter supermarkets, therefore QR scanning is not compulsory.

i must be missing something. how does using a qr code ensure someone is double (or triple) vaxxed?

only sighting the vax certificate can give that assurance

It doesn’t ensure someone who’s entering the premises is vaxxed.
But since it registers one’s vax status it will indicate if an unvaccinated person enters. In this case it’s then known if and where the unvaccinated have been. Upon scanning the QR of a particular establishment, your digital certificate is married up with the unique code of that establishment.
I’m guessing the staff originally employed to perform contact tracing are now ‘cross-referencing’ this info.

Reworded some of the above in an attempt to make it understandable. Methinks I’ve failed in the endeavour.

are you saying that when i scan a qr code the details of my vaccination digital certificate (if on my phone) are forwarded to the web site determined by the qr code?

That’s how I heard our health minister (Foley) explain the whys and wherefores on the news.

Not sure if you are thinking the info goes to the website of the establishment being entered.

Just to clarify, it is forwarded to the government's website that they once used for contact tracing, not the website of the establishment being entered.  Huge privacy issues if that was the case.

No, he wasn't.

Nevertheless, let's all move on. If Jack Darling wants to forego his career because of his position on vaccines, that's entirely his choice.

so, that gets back to my original post. what's the point of entering the qr code if it just goes to a non active gov dept?

are afl venues then going to ask you to display your digital vax certificate on your phone as a condition of entry?

The QR scan shows the vax status on your phone which is what the person on the door looks at to let you in (or not).  Those without the vax status linked to the QR system can show paper proof of vax to enter.  For these people there is really no need to scan the QR code.

Yes, AFL venues will ask everyone to show digital (QR scan) or paper proof of vaccination.

Yep.

The same rules as for pubs and restaurants - the logic being that in those environment people are sharing a space for extended periods so the risk of transmission is high.

So, the fewer unvaccinated people in such environments the better - for them (coz they won't get covid and get super sick) and more importantly vaccinated patrons  (coz unvaccinated people are more likely to have covid).

bear with my confusion

you said the qr goes to the gov not the venue, so how does the guy at the door know?

last time i scanned at the g there was no venue person there. just qr codes plastered at various places with no supervision

Last time I was at the G there was a bloke there and when I pulled the proof of vaccination papers from my pocket "As I don't have a phone" he couldn't have been less interested.
Didn't even look at it.
Was happy enough to check the tick on my sisters phone though.

A digital vax certificate/a green tick appears on your phone once you have QR scanned in.  The person simply looks at your phone.

As @binmanposted it is requirement at bars and restaurants and numerous othe venues.

I would assume the 'venue person at the G' will be the person on the turnstile or security checking your bag.

Someone might tell us what happened re vax status checking in December when the club held its GF re-enactment at the G.  Just noticed @Fork 'em's post.  I guess is the event he is referring to, or maybe it was the cricket?

my dig vax cert is in my digital wallet. it doesn't pop up magically when i do the qr code thingy

when asked by someone (sports venue or restaurant) for vax status i just open my digital wallet and show the cert image.....no need to scan qr code

so again......why bother with qr code scanning

As I understand it you won't have to do the QR scan; just continue to show your digital wallet.

Not everyone has a digital wallet so some people will still need to QR scan to show vax status.

I think the government press info used the term 'QR scan' as a generic phrase to say people need to show their vax status/certificate (which can take several forms).  Also, the government prefers we still QR scan even tho data isn't used but most people have stopped doing so unless they have to.

Exactly.

I don't have a digital wallet.

To show my vax status i always scan the QR code to bring up my services app and vax certificate.

Or for my regular haunts that i have saved, just pull up the app.

Love the fact that this year i'l be adding the g as a favorite

Here we are all forken triple vaccinated,  we can still get it, still pass it on .... But not as bad or so the spin doctors will have you believe.
The only people he is supposedly "putting at risk" are himself and others who have made the choice not to get vaccinated with god knows what they're injecting into us.

There are people that cannot receive the vax for medical reasons and there are people who are immunocompromised that have been vaxxed but are still at risk if they get covid.  like my brother in law who had a kidney transplant.

I don't get the logic.

I'm double vaxxed and have had covid. All the data suggests that if you are double vaxxed you are much less likely to get severe symptoms, go to hospital or ICU. I had mild symptoms and that is more than likely due to the vax and also the Omni strain.

As far as I can determine the vax doesn't stop the spread. So it makes no difference to the person next to you if you are vaxxed or not. The responsibility is on the person themselves to get the vax done and they shouldn't worry about people around them.

The only reason I can see for mandates is to keep hospitalisation rates down and have as many beds available for those who need them.

small correction:   you can be well vaxxed and still transmiisable, but the viral load will likely be lower than someone unvaxxed. so, you may be transmissable but less so, if that makes sense

Which many wont be.

I've had enough of the spin.

I've had the virus and it's like a bad flu lasting 5-7 days.

Count yourself lucky that you only had flu like symptoms and unlike many did not require hospitalisation, a ventilator or struggle to recover with long Covid. Unlike others you did not die.

That is not spin.

The politicians definitely had their moments but without quick action by our governments many more would have died particularly from the Delta strain.

But don’t imply, Covid is nothing to worry about or there is no need to take precautions.

Your fine, well bully for you. Others have not been so lucky and family and friends have grieved.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
