6 Dees in AFL.com.au Mid Year All Australian Team

Ed Langdon should be included. Best player by far in his position this year

mcluggage and macrae are inside mids, as is parish up forward - petracca you can get away with in that half forward position as he does at least rotate forward

but, tbh, this is more in keeping with all-oztrayan teams in reality; players placed out of position for no other reason than 'they have had a really good season!'

I actually meant Langdon.

The Ls got me I think. Can't blame it on Auto Correct.

Further to this All-Australian teams always ignore actual wingman. Langdon is a genuine old fashioned wingman and is so important to our team and is one of the reasons we're in the position we're in at the moment.

I think that Robbo’s team is far superior.???

What's the most AA selections we've ever had in one season?

Six would be monumental result if they all keep up their current form.

Langdon will be there by end of the year. Will definitely be in the team of 40.

He will be in the extended 40 man squad you would think if he maintains this form.

But not the best 22. Unfortunately the 'wing' role isn't of significance to the AA team as its just 'midfield' hence why no pure wingers ever really get in. Its all centre square midfielders.

I'd go Langdon in for May. Andrews to full back, Macrae to the bench.

Half forwards and wingmen get no love from a lot of selectors.

I'm ok with it if they are naming Bont and Petracca at half forward and Duncan and McCluggage on the wings. But there needs to be a minimum game time played in the position and there needs to be at least consideration for the best guys in each role.

Historically i agree. But listening to nick r (one of the aa selectors), he seemed pretty forthright he at least will be selecting wingman for his team. (Specifically Langdon).

Recent rule changes have increased the values of wingers and there's a chance a few of the selectors pick em.

Mccluggage (hes played more inside recently but its not a shock him on a wing) and Langdon for mine.

I personally don't care how many MFC players are named as AA's so long as the current MFC players can say they are premiership players.

I remember Gary Lyon's comment when introduce on the footy show as 6 times AA said I would give them all up to be called a Premiership player.

As mentioned, Langdon should be at least on the bench.

Gripes;

1) Too many inside mids:

im ok with both Parish and Petracca being named at HFF, but not if the bench has Wines and Lyons. Way too many inside players.

2) Too many tall defenders:

May, Weitering, Lever, Stewart, Harris-Andrews. Pick 3. Who locks down on the small forward?

3) Lack of runners:

Too many talls and inside players on the bench. Langdon would help.

4) Coach/Captain:

Clearly Goodwin and Gawn. Name them now to give them the recognition.

Edit: Gawn has been named captain. My bad.

Fair team I think.

Parrish forward makes me giggle.

Parish deserves to be in the 22 but not as a forward. It makes me furious when they put genuine midfielders as forwards to fit extra mids in the side.

Exactly, should be in for sure. You can kind of get away with it sometimes but he's kicked 5 goals for the year no one will buy it.

And Brayshaw must be close to the second best true winger.

Reiwoldt while On the Coach recognised the re emergence of the role of wingers and will pick them ahead on ballers as part of his AA selector role ... was also positive about lingers chances

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
