Haven't you heard?

We sang a song they like, and the Dogs are furious!

Can't see us beating them until we apologise.

Let's apologise by beating them by 75 points, then playing their song again.

Lets face it ..... Gawn dived.
And Daniel probably just called him out on it rather than the stand over tough guy act it's portrayed as.

It was the “moment” the game changed. That’s how it will be remembered.
i don’t think Gawn dived. It wasn’t grass he landed on. He did have a graze on his head.
i don’t think Caleb Daniel did anything really bad, but he will regret it for many years to come.

So we are a top 4 team now - the first few rounds will be slowly getting back into the groove of a long season. Wins are great, losses will happen, don’t read much into what we do in that month.

So stop talking about losing round 1 like it is so important. We have our sights a little higher than ‘early season momentum’ that’s the cute stuff that the Saints or Freo fans can coddle themselves with.

To me it was a non-event.
If anything a sign of Gawns desperation when the game looked like getting away.
Bumped his own head putting GF sized dollop of mayo on it.
Not his best moment famously pointed out to him by Trac.
Frittas 2 in a minute changed the game.
Just freed us right up.

Sheez, we'll only have 25 games left to play if we lose or win, that mightn't  be enough to make up for a loss that is fairly insignificant.

Just to take both us & the Dogs out of the equation for a minute.

Not a fan of Grand final rematches in Round 1. It's a waste. The reigning premier could play anyone & their fans would turn up in droves for the unfurling. You don't need big numbers of oppo fans - it's gonna be a huge crowd celebrating anyway.

Far better to have the rematch after 4 or 5 rounds. And if both teams happen to be undefeated leading into that clash, then you've really got a blockbuster event !

Agreed.

I'd have the GF teams from the year before play each other in round 17 (or 18 with the bye) and possibly round 23.

Imagine one year when the 2 GF teams from the previous year are undefeated coming into round 17. The biggest Home and Away game of all time would ensue.

We could play Beaconsfield reserves at home in round 1 and i would still turn up to see that beauiful flag raised.

Keep our return flogging of the Dogs for a later round.

Was a free kick, but Gawn definitely made more of it and caused his head to hit the turf. If Gawn keeps himself strong no way does he go to ground.

I actually think Daniel was within his rights to tell Max to get up.

EDIT: I also think that was the moment Max knew that it wasn’t going to be a night he plays a blinder, and took the back seat to Dogga. Game changing moment after that.

I don't know I kind of feel weird playing the dogs. It's like we will already give them extra motivation afterall they will want revenge obviously. Also I'm sorry but if the situation was the other way around and we lost, I would hate to sit there as a fan watching them raise the premiership flag. I couldn't stomach it and the dogs fans aren't that bad.

Yes much better to start the year by giving Collingwood a good old fashioned shellacking!

Sorry  Chook have you done any research on  Tound 17 and seen any un beaten games between the two previous GFinalists.

NO I bet and it's not ever happened I BET also so you figment if imagination is useless.

Having them meet for the second time in Round 23 is ok.

I can think of at least 8/10 teams  we could play and fill the stadium probably 17 in Round  1.

Small sample, but the GF replay at r17 for the last 5 years would have seen 6th v 11th, 1st v 12th, 3rd v 4th, 3rd v 10th, and 3rd v 12th.  So is pretty rare to even have a decent game by that round.

To be fair on Beaconsfield, they had their season cancelled, their best player (Hulk Harrahan) did her groin in round three, and in the rounds that were completed, the maggots killed 'em.

I’m loving the club right now but this feels wrong.  Most clubs that lose the GF rebound the next year to defeat their conquerors. It’s basic human motivation.

Dees should look to get round 1 versus a club like Crows.  Gets us away to a positive start.

We won't lose against the dogs weather it be rd1 , rd5 or the grand final .

If it ain't the dogs rd 1 , I would have us play Geelong Rd 1.  It would also be kind of funny if we play Geelong in Geelong Rd 23

Yes I suggested earlier in the thread that perhaps Dees v cats in RD1 2022 would be good at the G. Really smash those cats bastards and inflict more pain on arrogant Chris the tool Scott.

I wish people would get over their MFCSS. We are the best side in the competition.

1. Do they remember that we absolutely belted the Bulldogs in the GF?  They would be traumatised by the prospect of playing us at our home ground in front of rabid supporters, after what we did to them at a neutral venue.

2. Sponsors bring more money into the club than members.  Here is the opportunity to grab a prime time exposure for the sponsors in front of a huge crowd.  This sort of prospect make the club marketable. The AFL won't fixture us for this type of exposure if we are playing GC. You have to make hay while the sun shines.

3. Playing the Dogs is the opportunity for the players to show they are serious about giving their home fans the chance to see us playing in another GF at home.  Beat the Dogs again , and the rest of the competition takes a collective breath. Win this game and all those members who waver about stumping up their money for 2022 quickly head for their wallet.

Great post, I was actually thinking this as I read through the posts and face slapping the posts of people wanting us to play a easy beat or interstate teams Rd 1

We should also be hoping for double up games against the dogs, rich, ess, coll

We get the ANZAC eve and QB blockbusters so we can't complain if other clubs get one as well. I agree with you that this is generally a fizzer but we have had a couple of fizzers ourselves.

The one I get annoyed at is the ANZAC day game and how they treat it as bigger then the GF and the ANZAC medal bigger than the Norm Smith, how can it be when only two clubs can participate.  There have been games when both of these sides have been sub par and half a dozen other clubs would have beaten either

I can remember who won  norm smiths and who won premierships i could not for the life of me remember who won ANZAC medal and could not give a rats [censored]

Hang on a second didn't tracc win a ANZAC medal

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
