Adelaide Crows' forward Taylor Walker will miss six games and make a $20,000 contribution to an Indigenous programme after making a derogatory comment against a North Adelaide Roosters player.

There is no place in football or in society for racism. His career must be in the balance.

If it were a club member who, say, posted what Tex said on social media to a player, they would rightfully be identified by the club and have their membership torn up.

Walker should be cleaning out his locker. Bloody disgrace.

There's been a discussion about this taking place on the Jack Viney thread.  Merge perhaps?

Don't take this the wrong way...we can work to eradicate the words but what troubles me is the thinking behind the words.

For all the enquiries and work on racist issues in the AFL It's obviously still there and at club level, not just the odd bogan in the crowd.

The words are hurtful but why do AFL players in particular still have this racist thinking? I'm guessing Tex is not the only one by the way, that would be impossible to believe. So whilst he's been caught out voicing his thoughts others will be harbouring the same thinking.

Thanks for starting this thread whispering Jack.  Its a serious issue that must be totally stamped out of not just afl but society. The fact its highlighted, hopefully even if it doesnt change stupid mindsets at least it may not be voiced.

The Adam Goodes doco broke my heart and while Walker has rightfully expressed remorse there is just way too much of this going about. Walker should know much better.

It was overdue for this alleged sportsman to be caught up with for his underlying attitudes.

Walker has shown remorse.
What Rubbish

This is the real problem

He got caught. That is not remorse

Look anyone at nay age shouldn't say racial things, but this is a 31 year old man who has seen what his ex teammate Eddie Betts go through stuff, he was at that camp where apparently things were said, like what was he thinking.

Not a lot.

Disgusting really. The amount of people on the AFL social media pages saying that a 6 week ban is overkill is absolutely appalling. Adelaide should rip up his extension.

Come on AFL time to step in.

No more time for BS excuses and puss weak appologies.

not for a second defending him

but fair to say a 6 week game suspension, $20,000 donation, lost game payments, national level public condemnation and probably his career is a fairly decent punishment by most standards.

i appreciate a few a few people would like to see to see him placed in the stocks or given a public caning but let's keep some reasonable perspective

This is what I find the most disturbing. You would think that being the captain a footy club and playing alongside indigenous players in a time when there is such awareness of racism that it would be the last thing that you would think of saying. I think back to how the indigenous players felt during the camp with the talking stick and lack of cultural sensitivity.

The osiitive out if this is that the Crows official reported it and such moments are capable of having a profound impact

A wise man once said "let he without sin cast the first stone" but I guess the book it came from got thrown out when the AFL started playing games on Good Friday.

Worth listening to Michael O’loughlin on 3AW - articulate and scathing. Hard to see Tex recovering from this.

Was that tonight?

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
