1964_2 2,357 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 It’s never as bad as media/supporters think during the bad times, and vice versa. Same theory will apply for tommorow’s game re the reaction to a win or loss. 4 Quote

If we lose, I get to ponder whether Goodwin is the right guy again. It's THAT dichotomous for those that truly truly love and support the club compared to those that are merely 'fans'. Not helped of course by the loss of Mr. Big mouth bully. lJ is a keep if possible but if he wants to go then extract the maximum. Edited June 12, 2022 by old dee 1 1 Quote
JimmyGadson 3,455 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 I've said it before and I'll say it again. We will be fine without Luke given the compensation we'd receive and there's an argument to suggest we'd be better off long-term. 7 1 2 Quote

Backed in to play ruck in the most critical time of the game, ahead of a multi year All Australian ruckman. Fast forward to the next year, and one small mid year form slump, and suddenly you are not valuable anymore. very very strange thinking. This ⬆️ Just in case anyone missed it. Quote
Swooper1987 3,322 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 You are as good as your last game in this caper. Jackson has been poor for much of the season. He was good last year, and played a great 15 minutes in last years GF. I hope that's not the only thing he's remembered for. I expect he'll come good soon. We need him to stand up as a forward. 1 Quote

He was so good the 5x All Australian , Premiership Captain was the 2nd best ruck in the game. It was like playing with four power mids in there in the last 10 mins of the 3rd. And this too ⬆️ Quote

This comment doesn’t make sense. ”he was good last year” considering he has been better this year than last year, that also means he has been good this year 3 Quote

Goal 2 - Oliver centre clearance from a sloppy bit of play from Stef Martin. Fritta on the end of it for a goal. Goal 3 - Trac clearance from a marginal hitout win from Jackson, for a BBB mark and goal. Trac gets all the credit for his blazing clerance. At this point BT asks Daisy "What's gotten MFC back in the game"' Pearce: They've rediscovered their dare, they're prepared to take the game on in the middle. Viney crashing packs etc. Pearce makes no mention of Jackson's influence to get us on level pecking. Goal 4 - Bowey's nice pass to Brayshaw from an inspirational tackle by Kozzie on Weightman. Angus nails a legendry set shot to put us in front. At the 3:35 mins left mark, Jackson gives away a free after a centre bounce to potentially halt our momentum. Goal 5 - BBB's long kick inside 50. Trac picks up an unmarked ball near the boundary for a goal. Goal 6 - English wins hitout. Viney wins contested possession, handballs to Trac, to Olicer to Sparrow for a long goal. Goal 7 - Jacksons lovely clearance to Oliver for a another long goal. Outstanding play by LJ. My contention is that Jackson's influence in the third quarter is a little overblown and we had many other players who did just as much as him to get us back into the game. And that his 2022 season has been underwhelming as evidenced by being named on the extended bench last Thursday which I'm reading it as a wake up call for him. Poor me I have watched that second half so many times now that I cannot believe what you have written Luke was the critical fourth mid fielder that helped break that game open and help break the Dogs hearts. Either that or we are all delusional.!!! 3 2 Quote

leucopogon 1,519 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Have noticed him going to ground a lot in the centre ruck contest. Wonder if oppo coaches have identified this as a tactic to nullify his influence. Take him off his feet and he's no longer a fourth midfielder. 1 1 Quote

Interestingly enough, there was also calls on demonland around this time last year for him to be dropped after a quiet month or so. Not many 20 year old ruckman, that have got to this level at this same age. 6 Quote

whatwhat say what 23,890 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 easy enough to argue that in 2022 his impact has increased; his influence has decreased he's still going to command a pretty penny when he signs a new contract Quote
Demonstone 23,644 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 So many posters in this thread remind me of the teenager who hears rumours that his girlfriend is going to dump him so starts telling his mates that he doesn't think she's much chop anyway. 6 9 Quote

That could all turn tomorrow. We need him to compete like a big man. Quote

Lucifers Hero 40,753 Posted June 12, 2022 Author Posted June 12, 2022 His 2022 form doesn't matter one iota when it comes to his contract. Its about standards, behaviours, character, teamwork, role etc. The AFL world has seen enough to know he is a star who will have occasional form lapses just like every other player in the game. 5 Quote

A lot will argue based on thay 5 minute patchwork off the Grand Final which realistically as @Bring-Back-Powell pointed out other then a follow up work, most of the work was done by Oliver, Petracca and Viney. I've been waiting for him to stamp his influence around the ground this year but he hasn't. His first instinct is always to handball when when he's got space in front of him to take the game on and get the ball forward. Is this coaching or him just not confident enough still. I still put this down to Covid with his form, but right now other then the Gold Coast game he's had zero influence this year. Edited June 12, 2022 by dazzledavey36 5 Quote

Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 I reckon teams are just taking LJ a bit more seriously these days and putting in more effort into stopping him. No clue if he will stay or go, but we will be fine either way. I'm sure the club has plans in place for either situation. 4 Quote
