People realise our first pick in the next draft is 30-something right?

We've traded back into the first round repeatedly. We'll do the same again.

That said, a pick in the 30s for Jason Taylor is like a top 15 pick for us.

Interesting timing with Buckley stepping down but last week I was thinking about a Hibberd/Jetta replacement going forward and was thinking of Maynard and whether or not we'd have a crack at him, especially now given the unrest at the pies and with Buckley stepping down.

I've heard there a few unhappy mature-age players there and I know Maynard is friendly with some of our guys, Trac in particular from Metro days and obviously his brother Corey was on our list for a number of years.

Contracted until next end of next year but thought I'd throw it out there as I think he'd be a great fit and replacement for those guys I mentioned.

Tough, competitive and in the right system like ours I think he'd flourish.

Thoughts?

Yes I guess Maynard would be handy. I wouldn't be cancelling Hibberd any time soon, though. He's a class player, an all-Australian, in terrific form. Lots of games left.

The Cats only had 10 No. 30+ year olds playing last night - they may now have their eyes on another one for next year.

Maybe they are trying to put together a list for the new 35+ veteran men's AFL competition mooted to come into play ...like never.

In the form he's in I'm sure there isn't anyone here trying cancel Hibbo, but at his age, that cliff can come quickly (think Nev) and I think it would be better to bring in quality replacement options before we have a hole in the armor.

If we get him and Hibbo's still going strong, then perhaps that provides an oppertunity to play someone like Rivers or Salem further up the ground?

I guess Jordan Lewis would never leave Hawthorn either.

Jordan Lewis was pushed out the door. It’s a completely different situation.

You’re talking about approaching Pendlebury and convincing him to come here. Not going to happen.

...but yes I get where you are comming from.

I did read an article on Pendelbery in the past few months that was stating he was looking to step down from their captaincy and looking forward to mentoring the next captain comming through, so yes that would suggest he's pretty invested.  Mind you this was all before the Collingwood board erupted in civil war and Buckley pulled the pin too.

But he'll be pretty old at the end of the season and Collingwood will be looking to fee up.list spaces and probably cap space etc for rebuilding and also with a new coach, new board, new list manager and new club direction overall, who knows, he may change his tune all of a sudden.

Yeah true I suppose

Hibbo has plenty of gas left in the tank. He had to sit out a year because of his Essendon drugs ban so he doesn't have as many miles on the clock as the average 31 year old. I've seen no signs of him slowing up at all this year. He did a great job on dusty and kept Cameron quiet when we played the Lions. Reckon he has at least 2 years left in the legs yet if not more.

Did you miss Hibberd schooling Dusty Martin?

Hibbo is having a great year and deserving of another contract. However he is getting to the end (for some its hard to see it coming at that age) and will not always be injury free. If Hibberd goes down we have no one to play on those mid/forwards unless you want to shift May from his role. I am also not convinced how set Hunt will be in our best 22. There is a spot there for the right player.in the right age bracket if opportunity allows.

Completely agree. Besides we are at the beginning of our premiership window. If we recruit well we can stay in that window for 4-5 years or even longer. Like Geelong have. That means looking at the age profile and depth of all positions on the ground and recruiting for replacements based on most urgent needs.
With Jetta all but gone and Hibbo pushing 32, Smith unlikely to make it and speculative kids in the VFL, we need to look for a ready made mid sized defender with speed.

Isn't this the same dude that throws these kind of statements every year and turns out to be wrong?

Sadly yes. His strike rate is schiezenhuisen.

If there's a skerrick of truth in it though, that was a hell of an audition from Maynard. Best on for mine.

No idea of his strike rate, nevertheless thought it was worth a share

Maynard's game yesterday was elite and he gave Fritsch an absolute bath.

For Maynard to have that many touches also goes to show how poor Fritsch is off the ball and both he and Weideman yesterday were liabilities off the ball and helped Collingwood's easy ball movement from defence.

Think he'd be a great get and we wouldn't need to move mountains to acquire him.

Having heard the Maynard whispers, it was fitting that he came up holding the ball after that huge pack grab in the dying minutes. He is a warrior and thrives when the stakes are highest.

Anyone who thinks he is not worth pursuing should probably have a look at the job he did on Fritta, while still being the catalyst for plenty of Collingwood's forward movement. Can play

The thing to remember is Collingwood have admitted they still need to do some work with there salary cap, ignore what eddie says, and they need draft points for Daicos. A pick early 30's with some salary cap relief might be enough if Maynard request the trade???

No need to be rude, I am asking for you to be more specific. Which players and why?

Not sure I was rude, just a tongue-in-cheek comment.

There are multitude of reasons, most of them have been covered to death in the media. Which is why I asked where you'd been for the last 6-8 months.

* The treatment of Treloar and Stepho

* The 'do better' report and Eddie's comments immediately proceeding it.

* The current environment of the football club.

* The onfield performance.

I'm not divulging names, but what I've been told is that there are a number of players who are unhappy.

(Obviously that's subject to change from here on).

Rather target someone who is tough and can kick goals

Our back six is not our weakness IMO

I do rate Maynard though

still happy to give our 2022 first rounder for him

gun

Would happily have him on the list and he would fit in beautifully, but reckon a first rounder is steep for a half back flanker that can torch it by foot occasionally. I would put a trade on par with the cost for Hibberd i.e. a 2nd round pick.
