i can't be the only one who is quite peeved that we've re-signed Chandler who had offers on likely a heavier contract that we initialy would've put to him pre Crom interest and Bedford only to hear Bobby who has bucketloads more upside and also proven afl form/ability is on the market for you'd expect about a 3rd round pick and a similar contract. who ever lands him is getting a bargain, it's a shame it wont be us

3rd round? Giants would want something decent. Has shown flashes.

Bobby Hill looks a player to me and fits our needs. I would be keen but he’s probably worth a late first round or second round pick.

You mean like pick 17 or something like that?

late second/early third rounder at most..

if we'd got rid of chandler, i'd be keen as, but hopeful kade will take the next step and get some games in 2022. everyone at the club seems to love him, still yet to see what they rate about him, but happy to be surprised next season. hope hill doesn't go to essendon. :-/

IMO Hill is worth a mid 2nd rounder and a contract amount that would be Chandler and Bedford's combined. And then some.

As good as they've been this year, there's considerable improvement still to be seen from Kozzie, Spargo and even ANB. Bailey Laurie could also start his journey across half forward in 2022

Unless Bobby is considered an outside mid, I don't think we will pursue it.

We have enough small forwards already, pass.

I certainly not peeved with our resignings. Chandler is super quick and has good skills, plenty of upside

and why would Bobby be on a similar contract to a virtually untried kid?

So, your logic is Hill is worth a 3rd round pick and the same money as Chandler, but he's also a far better player?

I think you've managed to 'peeve' yourself off with some flawed logic and a lot of assumptions mate.

From what I have heard Chandler leaves no stone unturned and is the perfect fit for our premiership culture.

He will be banging down the door next year.

bobby hill has shown a lot of promise in his first 30 games, but i can completely understand why we would prefer someone like kade chandler who we've had in our system for the last several years and is a 'next best fit' selection over a prospective pick-up from another club

He went at #24 and I would think he’s worth about the same but it depends on the depth of the draft pool. Could be worth #15-30.

Was a fan of him in his draft year but haven't really paid attention to his career much.

The tightness for our list spots suggest we probably don't have the room to fit him in.

We have Spargo, Laurie, Chandler competing for one spot.

Hill has shown flashes of brilliance but another small probably not on our list of needs.

The Crows interest probably got Chandler a 2nd year but I’m not convinced it turned him from a 200k player to a 400k player. If they wanted him that much he would’ve left.

Bobby Hill is a big talent, I don’t think the Giants give him up for anything less than pick 30. Ideally more like pick 20. They traded up to get him.

And he’s contracted with 3+ clubs wanting him so he’s not signing for peanuts either.

Could we combine our 2nd (37) and 3rd or 4th picks to get Bobby and convince him to sign a deal less than what he would at other clubs - maybe, probably not.

Would I put pick 17 on the table or split it down the order for him - no.

we do now with the resignings but i'm taking Hill > Chandler and Bedford any day,  has shown he's capable the dury well and truly out on our two lads, can see chandler's career following along similarly to bakers is, always just there in case but Hill i can see actually improving our 22

Bobby Hill wouldn't be on more than 300 a season i wouldn'tve thought Bedford + Chandler off the books Bobby in and there's your contract right there

I think it’s worth noting that GWS have said they don’t want to trade Bobby Hill and he’s contracted so we or any interested parties have to pay overs to get him.

In terms of his salary and our cap who knows? I doubt Chandler’s salary would have much impact on our ability to get him, Bobby would be comfortably better paid than him already and while our cap will be tight in the future I’m not sure we’re too tight right now. If we want him I think we could offer a reasonable salary, not what he could get at non-premiership club, but it would come down to whether he’s willing to take less money to be at a contender.

Then there’s his role, our small forwards number 1 job is pressure, Kozzie, ANB and Spargo all offer more than Hill in this area, he's super talented, quick and if he was interested in a move to a wing then I think he’d be a good fit, but he’d still be fighting for a spot.

All in all to come to us he’d have to be willing to fight for a spot in a different role for less money. If he’s willing to do that and we rate him then we’ll be able to get him. I think it’s far more likely that he wants to go to a team where he’s a walk up start, on more money and that can afford to pay overs for him trade wise, like North.

Isn’t it great having a trade week where none of the available players are better than what we’ve already got.

Hell no!!! We’d never even THINK about that.. and it’s WAY overs.. pick between 25-45 is what he’ll command due to circumstances! Signing chandler and Bedford as role players is SMART! How does no one still yet understand it’s about STARS and role players to best use salary cap.. too many GOOD players on decent coin is what creates lists like Pies, Hawks Suns etc.. so it’s not as simple as saying “Hill<Bedford” unless Hill would accept Bedford type money

Pick 17 on a player who has been in the system already and has shown he could make it vs who knows what from the draft… to me you’d think a lot harder than just “nnnoooo” if you were in the footy club.

I'd be interested.. Have been for three years or so.

Reckon the kid is going to be a star. And not just a small forward. Has potential to play wing or maybe even half back.

I have seen very little from this under-sized small forward to get excited about. Please, I wouldn't give up a second round pick for him. He's just not that good.

Hill might be on more than 300 after 4 clubs compete for him. The draft pick we’ll use instead if we didn’t pick up Chandler was going to cost 100k, not like Chandler has made a huge difference. There’s a spot on the list and money to get Hill if we really wanted to.

Im just not convinced one way or another we’d get in a bidding war for Hill. It’s taking money and draft resources from bigger needs. Money to sign our own players. Picks for mids, tall forwards, medium forwards. A developmental full back and ruck.

Surprise late delistings are much more of a watch for me. Won’t be any great players but could be slightly better options with no added cost. Have to believe our list management team have checked out every out of contract player in the league and not being impressed by any of them apart from Dunstan

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
