Top of the table

46 years for me.

8 years for my son.

We're high fiving and fist bumping like mad. We are in a caravan on the Nt Wa border near Kununurra waiting to pass through tomorrow. But [censored] me this is the best moment of my life right now.

Beats having a Melbourne cup runner in 2005 and the run in to 2000 and 88 by the length of the flemington straight.

What does tonight eclipses you?

I’m in frikn quarantine in Tassie! Hmmm...87 was similar euphoria. But I have to say winning a minor premiership is a feat all on its own. The greatest achievement in my 50 years of supporting and done coming from 44 down with a kick after the siren. Nothing beats this in my history.  Only a flag could eclipse this... and even if that doesn’t happen , no one can ever take this moment and minor flag away.

The end really made me think of 1987 Preliminary final. But it went our way.

It's been such a long period of relatively steady success this year that this end(ish) result is sort of, like, 'Yeah, well, of course!'...

...but WHAT A WAY TO DO IT!!!!

p.s. Silverware (McLelland (sp?) Trophy) is in the post🏆

We also win the McClelland Trophy. First time since 1990. For those too young to remember, it was awarded to the VFL/AFL club with the most success across Seniors, reserves and Under 19 comps. collectively. These days it is awarded to the minor Premiers. Hey silverware is silverware! Cool eh?

Last night was the most momentus victory for this club in my time.

I posted last year that this win was easily the best H&A win in my 15 years supporting the Dees (to be fair ‘06 to ’17 was a wasteland so not much competition). I didn’t even consider comparing to our finals victories of ’18 cos obviously finals victories are a level above H&A victories. Right

The more I have thought about it today the more I believe that this win tops those finals wins in ’18 (and the elim final victory in ’06  for that matter). Those 2 nights at the G in 18 were amazing. The place was rocking and it really felt like we had finally arrived as a team. As we all know we fell in a heap in the prelim and ’19 was a nightmare season. We rode the crest of a wave in ’18 but ultimately those wins were built on porous foundations.

Last night’s victory and performance feels different. It had real substance to it. It was the culmination of what we have been building towards. The manner of the comeback, the team we played, the location, Maxy kicking the winner after the siren. The leadership, guts, never say die attitude was something to behold. The exact qualities we have been missing since forever. It was the embodiment of the new Melbourne. It was no fluke. We’ve fought back in other games this year, most notably against the Lions.

If we do when the flag this year we will look back at this game as the catalyst that propelled us to the promised land. The moment when the team and the faithful truly started to believe. I'm convinced we will win it and no amount of MFCSS will change my mind

THIS IS OUR YEAR

Well technically the AFL keeps the trophy and we get a replica. I can’t wait to see it though

So are the numbers.  Consider this:

1.  Number 13 wins Brownlow in same year that his teams wins their 13th Premiership.

2.  Our last flag was 57 years ago in 1964.   I was born in 1957 and am now 64.

3.  We won 17 games this year.  Jake Bowey wears #17 and looks 17 years old.

Nah, Bowey doesn't look that old, he looks like an Auskicker...I half expect him to pick up the ball and go home if he doesn't get a kick.  Great football brain.  Go Dees.

Veteran Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin returned to the training track to bring you the following observations from Gosch's Paddock this morning. Beautiful morning for training. Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
