And who's turned up fitter than they've ever been?

Geez, I hope that Petracca player and that number 13 work themselves into a bit of shape. They look like they could really be something.

Have a look at Tomlinson, he wants back in the side and a premiership medal, he looks like he’s in ripping form.

He is a beast!

i remember hearing Burgess last season or the one before that, saying that heat was our friend - the hotter the better.

Obviously you want the heat training to be controlled, but it has been proven in sports science that this type of training can be extremely beneficial to fitness and performance.

When I was at my fittest, I specifically chose the hottest part of the day to run, as it gave you a heap of benefits with minimal pounding of the joints, which you'd otherwise have to do to get the same amount of stress into the body.

Seemed to work for me, though it's obviously not always too pleasant.

Totally for this, he had a moment, under supervision, it's interesting to test yourself and am sure he doesn't regret it one little bit. He could also be a little extra fatigued from a young bub or even picked up a sniffle from the kid (although exercising with a cold should be a no no). I am so curious about their times, am always searching online as I'm sure some of them have smoking times, but no-one seems to publish.

I am old, 51, and 6 kg overweight, but do 5 1km reps averaging 4m (best 3.50 worst 4.20) in heat up to 38deg here in Sudan (HR ~182). Kills me, need about 4lt of water afterwards and a lie down. Also my intervals are more like 3m... My holy grail is 5km in 20m never got there, best was 4.96km in 19m40s when i did my hamstring, was so [censored].

Tipping Jake was going alot quicker, he'll be fine, personally i hope all the new kids were throwing up by the end of the session... getting to know you so to speak

Well well well look who’s dropped in for a chat. I hope you loved the premiership and had the scooter decked out in red and blue tassels.

I'm sure i saw him, wandering off into the change rooms.  It was from a distance though.

Yes.  You get a quick glimpse of him (sans moonboot) in the interview with JJ on the MFC website.

Umm... 'Train with' bloke with the beard is going to find it tough to make the list?

Well someone had to say it... Go easy on me!

Removing skinfold tests is really making it tough to see who is and isn't in shape......

By the look of those photos, Tomlinson might have stolen Jack's spot as the angry beast of the team. He wants back in.

Yep if otherwise fit and no vascular related concerns, then you just need to ensure you maintain electrolyte balances and are well hydrated.

Still it is something you work up to and perhaps Lever went too hard too early. But he will be better for it no doubt!

That is enviable. Im 41 and my best 5km was ~25 minutes. Didnt get to do much interval training as my back and knees finally caved... Now its just walking!

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
