I’ve had a long, hard look at Twomey’s Top 30 and I wonder where Cal Twomey gets his intel from?

Two weeks ago, he published his Draft Team of the Year in which he placed Mac Andrew on the interchange bench. He’s pick #9 here. The rationale must be that he doesn’t make the best 18 because he’s there because of his long term potential and the suggestion is that he’s been told by  at least one club recruiter (I suspect more than one) that he’s in their sights. Otherwise, this doesn’t make sense to me.

There were a couple of other NGA’s in Twomey’s DTOY. They were Collingwood’s Youseph Dib and St Kilda’s Michito Owens but neither of them are in his top 30 a fortnight later. Strange.

Full back Zak Becker, winger Isaac Birt and interchange also missed his top 30.

Josh Rachele who was surprisingly left out of Twomey’s team is back in favour at number 8.

All this suggests that we can expect plenty of surprises and changes in lists of this type before the final decisions are made.

the DTOTY is significantly different to his top 30 predictions as the rolling team is based on live form therefore injured players/covid affected players have had significantly less exposed form compared to consistent WA/SA based players who have been strong week on week. thats the major reason for the diversity. also a rolling side must have 6-6-6 whereas in a draft theres nothing to stop the first 20 players picked being midfielders however that is unrealistic when picking a side (unless it happens to be a prestigious AA side *eyeroll*)

• Collingwood looking at Geelong’s Natan Kreuger who has yet to play an AFL game;

• Josh Caddy looking for a 4th club;

• Gold Coast considering a bid for Luke Parker.

krueger did play 1 game as a KPD when henderson was a late out, showed some signs but hard to see the cats letting him go with their ageing stocks (Blic, Hawk, Stanley + Henderson all 30+) he will get more chances over the next 12 months as will Sam DeKoning

Correct, like best on the ground in a final.

Correct 3 years ago. Traits like his game against Collingwood this year.

Maynard doesn't excite me. Has quite a few brain fades. I do like his attack on the ball though, He is manic.

He's not what we need.

We need to add outside run and delivery skills. Someone like Bowie only taller! Laurie could be that person but is only 181cm. Maybe a Lukosias type.

You can't have enough class and where we sit we don't want to be adding second rate players.

We also need a back up ruckman. And eventually a replacement for McDonald.

I am also looking forward to the day that players are clamouring to get to the Dees because they want to play in finals..

Fair. But not even Port expected Aliir to be as good as he has been this year.

Also playing most games at the scg where the ground is small doesn’t suit his intercept game.

In the short term, I see Tomlinson returning to the 3rd tall, and Petty taking TMac's place. Petty trained as a forward before Tomlinson went down and I reckon he has a huge upside when returning there.

We have a huge amount of Casey players who are backmen who are in form or showing potential but aren't currently getting a game, and our midfield stocks look strong with the rise of Sparrow and Jordon.

We will probably lose Weideman so we probably need to trade or recruit another tall forward, and a medium marking forward if anything happens to Fritsch. Can't see what our list actually needs apart from these 2 things.

Obviously not the main priority at the moment but if Weid were to leave at the end of the year (could only see this happening if he said he wanted to - I think the club would want to keep him otherwise) would GWS's Riccardi be a target?  He's been pushed out of the side due to Hogan and co and he has links to Melbourne with Williams his former coach.

Admittedly he wouldn't be an automatic selection, but there's a reasonable chance he would get a game if any of TMac, BBB, Jacko or Gawn were injured.

Haven't seen enough of him to know how good he is.

Watched Riccardi few weeks back against Geelong and he was terrible. Had the turning circle of Ben Holland.

Certainly wouldn't want him based on that showing.

I think we should have a serious look for the next Nev Jetta. we need a high quality lock down small defender, we have players who can do an okay job in the role, but i think this is something that could take us to the next level.

If we kick straight, and keep Charlie Cameron under control we keep a very in form Brisbane side to less than 5 goals in my opinion

How would our straight kicking help to keep Brisbane under five goals?

I meant to add to the post that it would have been a much more significant margin, just forgot to add that part.

We have him on our list already, D Smith, he has the potential, moves really well and the games I saw him play looked very composed with the ball in hand with good skills.  Still very raw, hopefully the club persists with him

Given lack of opportunities in the 2nds  I would have like to see Daws play forward. Smith on the wing/forward or Declase on the wing. We should prise Kemp from the blues, I am aware  that he is not a world beater now. Hunt took awhile to get going with injuries and poor form. Rivers could be made into a mid whilst Petty could play forward next year and cold be another T.Mac. Our areas I would like see we need a forward an outside mid.

Kemp is an extremely talented footballer, and the Blues know that, and they rate him extremely highly and are fully aware that he will take time. we are next to zero chance of being able to get him, as great a signing as he would be

That Hogan kid is doing alright! Maybe we should ask the question?

Huge story that's just been announced, but Lachie Neale has asked for a trade back to Fremantle due to family reason.

Why did he leave Freo in the first place? Always thought that was weird, but didn't look too much into it.

That's Brisbane finished

Well it's not..

They'll drop a few spots down the ladder, but will still make finals.

If anything its good for them. He'll be 29 next year and for a bloke that racks it up a fair bit he doesn't really have any hurt factor.

He's also part of their slow on ball brigade that's been killed by top sides due to their lack of pace.

They'll get a good 1st rounder and there's a bloke by the name of Deven Robertson who'll step straight into that role after another good solid pre season.

Pretty sure it was just about going to a better footy club and also getting out of the intense footy bubble in Perth.

If you go back to his Brownlow speech it's probably not a total shock he's putting his partner first now.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
