Play well in a qualifying final with the team winning ... means so much more.  The appraisals in the OP bear witness

That player becomes a difference-maker and with it, a confident, extroverted winner

Get enough of those types and you win - big!

We went in as the superior team and we played up to expectations.  In a qualifying final! (back in the day, the 2nd semi was the equivalent - sorta/kinda)

It's been a while but we are primed & ready.  Stage fright was 2018

No it's not Tmac provides backup and needs minding Can also play down back if needed.
Our ground ball issues in defence far outway any Tmac fiorm worries.

Mark my words Tmac will be needed to combat Alair in GF.  Other talls cdm then star as they did tonight.

What we now know about Brayshaw is that he is the ultimate team player

He's a natural onballer/link player/released player who is needed to shore up a wing in a defensive role.  And he does it without any fanfare

But tonight was different ... suddenly his wing became an avenue of attack and Gus was front and centre.  Kudos

We had many good players tonight but a few who have previously copped flak shone through ... notably ANB,  Viney & Gus.   Rivers was back to his better form as well.  Looked assured all night

Sparrow also tackled brilliantly and played his part !

Brayshaw is growing into the wing role. He was excellent tonight and is an underrated one on one player.

May kept Daniher goalless for the first time this year.

Sparrow was superb. Rivers did a lot of small scrappy things that broke up Brisbane attacks.

TMac isn’t quite there atm, but will likely stay for structure rather than risk Weideman who has barely played and has been poor when he has.

Smith had a tough job tonight and stuck at it well. He is borderline though for Hunt or Hibberd.

All the players are saying it, it's about playing your role.  TMac had a role and he played it. Great job Joeboy

Smith stays. First player in weeks able to stay with Cameron and stop his goal fest

Anyone who thinks Brayshaw is a poor player has no idea. This is by far his best season ever. 3rd in the Brownlow can get stuffed. Give me 15 years of this from any player and I'll be rapt.

Great call.  An earlier poster nailed it in 3 too  -  "high IQ player".

You can't have too many of them I reckon.

TMac took their best defender out of the frame in Marcus Adams.  Did his job and can improve.

Andrews is their best defender by a mile.

Adams isn’t even an automatic best 22 and hasn’t played more than 11 games a year in the last 6 years.

WAS their best defender. He's no longer AA for a reason.

Tmcd - is a worry.

4 possessions.  Only really showed one chance to shine and his miss from 35/40 was a real opportunity.

Lacked intensity. He got caught twice.  “He’s as slow as a glacier” I remarked.  I think his back must not be 100% again as his agility is poor. Circa 2020. We need Tom mcd of 2018 and 1st half 2020.

@Basher wondering what you're laughing at?

I thought Rivers looked a bit nervous early in the first, with some uncharacteristicly rushed disposal and position, but settled well and played his role.

Of all Joeboys 3 words it was the one I didn't agree with.

Wasnt laughing at you @deanox. My smilie was that i was agreeing with you. A couple of mistakes in first quarter probably dueto nerves . Excellent second half.

You know, players don't have to have high stats  to play well. I watched TMac tonight and he played an important role in clearing space, that is what makes a great team, like when Gus was getting low stats, but played the defensive wing position and the sacrifices he made were so important. I give the whole team my 3 word analysis.

Great team Effort

Seriously, important role in clearing space!!! He had 4 possessions & no impact at all.

Thats not going to work in a preliminary final

I reckon Petty is improving each week.
Far more confident than he was early in the year. Also there was an element of OMac/Frosty about him when he did get a possession.

Yep, and not unexpected either

Big occasion player as he possesses an important quality - Class.  In his element tonight

His deft touches, knock ons & release possessions were immense.  High IQ player.  His wing was often the attacking aspect tonight

I had him as one of our best players tonight along with Max, ANB, Clarry,  Viney,  Petracca & Salem

Gawn was B.O.G ... the man is an absolute warrior.  What a player & leader!!

Comments on Gus were spot on! Classy outfit doing the things we need, gaining the ground and maintaining ball possession across the team.

Brayshaw had a good game but he really has to improve his decision making when he has the ball inside 50. Always looks to be in two minds and sometimes I think he should just have a ping.

Yes it will if you look past the individual stats and consider the "hidden impact"a player has.

That’s it.

My concern was when he came in, he gave off similar kicks with no depth and penetration that OMac was infamous for.  He also had the decision making deficiencies that both Frostball/OMac possessed.

Some might say that comes down to being a kid and this type of thing will be inevitably overcome. That is partly defensible, but I don’t fully agree. Bowey, Sparg and Salo are great examples of kids who have had great delivery and decision making skills from moment dot (albeit they are different types of players). OMac and Frosty never have improved on that front either.

I have no worries with him when he gets the ball. Having Maysie and Lever down there must help tremendously on that front; two role models for how to play as a tall defender.

Is their best Defender. Would you  take Adams over Andrews?

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
