Just realised Spargo only had 58% time on ground.

Wonder how bad the ankle really was.

Goodwin clearly prioritises players who have the best grasp of our system. Where to be, run to, which space to take up, players to keep an eye on. Synergy with the rest of the line. Even if they are carrying something.

It only takes an ill timed defensive lapse up forward, for a dangerous rebound and potential end to end goal that catches you out. Didn't see much of that from the Dogs. All our players are on the same page.

We have to remember to thank Cam Guthrie for kicking it out on the full in Rd 23, and then that Close kid for the 50.

Gawn, Trac and Oliver took it from there.

To Cam!

First quarter I just thought we looked on and instantly settled my nerves which in turn made me angry for letting myself get my hopes up. I’m a lunatic.

The UNIVERSAL Melbourne supporter emotional experience!

Is anyone else sick of the narrative that dogs were "1 goal away from breaking Melbourne"  ?  I am.  Some nerves, yes, but Melbourne has shown several times throughouit 2021 that they can respond from further down than 4 goals.  We are premiers and it shouldnt worry me I know but logic says 4 goals down halfway through the 3rd would by no means "break"  this side.

I agree with the “1 goal away from breaking us theory”.    Sure, we can claw back a 25 point deficit. But, decent chance dogs would have got a significant momentum injection if they kicked it rather than us.

I was worried but look back at the resolve when we played Geelong and 10 minutes in the 3rd we were 44 points in arrears and still managed to win the game this game had the same feel when the Bulldogs scored 6 goals in the 2nd and 2 goals in the 3rd before the MFC beast decided enough is enough and ran them ragged.

Remember when we peaked too early?

Remember when we were May champions?

Remember when we hadn't played anyone yet?

Remember when we finished top and won the bloody flag???!!!!!

Remember when we only beat teams that had their star players out (Cameron, Dangerfield, Dunkley, McCrae)?

Remember when we had a dysfunctional forward line?

Remember when we "won't beat XXX next week on their own deck playing like that?

Remember September 25, 2021.

Beware the Instagram celebration....

https://www.theage.com.au/national/western-australia/melbourne-demon-fans-arrested-in-regional-wa-after-sneaking-into-state-to-attend-grand-final-20210928-p58vhe.html

Melbourne bar and restaurant owner Hayden Burbank and financial planner Mark Babbage have been arrested after allegedly entering Western Australia by falsely claiming to be Darwin residents and attending the AFL grand final.

The pair were taken into custody in WA’s south west region on Tuesday morning after police made a public plea to find them on Monday night.

A photo on the AFL’s Instagram account shows Mr Burbank, who owns Chapel Street venue Morris Jones, inside the Demons locker rooms celebrating and drinking with players after the club’s 57-year drought-breaking win at Optus Stadium on Saturday.

And this is how Covid spreads, and what puts jobs at risk.  People who think the laws don’t apply to them. Whilst it appears they weren’t positive they have put themselves before everyone else.

If either of you two Burbank and Babbage are Deelanders, seriously have a good look at yourselves.

Does anyone have any intel regarding the movements of the players tonight? I was hoping they’d be back out on the turps, I have tomorrow off work and was hoping to meet up with them and conduct some interviews.

Did you manage to catch up with them Ethan? I got along to the function at the Cott on Sunday. Fair to say they were in good form

I'm finally on! I kept struggling to login over the last month, but have now finally rememerbed my password!

What an amazing feeling it was to witness the greatest 50 minutes of football, not only of Demons history but potentially the greatest 50 minutes ever played by a side.

It still feels a little surreal, but I am just so happy to have witnessed a premiership, even though I was stuck in my house!

Ordered my first bit of memorabilia today..... my bank account will be in strife over the next month or two.

When we were in control our midfield dominance was unstoppable.

Which was fortunate as they were not able to exploit the May situation.  He was out of the contest if the ball hit the ground.

English also beat Petty when he got a run at it, but he couldn't capitalise.

They were just starved of supply when we dominated, and when the ball did come into their arc it did so on our terms.

I filmed myself for the whole game, but that ain't seeing the light of day!

This one goes alright though. Caden MacDonald, professional footy nuffy but still pretty raw in his reactions:

Sensational.  Loved it.  Hilarious.

There is a lot of upside in this win

Three of our biggest weapons all had quiet games

May & Lever as a duo had one of their quietest games for the season (at least marking wise)

Kozzie only a handful of touches & no goals

Really?

The inaccuracies, the unfinished sentences, the hyperbolic rantings, the cliches... His commentary was horrendous.

Luke Hodge wasn't much better.

Kudos to James Brayshaw though. Never been a huge fan. But he was factual, read the game beautifully, accurate and when the time was right to get excited he came up with: Bang... bang, bang, bang, after Oliver's goal! Loved it.

Taylor and Hodge versus Brayshaw and Daisy was like chalk and cheese.

His nephew was out there.  He was as invested as us, Jimmy Brayshaw, the big [censored].

Assuming they didn't have it, is a couple of weeks in the clink worth it? Quite possibly.

(Mind you I hope they challenge any sentence on constitutional grounds. It's the vibe of it. It's the Constitution. It's Mabo. It's justice. It's law. It's the vibe and ah, no that's it.)

They would have understood the financial penalties before they went over.  They would have done a personal risk asessment and decided the Dees were worth the punt.

They cop the fines but have the memory of a lifetime.

I hope their risk assessment included a month in jail. The WA government is jailing 1 in 6 CoVID breaches. This is the most high profile.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
