Friday night here we come.....

A source told The Age that Channel Seven gifted some of their sponsors, who didn’t originally plan to run advertisements during the telecast of the big game, some free plugs.

The reason for that act of generosity was partly due to there being so many ad breaks because of the glut of goals that were kicked in the second half.

In essence, Melbourne kicked too many goals for the host broadcaster to keep up with, leaving them with extra ad spots to fill.

Begs the question of if they had filled their sponsors quota then why not just stay live and show more replays/chat between the goals? I’m sure people would’ve been very happy to do without the extra adverts.

Ha ha.

I didn’t care one bit about the commercials because I didn’t even notice them, as I was too busy jumping up and down and screaming my lungs out with enjoyment. 🏆

Yep. There would be A Grade spots. B Grade Spots and C grade spots.

even the cheapest got a good run on Saturday night

Its how it's kept free. I am fine with it.

As a customer, who doesn't love getting a little more bang for their buck?

When your bladder isn’t as strong as it used to be, and your drinking, those ad breaks give you just enough time to get to the toilet and back!

As a viewer, the idea that they ended up just chucking in a few ads for free makes me cranky. Shows who the broadcaster's priority is - but I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

It wouldn’t bother me if we weren’t subjected to 7:50 stars every Friday, 3:20 on Sunday, endless debate about moving the grand final later and so on.

That's a mighty quick dash if you made it there and back in 30 odd seconds.

The constant adds were another reason why I was snaky not being able to attend the game live. Some of us pay a fair whack of money for Fox Footy, Foxtel, Kayo etc. Disappointing that we were forced to tune into channel 7's coverage.

And to grab another celebratory beer on the alternate breaks.  I wasn't quite going at a beer a goal at that stage, but the amber liquid was certainly flowing.

Your TV doesn't come with volume control?

perhaps DNIMD wants to hear crowd noises and umpires, but not BT.  Hmmmm, heaven.

BTW @Diamond_Jim this notion that we kicked to many goals pffffft.

I mean, great click bate thread title, but how could you be thinking such a thing.

Absolutely loved smashing the Dogs right off the park in that quarter and a half.

The goal just after the siren from T Mac that made it our greatest winning margin in a GF was the icing on the cake, although it did almost make me feel sorry for the Bulldogs players that had to stand the mark and the goals until he'd taken his kick and rub even further salt into the wounds once it went through post high, straight through the middle.

The best thing for Footy would be a no commentary option on Kayo. They can do it easily

is this true? I've not come across it on Kayo...

are we likely to get a big fine from the afl for kicking too many goals?

so assuming they do the dynamic 6 week fixture again at least for the the first six weeks how many Friday night games do we get next year in the first six weeks.

My guess is two.

If we were Richmond or Collingwood it would be four.

An early MCG home match against Essendon could be an enormous money spinner

We're the twilight specialists now, so Saturday twilight probably seems more our slot.

The AFL probably also likes Friday night games to be a close contest and not end up in blowouts, so going off our recent games against the Cats and Dogs, I'm not sure they'd have any confidence that we could provide that for them on a Friday night either!!

One thing I noticed while listening to a replay of the radio call, is the sound of the crowd after a goal is so good to keep you pumped. It's such a buzz-kill to go from seeing a cracking goal straight to an ad break. Its just not the same to have the commentators talk about it after the break.

I usually watch every game on Kayo on the PC so I don't see the ads, but for the GF I wanted to watch it in the best quality I could on the Living Room TV (it's just too old to have the Kayo app onboard).

Kayo didn't broadcast the game live, so you didn't loose out there, but agree with what you are saying.  Best buzz would have been at the ground, but maybe next year for that 😥.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
