Great win.

I agree with the strategy late in the game of going long down the line but I don't agree with it vs the Eagles. They have some of the best contested marks in the comp and the last ten minutes we played directly to these strengths imo.

Great games to Harmes being released into the mids. Better than what Viney produces and kicked a great goal.

Well done to Melksham as well. A few Bomber supporting mates of mine backed him in this week saying he always plays well when back in like has has something to prove. We need to keep him on the edge it seems. He plays his role as a defensive forward well and in 2018 he did some great jobs on McGovern in Rd 22 and Sicily in semi. He takes his chances around goals as well so he must stay.

ANB wonderful game and also LJ. Couldn't believe this kids contested grabs. I haven't always been a fan but it's clear he's going to be special.

Trac and Ollie are just wonderful players and we're so lucky to have them. God help us if one goes down.... we'd be shot.

No idea what people see in Brayshaw.....

Ummmm, last game of the year is the GF.

Ummn, by the logic of the post that was quoted no victory through year is worth dlddliesquat.

Hard to acrue sufficient points to make the finals without the occasional win

Right.

Your first post after the game, other than to bag the umpires, is to say this win means nothing if we don't win the premiership.

That's a ripper attitude.

And by ripper I mean ridiculous.

Nope not this win. The fact that we are 7-2 against top 8 teams so far counts for nothing if we don’t go all the way.

Gotta make it count or it’s just a waste. Sure go ahead and celebrate winning the battles, I want to win the war.

Well done to AnB. BoG in his 100th game.

And credit to Harmes, was easily our best midfielder and one of his best games all year.

I don’t know if it was because of no Viney, but for those 3 and a half qtrs I thought our midfield purred and we dominated clearances.

We most certainly did not dominate. Tim Kelly dominated, if it wasn't for him west coast had nothing.

Call me a negative nelly all you like but we're top of the table, we should at least act like we know how to close out games and are disappointed with mental errors and poor preparation.

Petracca could've iced it straight after the restart. Spargo should've. Jackson too.

But out real issues were defensively were we still can't work out that 1 short kick takes 10 seconds, which can then be followed by the long bomb down the line that hopefully takes 30+ off the clock.

We could even do 3 or 4 short kicks, then the long bomb! Imagine that.

And the senior players who came out flat as a tack in the restart isn't acceptable. I'm looking at one Jake Lever. Seriously, get your head in the game mate and get some balance on those legs.

Nice enough first quarter and a good 3rd term. But the Eagles are absolutely making up the numbers this year and we gave them a genuine sniff whilst also letting the rest of the league know we're still not a mature outfit.

So maybe I'm not seeing things straight. But is it just me thinks we at least got a few early quarters of 'favourable' (in that parallel Optus Stadium universe) umpiring?

It is just me, isn't it...

On another matter, top 4 locked in 2 rounds out is like a really BIG Friday-night-sit-back-and-watch-the-others win. Though now watch us all get angst about falling out of top 2...

Yeh, I thought he was just looking around waiting for the umpire to blow his whistle and call it a mark.

James Harmes take a bow. How you can pull that game out after the past five I'll never know. But fantastic that you did!

No Viney that's why.

Midfield looks far more balanced with Harmes playing good minutes in there and with less Viney.

He was great tonight, I prefer him in the middle than Viney.

Me too, I think he syncs better with Trac and Clayton tbh. Been very disappointed with Vines since returning from injury. The lashing out last week has to be frustration on his part and just seemed to be trying too hard..

They will use the last 10 days to galvanise the group. Maybe it will be the defining moment. Yes, I’ve had three heart attacks (thanks Teddy), but they did what had to be done - even in that last 15 minutes when the meth cokes were on a high, the maggots took maggotry to a higher level and the crowd was feral - we got the job done! Some significant winding down of the clock - and then Clarrie’s last clearance. Off to my cardiologist in the morning, but so proud of the boys and how they are responding to everything thrown at them. Just maybe the lightening was the last roll of the dice for the Norm Smith Curse. Dare to dream, go Dees!!!!!

That game looked incredibly sapping, and we have sweet F.A time to recover. Little worried about the next two.

Harmes Nibbler Melksham Jackson Brown, really impressive efforts, all semi-fringe players.

What I don’t get is why the 10 [censored] differential…? Seriously, half the time when our boys tackled a player, they were picking their opponent up off the ground and patting them on the back - who says chivalry is dead, but our boys were 100% gentlemen tonight and it was great to see.

I’ll take the win, go Dees!!!

That analogy makes literally no sense.

You can't win the war if you don't win the battles.

You might as well have said I wanted to get to the summit. Bur not climb tbe mountain.

Fair dinkum. Afteer all the hidings the dees have copped in Perth by the Eagles, what sort of supporter looks to diminish a win like that.

Will count for squat if we don’t win the last game of the year

It counts for four points and top place. It counts for experience.  It counts for confidence. We won for [censored] sake. Smile and move on.

You can still appreciate the wins along the way though. Deal with that if/when it happens

Re Spargo play-on. I thought he looked confused rather than trying to play on.

He marked it and took a step off the line towards goals. Same reason why Max keeps being asked to play on, lack of understanding of when a player is actually playing on or not.

Max will be called play on for deciding to attempt and then choose not to make a handball after a mark before the end of the year

I was listening to radio whilst watching ( can’t stand ch 7 commentators ) , umps called play on apparently, but looked like it travelled 20 plus metres. Perhaps it was touched off the boot?? Only explanation other than umpire bias.

Was very much relieved to win!

The last few minutes stressed me out like crazy!

We rarely win against the Eagles in Perth so I was quite pleased we got over the line. These types of wins are crucial and puts us back on top of the ladder.

I definitely feel the stop in play due to the thunder and lighting hindered our momentum with a 32 point advantage.

Anyway, at least we won and we can now refresh, reset and refocus on playing Adelaide at the MCG next week.

We need to get revenge against the Crows for beating us by 1 point earlier in the season!

Go Demons!!!

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
