How about you go back and read my original post where I said that "WC won't trade pick 2 for Jackson" ie MFC won't receive pick 2 which is the important point.

I did not say WC won't do a trade involving pick 2 so they can get suitable picks to trade for Jackson which is an entirely different thing.

I really think WC are just posturing.

I think they know LJ is Freo bound and just want to be able to say to their members we tried, but we weren't going to mortgage the place for him.

We clearly won't get 2 if he goes to Freo and then we won't get Cadman most likely either. Maybe we don't even rate Cadman that highly.

I wonder if JT has a couple of boys in mind he thinks he can get, with 2 slightly lower picks and maybe them and a 2nd rounder, or a player from the Dockers, is enough for us. We could then say we got 3 players for LJ.

Our first pick in the late 30's can then be used for Grundy and I wouldn't give any better.

Yep I’m all for Sheezel too. Anyone know if he kicks straight??

Not sure about his accuracy but he's kicked 26 goals in 10 games and had some statistically "off the chart" games in the midfield.

Back on topic though...

He won't be going to WCE so forget that. They haven't even had a convo with him so aren't interested. Its Freo, but what can we get from them. I'd say it has to be one first rounder and a very good player? They haven't got anything else.

Yeah I can see this being an option but I think we would also need to get one of their early second rounders from this year. They will have 3 when Rioli leaves

Would be happy with that

That second rounder being used on grundy

The other thing by west coast splitting pick this year and doing a pick swap next year they are still not losing any picks just moving down a few spots, and who’s to say their picks don’t end up better players.

I think people overate high picks in afl it’s not like nba where mostly the top three picks are superstar quality.

look at Dangerfield pick 10

Fyfe pick 20

selwood pick 7

Toby Greene pick 11

Patty Cripps pick 13

I think both Freo and West coast can get the deal done without too much trouble.
Freo will be looking for pick 28 of the dogs as a min for Lobb. Perhaps also a first round pick swap of 13&10.
They also have another 3-4 players they are going to trade giving them picks to go after Brisbanes pick this year. So that would give them The dogs pick 10, Lions pick 15 and their future first. We would def be sending some picks back to them but they can get it done.

Think Freo can get a deal done easy enough

5 & 7 feels overs for pick 2 but IF they were able to swindle that the deal with Melbourne feels about right…

Gold Coast have a heap of picks this year, and very few list spots. In fact I'd love to involve them in a 3 team trade, something like:

Melb Give: Jackson, pick 41 '2023 1st, pick 2023 3rd         Get: Pick 7, 2023WC 1st and Flanders (suns)

WC Give: pick 2, 2023 1st, 2023 2nd       Get: pick 5, 2023 Dees 2nd, J Sharp

Gold Coast Give: Picks 5 & 7, Flanders & Sharp      Get: pick 2, 41, 2023 WC 2nd, 2023 Dees 3rd

Gold Coast already have additional 2nd round (2) and 3rd round (1) picks this year, but I'd say they'll bundle them up to Brissy for their first round pick (currently pick 15) and their 2nd. Brissy with the compo from McStay should have close to enough for their 2 father sons.

West Coast would be mad to split their pick and give up next years. You need premium high quality talent in a rebuild, that means keeping the highest picks.

I don’t think they’re actually keen on Jackson at all. I think they’re just playing the game to make sure Freo cough up a fair price.

I'd count pick 5 and Jackson as pretty high end talent? Plus they still get a first round pick next year - it'll just be ours rather than theirs. Depends on how highly they rate their list and think this year was just a one off.

I agree that he's most likely to go to Freo, and it's handy that WC are involved, even if it is just to force Freo to cough up a high price.

Oscar Allen’s the only good young player on their list. Pick 5 is great, but pick 2 is even better. Trading back makes sense a lot of the time but not at the pointy end of the draft

I’m still a huge Jacko fan but I think he’s a luxury a really bad side can’t afford. He’s great for Melbourne and for Freo who have building blocks in place. If I’m the eagles I’m going midfielder, gun forward or backline general rather than a ruck/utility.

I'm not a huge draft follower first hand but reading what some observers (Twomey and from BF) there seems to be a clear pick 1 then the next 5 or 6 could go anywhere between picks 2 - 8 and then the rest is pretty even to around 30. So I'm not sure that this year it's easy to say pick 2 will be significantly better than 5, and can see that West Coast would see him as a direct replacement for Nic Nat, so would be hugely valuable for them. I still think Freo will get it done, but could see that West Coast would really be interested as well.

No, have a look at what the dogs lose/get, they lose Dunkely, and picks 11 & 29 and only get picks 14 and Lobb back. They can probably get Lobb on his own for pick 29 and might do a 14 to 11 downgrade, but in your scenario they'd be giving Dunkley up for nothing. Plus I doubt a 4 team trade would get anywhere near a starting point.

Ah your right maybe the Dogs get Freo's future 1st or something ? but yes 4 team trade would be complicated. Just trying to find a way we can get two reasonably high picks off Freo in a trade for Jackson.

Someone from West Coast publicly stated that their interested so I'm not sure what you're on about.

Also, you do know that the trade period goes for a week and that clubs have the ability to trade picks, and Freo are about to lose a host of players to opposition clubs, for picks?  i.e. What they have right now means absolutely diddly-squat.

Do you not think that when the Jackson home rumour started, West Coast wouldn't have been on the front foot, or at least talking to him the whole time?

They said they were interested yesterday and haven't even spoken to him. He ends up at Fremantle, nothing surer.

Those players from Fremantle aren't going to net a whole lot. Maybe some pick swaps and upgrades, but I don't think we will get what we want re Jackson. The two top 10 picks are a pipe dream.

I can't see us letting Jackson go for less than a top 3 or two mid first round picks. If Freo don't have the picks and aren't prepared to trade players we can always offer Jackson a 1 - 2 year deal and commit to work out a fair trade the following year.

West Coast split 2 with GC for 5 and 7 and offer us 5 and 20 for Jackson. Freo's 2 1sts beyond 10 don't compete.

IF WCE made a far better offer then we do have to look after our own interests first, and he would still be over there near his mum.

Absolutely Mono, we have asked for two top 10's, which is fair compensation. I guess we will work the anchors to achieve that. Whether they have the capital to deliver, is a different matter.

That might be true, but blind freddie can see it's in WCEs interest to play ball and push the price up that Freo will pay

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
