Um what does Production mean? can't get the ball?

I assume so.  But defenders usually don't get a lot of it.

Understanding of our game plan and positioning should help in that regard.

Just hope he's not a skater.

How does Jed Hagen get into the review.??

Clever recruiting WA boys in covid times. Plenty of games and form to review

Watching his highlights i can't help but think he reminds me a lot of Corey Enright. He's not a line breaking half back like Hunt or Rivers, but when he has the footy he has so much composure and time that time just slows down around him.

Doing a bit more research on him i came across this article that states he started playing senior football at just 15 years of age and even kicked 4 goals on his debut. Seems like he had a pretty impressive under 16's year which resulted in being selected for All Australian.

Maybe looking ahead to the 2042 season and father / son selections.

Looks like he has long arms for his height, might be useful for spoiling.

Interesting that he was a quality midfielder in under 16's then kind of relegated to a half back flank role in his draft year.

Seems to have gears like good players do. Cruises when evaluating his options then can pull the trigger if needed.

Did he finish school in 2020 like most WA guys do a year earlier than here?

I just wonder if he's a bit cruisy. Bit of a Travis Johnstone vibe almost. I wonder if the professional and competitive environment of the MFC will fire him up a bit.

If a Rookie pick has the qualities of Travis Johnstone I'll be pretty  happy.

Is it just me or does it seem like Taylor and co end up picking up players who have good U16 seasons? It pinged in my mind reading about McVee that I feel like I’ve read this before when it comes to Dees draftees in the last 3-4 seasons. Might be coincidence I’m sure.

Not just that, plenty of development and momentum missed by the boys in VIC.

And less recent exposed form to make harsher judgments on. Plenty of kids get downgraded because repeated viewings expose flaws in their games. The VIC kids have the luxury of potentially hiding flaws that could see them slide.

Interesting opening this thread and seeing his draft weight was just 68kg and his current listed weight is still only 70kg for his 185cm.

Watching him play in the practice games and on saturday he looked like just a naturally lean body rather than the skinny implied by those numbers. Wouldn't think he was 15-20kg lighter than, say, Salem and Hibberd at the same height.

Giving this to the Demonland trackwatchers as a mission - what is McVee's current playing weight compared to his pre-preseason weight?

there's the lockdown defender we've been after

Nice call.

Judd has a nice ring to it, here come the Judd.!!!

I will go left field and say he reminds me of Josh Kelly....!

Round 1 was the first time i had seen him play. Outstanding debut considering what was at stake.
Just like Jake Bowey and Harrison Petty on debut, played with absolute skill. Attacked the ball with sure hands and was not overawed by his surrounds at all.
May he have a long successful career at Senior Level

? Petty's debut is widely regarded as one of the worst ever.

Not when he took over from Tomlinson. That was when I first laid eyes on him

Fair enough and don't want to distract from the point on Judd. Was indeed a good debut. Interested to see his lockdown capabilities. I can see him getting Charlie Cameron this week which is equal parts exciting and terrifying

Bring it on. Hopefully he relishes the opportunity, and does really well. He will have experience around him.

He is surprisingly quick and has very measured disposal, even after a sprint. Will be great to have off HB going forward.

Love this. Be brave with coaching and let young guys have a steep learning curve to get ready for finals intensity. If he does alright then that's a win, if he doesn't, well theres not any defender in the comp that can stop Cameron (except Hibbo) from kicking 5 goals when he's on.

Agree 100% re Bowey, but many here wrote Harry off forever after a “less than stellar” debut which I think was a couple of years before his great comeback games when Tommo went down.

I missed his “False Start”

Yep, Petty had a Barry Crocker on debut...

Come on BoBo he has played 177 games and kicked 5 or more 7 times

Yep he is very dangerous and a quality small forward but this might be a slight overreach (less than 4% of games)

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
