Toby Greene umpire contact

The last one with Heppell happened on Sunday.  It was in play, he took several steps toward the umpire and must have seen him yet pushed him in the chest and upper arm which were forceful enough to force him back. Went round him only after the umpire had been pushed out of Heppell's path.  Didn't try to pull up.  Didn't look back.  Didn't apologise.  Not even cited by MRO.

And before folks pile on, I fully recognise the difference with the Toby incident.  Just surprised the MRO didn't even have it in the 'events reviewed' category and explain why no penalty was appropriate.

I saw it at the time and did not for one second think there was anything wrong with it. It is exactly what I would do in a situation in the street with a stranger if I bumped into them without seeing them except I would say "sorry mate didn't see you there".

Three weeks. There goes GWS finals campaign

I reckon the the Geriatrics are still ripe for the picking.  Hopefully Mumford and Hawkins get in a punch up and neither play again.  And Selwood gets concussed by diving too hard.

For those criticising the AFL, the tribunal is independent.

The AFL asked for six weeks

I suspect the Tribunal took into account missing a potential PF and GF. Not unreasonable, . In normal circumstances may have been 5 to 6 weeks mid season.

Plus the cost to GWS and likely loss of potential captaincy.

Three weeks seems light, but it may have been strategic as a way to avoid a GWS appeal. Imagine if the Tribunal had gone with a 6 week sentence? Then GWS may have decided to appeal. That might have lead to a Not Guilty verdict. I think keeping the sentence on the light side made it harder for GWS to appeal.

Greene is a cultural cancer. We talk about culture being so paramount in successful clubs. This guy is a captain with all the mental capacity and restraints of a toddler. He is constantly doing the wrong thing and costing his side.

GWS have basically just lost the semi final thanks to him and his idiotic actions. If Viney or Gawn did that, I would be livid.

GWS have a spineless coach with all the personality of a lampshade, and a bunch of star players who play like individuals for their big paydays. There is no unity and no team first mentality, and that is personified perfectly by their two leaders. One is in it for the money, the other is in it for Toby.

Good luck to them.

On Footy Classified last night they made a point of showing Gawn giving all our players a "high five" (actually a "low five" if that's the correct term, given their hands were all pointing downwards) as they ran onto the ground on Saturday night. It was presented as an example of why he's a good captain.

Not at all sue.

To be honest, I find the narrative of the AFL as a Machiavellian puppet master all a bit silly.

I agree too many do take that narrative far too far, especially when things go wrong for their favorite club, but what motivates the AFL is usually pretty clear and it's usually no surprise as to the result.  But in this instance, how independent is the Tribunal?  Who appoints it?  Who are the appointees? What are their careers? What is their reationship to the AFL?  Convince me that the answers indicate real independence.

To add insult to injury, I assume the airline has just imposed an "Excess Baggage" charge on GWS for carrying Greene to WA.

Plus fined for "Unnecessary Travel".

A really great player but his brain fades have really damaged him as a Star and his Club at the most critical of times. I was really shocked when I saw the incident and the look on Jesse Hogans face following the incident confirmed to me the unacceptable nature of the incident. The Giants should impose further sanctions on him so that he actually gets it.!!!!

The thought of Max and Spargo doing a genuine high five 🙌 is food for thought.

I have a vision of Greene being pushed out of the plane as it taxis down the runway.

Well the Giants have no option but to come out and physically smash the Cats and try to spread and run the oldies off their feet

Sounds good to me!

Bring in Pruess to team up with Mummy to break some bones

Considering he could miss 3 finals including a prelim and GF, the suspension is not insignificant

equal to 6-8 in the H&A

Interesting logic.

He offended during a final, so that should be double the standard penalty, yeah?

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
