Talk about backs against the wall - the Dogs will have all the ammunition being in quarantine up until the day.

Not that anyone needs much motivation for a GF.

Well that didn't take long. Kane Cornes has declared the Dogs will win the GF after they embarrassed that rabble team of his, Port.  I'm sure, he has been on us all year right up until now.

Personally I find that reassuring.

I know that 57 years comes with a weight of expectation, but enjoy it Demonlanders. It’s great to be in a position to win a premiership, great to be in the spotlight, great to be relevant. If we win, we deserve it. If we lose, it will be to a better side on the day.

Yup SPC. Had to remind myself today as well that ours isn't a flash-in-the-pan team either. No matter how our last grand final outings felt, this MFC squad is right in its prime and built to contend for a number of years. Should we be beaten by a better team on the day, it won't be the end of the story. It may sound like softening any potential blow in advance, but until Gawn, May and Brown start fading we're not going to go backwards.

This is just the start of our window. I feel quite serene about any outcome, as if my hard work as a supporter over the past however many years during our darkest of times has already been done. I might even 'retire' once Oliver and Trac are done - can't remotely stomach the thought of going through our next rebuild - and hopefully we snag a few flags before then. That said, I hope our older, potentially fading members get a chance at glory this year.

We deserve to be favourites. Our finals form us very good. Most of our team is in terrific form and no injuries.

The dogs defence is average. Ours is excellent and I think that’ll win the game for us. Bring our usual intensity and we should break even in the middle

Is that the same Kane Cornes who was saying that he thought Port’s small forwards could be the difference if they met in the GF?

It harks all the way back to Roosy's philosophy... defence wins premierships.

All hail the great man.

How many times do you think we'll hear about this in the next 2 Weeks?

They can use the same violin and that Scott uses when he craps on about Geelong.

Jack Viney has played 149 games of AFL Football thus far, we have our own internal drivers for motivation. The dogs are only Favourites because we played first

Dogs will properly use Stefan Martin to tag Gawn.  They'll use Schache as a defensive forward on Lever.

That wont work. Did you see Martin last night? He's cooked.

He'll compete in the ruck, but I don't think he is any chance of keeping up with Gawn or Jackson around the ground.

It's an area we can, and need to, exploit.

Gawn will dominate Martin and with Viney back in form, added to Petracca & Oliver our midfield will more than match it with the Dogs.

They've got the chance.
Now they've gotta take it.
And they'll do it with both hands.
It'll be the best team in the competition unleashing all the weapons.
And we've got plenty.

Gawn to dominate full stop. Just watching Max again just seems rejuvenated, running goals marking everything but the thing that got me was the closing speed on the Rohan tackle. he's just motoring. Won't be able to counter him.

Stefan looked very slow last night and I think Jackson has it all over English so I don't think the rucks will be a worry. It is getting it out of the centre bounce which concerns me. Why don't we tag the taggers for the first 5-10 minutes or what I really liked was starting Kossie in there.

Poor form.

She just made the nightly news. Pathetic.

We can analyse the forward and backline matches up until the cows come home, but IMO it all pales in comparison to two things:

  1. the battle for CPs, clearances and ground ball gets; and
  2. goal kicking accuracy.

If they dominate us in CPs, clearances and ground ball gets, we'll be in trouble. Conversely, if we take that part of their game away from them (whether we dominate or we just break even), that does heaps for us - their game stems from those areas and if they don't control them, they don't set up as well.

Goal kicking accuracy is the other big one. We had our chances in Round 19 but kicked 9.11 to their 13.7. If we get chances early, we have to take them. We've already lost games this year due to poor kicking, I don't want to lose the biggest one of all of our lives.

Melb vs top 8 sides (incl, finals): 10-2

Dogs vs top 8 sides (incl. finals): 7-5

Port vs top 8 sides (incl. finals): 5-5

We’re a different kettle of fish.

Always knew port would lose, they only won 1 game against a top 4 side, when that side was in the top 4, how a team players in the home and away season is they way they play in finals,

And no mask. And the scarf is a 2017 EJ club which only has 500 members. The club can provide all names to police. Here’s to a 5k fine.

Stat wise it was very even that second game. If memory serves me right we got murdered by the umps and d50 stoppages and inaccuracy in front. update: 11 - 25 free kick count. 2-10 last Quarter.

Just watche dgame again.

Umps killed us 19-6 at 3/4 time. Some howlers they scored direct goals.

We missed at least 5 goals. Kicked 9 g 11b Fritsch and Brown were main offenders

Got cleaned up in the stoppages 31-27. They got several fwd stoppage goals

Got back to within 4 points in the last despite the free kick count killing us in the last. The kicked the last 3.

It was pouring with rain in the 1st qtr and we missed our chances, That break was essentially the game.

Keith went off with a hammy in the first.

Schache tagged lever. Daniel was left alone 'out the back' - cannot do that again. Langdon played on JJ, Brayshaw on Hunter

They used a lot of short kicks to break through our defence. Los of throws and dropped balls. They had often 2 extras at the stoppages

They don't scare me at all. But we need to play the game on our terms and pressure them reentlessly

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.
