I don’t understand this thinking. So if we played them in two weeks we could beat them but playing them next week means we lose? We aren’t carrying significant injuries. Nothing will be different next week to the week after, except for perhaps a small-ish crowd.

It wasn’t so much a comment as to when the game is played, rather a prediction for the game, whenever it takes place.

Maybe this should go into the Post Match thread, but I think it’s now becoming obvious that if an opposition squeezes our mids in,  they will turn it over, trying to handball to each other in tight. As long as the opposition does not then bomb the ball high into our D50, they can get good looks at goal. Our problem is that we don’t have the forward structure to put scoreboard pressure on the other way. I just think the Doggies are better set up than we are - I’d be delighted to be proven wrong, but on last night’s showing, I think we will be found out.

Does not matter who we play. After yesterday they look gone.

I bet you said the same after the Adelaide, Collingwood, and GWS games ??

Not to mention that by playing the Dogs next weekend, we are saved a trip to Darwin in the energy sapping humidity.  If anything, we should be much fresher for the game.

Also, if the Suns game is shifted to round 20 and is still in Darwin (lockdowns and border closures permitting), hopefully we would head directly to Perth and spend the week there preparing for the Eagles game in round 21.

You do know we beat the Dogs this year already, right? At their preferred venue?

It's very easy to feel despondent after a loss or, in this case, a draw, but reflecting on the season so far we are very much in the hunt for this win.

I suspect we're not saved the Darwin trip, not yet anyway.

My gut tells me the whole reason they're making these moves is because the NT won't let us in this week, so they want to delay it a further week to see if the NT will let us in next week.

I can't see why these three games need to be moved otherwise - if Port can FIFO, surely Brisbane (vs Hawthorn) and Adelaide (vs the Dogs) could too.

Did anyone else notice that Brayshaw let this slip in the post match interview? Seems like its almost a done deal…

Wow. I didn't hear this. So it's highly likely we went into last night's game knowing we'd be playing the Bulldogs next week? Fascinating. That's quite similar to the Adelaide game earlier in the year...

No chance we have crowds this week, we'll probably still be in lockdown

Why?

Settles the question about that top spot, takes that pressure off (Personally don't care if we finish 1st or 2nd, just one of them) .  Gives us more time to fix structural problems with the team.   We also come with the right mindset for sides, plus the came won't be after a possible trip to Darwin.

I just hope the boys come to Perf to play and smash the Eagles.

My only game I can attend all year.

I second that...  prefer a live game and take out the PF, we have been playing well in Perth.

Given we tend to respond most strongly the week following a bad game I’d rather play dogs this week to be honest. Last time we played it was following the Crows 1 point loss this time it’s the Hawks draw.

I guess it doesn’t matter in one sense as we won’t be able to attend but will the game be moved back to the Friday night blockbuster time slot that was originally mooted or will they stick with the Saturday night?

I would be genuinely surprised if we beat them.

They will tackle and hunt us like no tomorrow.

And we can't do the same ?

God I hope its Saturday not Friday. We need all the rest we can get after the physicality of the last two games. Hawthorn especially I thought were ferocious with their tackling and body work around the ball. Sore boys.

No FTA coverage I’d reckon.  Seven will be hips deep in the olympics.  Doesn’t matter when it is played.

that's a good point

First night of the swimming which is where most of the eyeballs will be.

On reflection a competition pause for a week or two makes sense but we know how one eyed the AFL can be.

PS: I assume our game is Saturday... if it's Friday it'll clash with the Opening ceremony

Dunkley out ..14 day quarantine

Didn't he play on the weekend? I understand he has twice tested negative but if he has to isolate for 14 days despite the negative result why aren't his teammates or the opposition in isolation too?

Surely Seven can spare one of its four (or is it five?) FTA channels for AFL coverage? (Apologies to regional viewers - I have no idea how many channels Seven makes available outside the big cities.)

Wondering why the AFL has no mention of the change in games anywhere, but the media reporting it?

Because they haven't finalised the details YET obviously.
