Really great year for the women this year and last.

I know over the last six games they have been nothing but a pleasure to watch and barrack for, and you cannot help but ride every bump and celebrate every goal with such enthusiasm.

๐Ÿ˜‚ was typing when one of my chooks jumped from outta nowhere onto my lap, spilling coffee over the two of us. I didnโ€™t realise Iโ€™d pressed submit.

The chook in question is Goldie, maybe she wanted to remind me to mention what a great player she is. ๐Ÿ˜‚

She wonโ€™t do that again in a hurry since being bathed is not on the top of her things I like list.ย

Anyways, as I was saying, the players areโ€ฆ

BLOODY AWESOME!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜

I know everyone hearts in the right place butโ€ฆ

AFLW coaching and admin is a career in-and-of-itself; no one needs to โ€˜progressโ€™ to a menโ€™s program if they donโ€™t want that shift.ย

AFLM is where Daisy is at the moment - unless she wants to shift back to AFLW there is no need for her to use that as a โ€˜stepping stoneโ€™ to progression in the menโ€™s game.

More good news for the club.ย

Any journos perusing Demonland for a good news story, please note, winning theย McClelland trophy for best men's and women's football program can be added to an impressive list of positives from the last 3 years, a period where we:

  • have won three flagsย
  • are even money favorite to win our fourth flag in a few weeks
  • finished top 4 in the men's and women comp every season
  • made finals in every VFLย season
  • (In spite of this success) go into the upcoming draft with a brilliant draft hand for any team, let alone a top 4 teamย
  • have a united boardย
  • a CEO (who had his critics when he came to the dees) doing a top jobย
  • have stabilized financially
  • thankfully no longer have to rely on income fromย pokiesย
  • got to 70k plus members (an all time record)
  • continued to strengthen the women's program
  • have been able to keep the women's team together (very much unlike other top teams)
  • are on the way to creating the best, most successful program in AFLW history
  • did a thorough review of our 2022 season and made changes as a result
  • resigned our men's and women's coachย
  • made a series of long term, contract extensions to key players
  • resigned Koz, a terrific message that our club is considered culturally safe by Aboriginal players (reinforced by McAdam nominating the dees)ย
  • been leaders in the Aboriginal cultural space - for example the Indigenous jumpers and Narrm initiative that other clubs are now getting on board with (eg renaming their team for Indigenous round) ย
  • not unrelated to the above two points, bedded down our Innovate Reconciliation Action Planย
  • managed the departure of Jackson in a way that has given usย a great draft hand
  • managed the ย transition of Burgess to Griffith super well
  • managed the situation with Jonsey not getting a game in the GF super well
  • resigned Melk when we we could have easily said see ya
  • have done a great job connecting with past players and bringing them back into the foldย
  • had an assistant coach win one of the most coveted jobs in footy - theย senior coach of the tigers

Yes, like every other club we have had our share of isolated incidents but by any measure that is a super impressive list of achievements, albeit missing one key thing - a home base.ย

We are in better shape nowย then at any other point in the 45 plus years i have ardently followed the mighty dees.ย

The average AFL player gets paid over $400K.ย

The average AFLW player gets paid $46K.

If we won the McLelland Trophy, the $500K player allocation, shared between our 75 men and women players would equate to $6.66K each. This equates to a 14% salary bonus for the ladies, and less than a 2% bonus for the men (hardly chump change for the majority).

It would therefore be a very nice gesture from the men (except perhaps for the rookies etc) if they donated their share to the ladies. This would equate to about $16k bonus for each lady, which would be significant not only in value but also in terms of how the Club values the ladies and their performance this year.

Agree would be a significant gesture and recognition of a great team the women have who could go back-to-back. A nice little bonus.ย

You donโ€™t have to be Einstein to work out there are indeed culture issues off field. Which is why they are rightly or wrongly questioning it.

Where is the club at with our home base?ย
Training base at Casey. Occasionally train at Goschs. Offices in AAMI. Demon Shop at the G. How much work is being done here? And how much progress.ย

win this and we have home finals guaranteed.

North are the epitome of a nearly team. can't beat Lions Crows or us.

they badly need a quality KPF to capitalise on their good work. Shierlaw not good enough. All the other pieces are in place. We were the nearly team a couple of years. Brought in Tayla and it made all the difference.ย

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
