Great to see Tomlinson running around as well. He will really push the other defenders to get a game this season... nice to have.

Who's heading up the fitness department these days?

Might be worth a watch.

What's the rule in the bargaining agreement regarding mandatory post-season break? I thought it was a 7 week gap between end of season and the next pre-season. Does this mean those players who are training are *takes a deep breath* scabs?

More seriously, I hope the players who need the time off to repair their physical (and mental) damage are not feeling pressured to return too early.

I get the impression he gets banged up pretty good every game.. heard a few times that he struggles to walk the following day.

I’ve heard similar. Going back watching the videos for the season, it reminds me how much teams target him, totally unfairly, usually just behind the play and like Maxy, he gets minimal protection from the umpires.

I think that only applies to club initiated activity? If the players want to do their own thing that is entirely up to them.

I think this is player driven, without the clubs involvement so nothing to worry about with breaking the collective bargaining. Happens every year, but is only really newsworthy this year! It's also only the guys who came back to Melbourne to give them something to do, heaps of others stayed in WA or travelled beyond there.

Certainly there were many (myself included) who were disappointed that other than theGC game we didn’t really smash anyone during the H&A season, but I seem to remember hearing / reading somewhere that this was part of the grand plan, pacing ourselves and letting go come finals time.  The way the season panned out this could well be the case.

GF WB - 74 points . WB biggest loss for year

PF GEE - 83 points. Gee biggest loss for year

Semi - BRIS - 33 points. Bris biggest loss for year

Thus why there is no hint of Melbourne logos anywhere on their training gear

Maybe so it is not an official club training session, pretty sure they are not allowed under player agreements.

Impressive. Sends a great message through the whole list - the two best players in the GF are already putting in the extra work.

Bit of a head-scratcher in the tail end of that segment: De Goey appointing his fire-fighter brother-in-law as his manager?

De Goey is setting himself to play that 1 good year leading into a new contract cycle ...

The training away from the club thing is to do with the AFLPA contracts and the stipulation that they have a mandated time away from their employer.

So, contractually speaking, what you’re actually looking at in the video is ‘The Artist Formally Known as Petracca’.

Hopefully everything they are doing has the stamp of approval from our fitness team.  Still, I'd expect it would be hard to argue that makes it an official club workplace activity.

I am sure they are given certain programs to work with.

Got a photo today from a mate doing laps on his local oval . Also on the oval , max , gus , milkshake and others . Great to see the players focussing despite being away from the club

Sends a message through the whole comp IMO.

Whoever it is, he/they will be under intense and frequent scrutiny just to stay on par with what was achieved in the last few years. It would be unlikely that the Demon benchmarkers amongst the fittest players in the whole AFL system would forget what was required and how to get there, nor would our 'leaders' allow the rest of the team to slip from these standards of excellence that delivered a Premiership and immense team cohesion.

Driven blokes like T Mac and Viney have plenty of mates now.

good to see everyone is fit and doesn’t need time off legs.

I like the idea, maintain fitness rather than have to get it back. Train hard now and have a good break over Xmas

im expecting a more impressive H&A season next year. With some smashings

Next season will be bigger and better and the players are gearing up for the intense stuff to come well prior to that season. As for the season itself, the Mighty Dees will unleash hell; there will be blood-letting for all opponents, there will be opponents forced to look wantonly heavenward for inspiration and counter-attack, there will be less direct interference across Demon games from umpire sympathies for those who dare to challenge our talents. Watch out, AFL, a new chapter is coming.

The Club is evidently publicly happy with it, given the 'Training Gallery' on the website (though you could be forgiven for thinking only Fritsch and Smith had 'permission'...)

Yes, I was there too. Gawn, Brayshaw, Melksham, Dunstan and Mitch Brown all doing a private training session.

Was awesome to see how seriously they were taking it and how they have taken Dunstan under their wings.

They seem to be intent on going back to back.

Brought my son down and they were all very obliging, signing posters and jumpers and taking photos, even though they seemed pretty exhausted.

Darren Burgess legacy on this club has been enormous despite only being around a short time. he's legitimately unlocked the list. shown them the level that the very best players train at and now Selwyn will keep them there, if we have a dynasty over the next 5-8 years and win multiple flags, Burgo will have been a significant key in that.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line
Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
