Must’ve needed his lil nana-nap earlier than usual.

I need one after that!  And a little nip of Nan's brandy.  Actually she prefers Cognac, even better

I actually thought the 50m was pretty clear cut, it was out by 2.5m when he fisted it 12 rows back and the umpire had called the out of bounds. I’ll admit I didn’t see what it was for at the time but when I rewatched it I felt it was very obvious.

The deliberate was just so unfathomable, it was a hack kick forward and any footy person would tell you we’d want it kept in. It was just as bad as the Clarry one given earlier in the night. He has nothing to complain about with the umpires, doesn’t stop him though.

I don't think there was one HTB or incorrect disposal paid against the cats all night.

Must have been influenced by the fake crowd

Have to say given how fit we are and how good we are in 4th quarters I thought we would get closer to Geelong. But to win against Dad’s Army. It was fantastic. You can ban me if you like but I was shouting F**k Geelong after the siren. And all sorts of complimentary things about Max Gawn!

Remember when Max missed one from directly in front to lose the Game against Geelong at the MCG?

He worked on his goal kicking ever since and  paid it back in spades tonight.

Hell no !

Sack Goodwin !!!!

Someone had to say it

44 points down with 6.36 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter.

No team in VFL/AFL history has ever won from there

1964-Melbourne Minor Premiers,Melbourne Premiers,Tokyo hosted the Olympics.

Hmmm...

Well that was nice....

i recall all going to Geelong years ago and we won on a kick after the siren (or at least on the last kick of the game).

big max  legend.

Just starting to watch part of the replay. By chance I started it with seven minutes to go in the 3rd. Rowan just kicked a goal  to put cats 44 ahead.  Good viewing from here on in.

Man, I'm still so wired!

I'm thrilled for Max honestly. His last quarter was amazing - killed it in the middle, then went back and kicked the Captain's Goal.

He's SENSATIONAL, and I hope he gets the All-Australian Captaincy gig!

The greatest Melbourne win I've ever seen, given the stakes and the opposition, and frankly the venue.

My sister and dad called me directly after the game and I was crying, and we were screaming. I woke up Ed, but what a good luck charm he's been. 23 weeks old.

There's no way I'm getting to sleep tonight.

Oh and the fact Trac's name is uttered in the same sentence as Oliver is a joke. He's not even in the same league. If Oliver adds goals to his game, he'll be the best player in the league, simple as that. I can't remember a better game from a Melbourne player in such a high stakes affair.

Tackles inside 50

Melb: 20, Geelong: 6

Excellent pressure.

That's our brand, play like that and we'll beat anyone

I had to come down over the last hour. I swear to god I was calm all game but then blew out my voice box on one kick!

OLIVER PHENOMENAL!!!

I just watched the mini on Kayo. He was epic. Just went missing in the 2 half of 2Q. Pity no body else stepped up then to just put a strangle on the game. Other than that 20mins it was a pretty good game from the boys.

Randomly just getting all the feels for Steven May.

He currently is third on the list of most games by current players who are yet to play in a final, with 168.

Next week he gets to come off that list.

That was a great piece where he quickly ran up to Max after he took the mark. Gave him a pat on the chest and a quiet word in his ear before he lined up to seal it.

Bloody nice pitching wedge by Lever into the forward line too.

Let’s just be thankful that we have them both. I think a lot of teams will be super jealous.

I watched the entire thing from the beach in portugal, people thought I was mad when I suddenly started screaming and crying. That was the greatest moment in the last 50 years of our club’s history. One to remember forever.

Now let’s win the flag!!!!

How come Nasher can write a-r-s-e but I can’t? Wait… now he is censored too in my quote of him. What’s going on?

Yeah the umpiring again was pretty darn appalling. I thought that last 1 minute was another Adelaide moment all over again. They simply had to pay that 50 though it was clear as day. Otherwise  there would have been a different reason for protests in the Melbourne CBD tomorrow.

Hugely emotional evening in the land of the oval-shaped ball.

Just watched Eddie Betts' final post-match interview.

What an absolute superstar he has been.

Love the dude.

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.
