Had a magnificent season providing unending drive running up and down a wing with barely a stop all day and wearing out his opponents in the process. Unlucky to miss out on All Australian honours.

AKA The Energiser Bunny. 😁

The coolest guy on the team. Any longhair that doesn't have a manbun is alright with me. Also, I love how he plays football.

Often underrated in my view.

His ability to provide an outlet at the defensive end and/or another option up forward is like having an extra player on the ground.

A crucial factor in our success.

When people talk about great roleplayers, Positive Lingers is one of the first I think of. Doesn't really have superstar footy attributes but executes his role to perfection, will sprint up and down the outer wing for 120 minutes regardless of reward and will always provide an outlet for our defenders exiting D50. His aerobic capacity is basically unmatched - Whitfield is the only comparable one that comes to mind. He and Gus were a very important part of why our defensive structure looked so rock-solid this year - long live the Wingers Club!

Quite possibly my favourite player at the moment. His first 10 weeks or so were All-Australian quality. He went through a slight form slump in middle of the year but he thankfully returned to his best just before the finals series.

His goal in the last quarter of the Grand Final deserves more attention. His ability to run all the way from the backline to the forwardline and take a mark was unbelievable.

Lingers runs a half marathon in every game, and still has the capacity to sprint 'on demand' to support team mates, provide an outlet or gain meters for the team.  As stated by @Hopeful Dee above, his goal in the GF exemplified his outstanding work rate throughout 2021

Fantastic season, and a very important 'cog in the wheel'.

Love this bloke.

Incredibly fit and runs miles above his opponents, What a great score for the club he has been. Probably almost as fast as his look alike in Hunt. Has also scored his fair share of goals.  Dropped off a bit after his concussion but rallied late and was his damaging best come finals time. Seems to fly under the radar but I get the feeling it wouldn't bother him at all.

His ability to fnd space and to provide the running outlet from the 50m defensive line is remarkable.

A key contributor to our success particualrly for forward entries.

Can't say I recall too many defensive plays but that is not why he is in the team.

Langdon and Brayshaw helped re-define Melbourne's game, with hard running from defence to attack and back again, constantly throughout games. Opponents found them hard to keep up with and match, and they were a huge part of our success (and badly-needed outside run).

Here's to #positivewingers!

It seemed that the play was mostly on Brayshaws side of the ground in the 3rd quarter and he really got going in the last quarter helping with the 9 goals kicked to the non scoring end since at 3 quarter time James Brayshaw commented that of the 21 goals 17 were scored at the end the Bulldogs were kicking to so it might be an exciting finish.

Absolutely amazing fitness and running power. It was like he was subbed on in the last quarter the way he moved so freshly. He was making his opponents eat dust with his running.

Another Great pick up by the MFC, how good is it that quality players want to come to us, Ed hit the ground running and running and running his endurance is amazing. As mentioned above, that goal in the last was off the scale, he had a great year by any standard And has added that extra talent to the club that we were lacking. Positive Lingers says it all.💕❤️💙

Had a fantastic year, his ability to run the length of the field to help out at both ends is a real asset.

He's exactly the Isaac Smith clone we were looking for, except he's 25 and Smith is 32.

That Grand Final goal, as already highlighted, showcases just how great a runner he is.
What a bargain trade he's turned out to be from Freo!

I sometimes forget he was at the Dockers. It feels like he’s been with us from Day One of his career. Talk about fitting in to a team perfectly! Love Ed’s boundless energy and his irrepressible ebullience and that cheeky grin.

 😁❤️💙

Jayden Hunt says 👋 and can they be equal #1 coolest guys on the team? 😁

His running in the GF was amazing, would have to be one of the fittest men in the AFL. A Gun.

Thank you Dockers. Ed is an amazing talent. And boy, does he love his new club and teammates. He delights in kicking a goal or two and that happy grin of his is very uplifting. I am sure he is very popular with all the other Demons in the team. His running capacity with combined speed and endurance is unbelievable. Definite gun and should have been an All Australian. Owns the wing on a football ground.

Couldn’t seal the deal in 2018 because we had too many accumulaters and nobody outside. Now we have 2 of the best ready to attack or defend as needed.

His gut run goal was a thing of beauty. Anyone could be forgiven for jogging at that point in the game but he busted a gut and burnt off whoever was meant to be on him

I don't think anyone on demonland underrates Ed but plenty in the rest of the footy world don't get how significant he was as a pickup in 2019. We already had the defensive structure but the only hard 2 way runner we had was ANB, our game plan just couldn't work with out serious defensive running. With the 666 and the injury riddled preseason we couldn't get the zone setup fast enough and teams would just cut straight through putting the back 6 under unsustainable pressure.

Not only did he fill a desperate need, he has acted as a role model for what elite 2 way running looks like. Others in the team have now stepped up, Brayshaw is a great example. He has brought that 2 way running into his game and seriously built up his tank but also brings his own unique skillset to the role.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
