With the lower scores again this year, the AFL are due to do something stupid with the rules again.

Maybe shorter quarters and longer breaks to squeeze more ads in?

Knee Jerk time is near.

I'm betting heavily on some sort of zones at stoppages. Will be putrid.

Surely what the AFL needs is salary cap concessions for players over 30 who were traded into their current club after at least five seasons at a previous club.

Obviously this wouldn't be a rule just to suit Geelong. It is entirely coincidental that it would apply to Dangerfield, Stanley, Henderson, Tuohy, Jenkins, Smith, Higgins and Rohan.

I know I'm in the minority and this won't be popular, but I believe the future is 16 a side with shorter quarters. The game was invented over 150 years ago, and it wasn't invented with 18 aerobic beasts in mind that can clog up every blade of grass on the ground. I'd rather a couple of drastic changes to "reset" things rather than all these confusing rules like zones coming and going every year.

There you have it. Give me your best.

Not sure it would be much different.

Gee I dislike this guy. I mean really dislike. I think if he ran into a burning building to save an old lady and two dogs in a highly flammable suit, I would still be [censored] that he left the cat behind.

It's that kind of dislike. He is a [censored].

He really is an insufferable whining sook. A big part of why Geelong is so unlikable.
Just because your team is old enough to double dose on AZ doesn’t mean you get special concessions. This isn’t a pensioners club mate.

Chris Scott, Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield. Are there bigger FIGJAMs in the league than them? How a club has the three biggest FIGJAMs in the league all under the same roof, says a lot about that football club.

might as well not call it footy

Change the game change the name  how about Nuffball!!!

I must admit in the first few weeks I thought gee these quarters are way to long. I mean you definitely noticed the difference between watching last year and this season, but as the season has gone on I haven't noticed it. Maybe it's because we are having a great season.

Ok, let's shorten the quarters by not having the field umpire wait in the middle of the ground after each goal with the ball at their feet looking up to the stand waiting for a light to go on before he can bounce the ball.  Or not wait to have a chat to the players around the place to discover which one is going to contest the ball up. Or perhaps not wasting time to review a decision that a competent goal umpire would get right 99 % of the time, or maybe just get the boundary umpire to throw the ball in as soon as he is in position with the ball in hand.

How about never stopping the game to look at balls crossing the boundary line. Just adjudicate on what you see.

The duration of the game would be significantly shorter with any of these changes.

Whatever Chris Scott is pushing for should be opposed with every fibre of our bodies !!!!

Plonker !

100% especially when we can't attend half the year thanks to Covid!

The more we tweak the game the more we adapt to it. If you want to make the game better, get better umpires. Simple.

Put scoring figures to one side.

I'd argue, and I think many would agree, that the football produced this year has been the best in years.

We're approaching Round 18 and there are at the moment only 2-3 sides who aren't playing good football and there are arguably 14 sides in contention for finals (definitely 12, and Carlton/GC would be in there at a real stretch).

I've argued for a while that more goals does not necessarily equal better football. The football right now is actually very good.

There is nothing wrong with the "state of the game". I'd much rather see the AFL focus its time and resources on fixing things that are far more broken, such as the MRP/tribunal and the 2022 fixture process.

Also investing some money into junior umpiring, so we have some decent umpires coming through. We've lost a few good ones to retirement and they have been replaced by absolute bottom of the barrel D grade umpires and even worse ex-footballers.

If we made umpires full time employees or at least took umpiring more seriously, the standard may get a hell of a lot better making games a hell of a lot better.

The only thing that has been awful to watch this year aside from umpiring, is goal kicking. The goal kicking standard has been woeful.

I think we will either see a massive reduction in interchanges allowed before quarters are shortened.

There is clearly a desire to reduce congestion and the league seems to think fatigue is a good way to combat that. Unfortunately with fatigue, i think we will see more injuries as teams will try to maintain the current style of football with less rotations.

Reducing quarter lengths will only make congestion worse so cannot see this happening at all.

I don't know how you can remove congestion entirely from the game without introducing some form of permanent zoning rules i.e. having at least 1 player in f50 arc at all times.

So you font want  us dominating the WINGS now they we have Langers almost AA and Angus defending and linking up on the other in 2nd best career form ( after 2018).

Let us win at least 3 or 3 flags first and I wont give a toss what they call the game or how it's played. I will be in the sunset home still watching replays of our great wins Covid  or no Covid!!

who said anything about wings being removed? 5-6-5 instead of 6-6-6 would be the way it'd be structured, not 6-4-6

3 of 3 flags? i want 15 in a row! 5 for goodwin as coach, 5 when he hands over to yze, then 5 for nathan jones...

the obvious first move to make is reduced rotations - 60 in total should be the next mark

there's no way the aflpa would agree to that if it was 16 on field, 6 on the bench tho i don't think

16 players per side cannot and should not ever happen.

It should not happen because the AFL did not spend all that money expanding into GC and GWS only to shrink the number of list spots available. The purpose of expansion is to grow AFL in those markets. We want there to be more opportunities to play AFL, not fewer.

It won't happen because the AFLPA won't let it happen.

But none of it needs to be even discussed.

I may be wrong on this but thought in the old VFA comp it was 16 per side with no wings ?

That's why I was aghast at losing 2 of our winners Lsngers and Gus!! Would have to be wingers.
