Maybe Naish from Richmond. Good outside runner. We don’t need more forwards, defenders, rucks or midfielders ATM.

Not interested in bringing any of those players in.

The one that would appeal the most would be Conca in as a VFL player at Casey and assistant coach. Similar to what it sounds like North are going to do with Tom Lynch. Don't bring them in as a player, but as a coach who can play in your VFL team and help develop the kids.

naish interests me only if we move on baker as he seems to be able to find the ball more regularly during a match and baker hasn't established himself in 5 years so i think it's time to give someone else a go, i also would have a conversation with james cousins, if no one else will talk to him he could be worth a rookie spot, a solid and younger inside mid to play at casey and if everything goes to sh**t in the seniors hes a mature body to step in + i think he could thrive in a successful side definitely knows how to find the footy even if he has his limitations

Nothing really for Dees to get as yet with delisted free agents. Unlikely we will go looking here. List places are tight.  James Cousins would perhaps be the only player of interest here.  But we have Jordon waiting in the wings as a similar player.

He has given the MFC some very good games but injuries have limited his games to 51 over a period of 7 seasons with the club he was a good player in the first 2 seasons playing 28 games in the next 5 season he played 20 games and 3 sub games, 2 seasons he had no games so lost development on his disposal were lost.

He has gone past his use by date at the MFC unable to impact the game in any meaningful way so with competition from younger mids like Jordan and Sparrow his playing future at the MFC was bleak.

Vanders was good for us when we needed ‘tough’, but the game we play requires different skills.  Can’t see him breaking back in to the 22 unless we need to bat really deep with injuries.  Good luck elsewhere, might help a young list to get tougher.

Vanders is one tough unit, and gave us some decent moments over the years, but I reckon he's one of the most overrated players here on DL. Don't think he'll find a new home but wish him all the best.

Or might help lower the average age at Geelong.

I actually don't see him being chosen by Geeong but assuming he's properly fit, I would have thought he could be good for Gold Coast to give the younger talent some protection.

surely by now gold coast have moved past recruiting hacks and trash from around the comp and are ready to start recruiting players who genuinely improve the 22 they put out each week instead

Always a good way to get a freebie like we did with Dunstan. Can never have too much depth!

Collingwood have delisted Brayden Sier, who I thought looked a decent young inside midfielder. Struggled to get game time in the guts due to Pendles, Degoey, Adams, Sidebottom etc.

Geelong have delisted Charlie Constable also. Not the worst prospect out there.

Not saying we should take them, but what are peoples thoughts? Do the rules permit us to rookie delisted free agents?

Posted

I think with all our recent re-signing, we're struggling for lift spots in the draft, let alone delisted free agents..

Posted

the only ones who have really stood out to me are the two who delisted themselves/retired jarrod cameron and irving mosquito, think that it's a spot on the list where we are weakest/easiest to break into and these boys clearly have talent just it seems not the desire which is a real shame, i wonder if a darwin franchise would help keep these boys in the league longer while also maintaining connections with their roots and be closer to family (i know they aren't from darwin but its a lot closer than melbourne or perth is)

Posted

Brayden Sier from Collingwood might be a possible option. However, even his highlights package is pretty mundane to be brutally honest.

I am still keen on Patrick Naish from Richmond as an option on the wing though.

Dees have certainly moved on from the days where we would try to turn rocks into diamonds.   Happy days.

Still not hearing anything or interest in Vanders.  He’s a quality bloke who has suffered from injuries.  Pace was never his go but he looked really slow in the games this year.  His physical work is excellent but clubs seem to be reasonably stocked for similar types and he’d be a risk. He will be 30 at the start of next year and list spots are tight.  Footy is a cruel beast. Hope he finds a home even in the next level down and remains a Demons man.  Aaron “van den Berg”. The Dutch meaning Man from the Mountain.

We are a chance to draft Jacob Van Rooyen, which means "Clearing in a Forest" in Dutch.

I wonder if he has relatives named Glen or Dale.

There's a few names in the DFA list that might interest other clubs.

If I was Carlton I'd be all over Jack Lonie. He'd be there best small forward by a street. And Collingwood could do worse than Charlie Constable for some midfield depth.

Otherwise nothing to see here for the Dees.

Vanders was flagged as delisted. Could be useful for another club like Gold Coast but won’t be back at the Dees as not enough spots left and rule is we need to draft 3 players come draft time.

I’m feeling ill.  I actually agree with Damien Barrett.  The dirty muck raking tool.

The rookie list. Really !!! Clubs delisting players and reselecting them as rookies. There is too many that are older players being given rookie lifelines on lower $ contracts.  Mitch Brown as a rookie. Shane Mumford last year !!! Rookie list should be restricted to players 23 or under at the start of the footy season calendar year.

ie. For 2022 season, players who were born in 1998 or later.

I still think Brander is ok and would be handy for us.

Totally agree, but with the lists being smaller the club use it to keep known talent, tick Eddie betts was on a rookie contract, bit of a joke.  Is should be for new/young player given a chance to develop.  I can see the AFL making some changes on this, maybe putting a games played/time served limit on rookies.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
