Gee, he even moves a bit like Lever from that footage.

No way Maynard is worth a first. A second should get it done if there's genuine interest.

Pick 36?

Maybe A&F meant Weid for Collingwoods 2nd & Maynard

Each to their own, but I don't think we'll be stupid enough to trade a first rounder for a B grade half back.

I like Maynard, he's a nice player, but you don't give up a first rounder for a player of his type.

He'll need to be to come into a new zonal defence and learn how we want to play. I've thought this is the toughest thing about bringing in someone mid season. How do they adjust to the system the team is playing? Will be fascinating to see how he goes at Casey.

Thanks as always for the insights mate.

I hope the club hope neither of these will be needed in 2021.  Brought in as insurance / back up.

Yes, but why bring in a 19 year old... He will be on the list - barring unacceptable behaviour/standards - in 2022.

Looking at Daniel 's highlights There's no doubt he looks like Jeremy McGovern clone,

His delightfully casual but so cool and composed marking plus peeling off with an elite disposal without any delay have got Gov written all over him.

I loved Harrison Perry's highlights from Draft Day 1 and have had to be patient up to now for Harry to get his chance. He has improved with every game so far and looks every bit as good as I hoped Have earmarked  Petty as a KPD since then.

Daniel Turner looks  like another quick learner and even the  slightly overweight bit is Jeremy Gov to a tee. Looks a natural and if I was Marty Hore my chsnce is well under threat.
Also  he is 194cm now taller than listed apparently. Plays and marks tall  looking at the highlights.

Welcome to our new Defender to join our elite group already developing .

Will also allow Declase to play mid /wing maybe  or up forward as a pinch hitter.

Lot to like about these 2 selections and JT May have nailed another 2 gems from his kitbag.

Won't die wondering I dont think.

All jokes aside, he looks like he has the Jeremy mcgovern chesty build

Spot on see my post later on Page3.

Maybe JT judged that he wouldn't make it through until our turn, and thought he should snap him up when we could.

The big men always take longer to develop, Gawny is the best example and look at him now!

Maybe Carlton could have benefitted from your insight before the last trade period?

The cost should be similar to Hibberd, Melk, Langdon...as you say a 2nd rounder, or commensurate trade.

They always paid overs...and for 2 of them.

This and we get him now, we don't need to use a Draft pick on him in November, he gets 6 months developing with the best defensive unit in the AFL.

I like the balance of the picks, a mature player that might push for selection and a young player that can be developed.  One eye on the now and one on the future.

We've needed to get a young key defender on our list to develop, so this pick made a lot of sense. Sounds like someone who reads the play well and makes good decisions, which is exactly what we want in a player who will be part of a defensive unit.

Agree monoccular Strategic we now have our medium- tall backs covered in case Petty or one of the pillars get injured, it is going to be a long campaign.

192cm or just under 6’4”.?

Yeah, but how tall is his height??

And how many centimetres is he, vertically?

I read that players were able to specify a minimum 2 season deal in place of the usual 6 months.

Any idea of the length of contract for these two draftees.

How's he going to survive if he's not good enough to play at VFL,  SANFL, or WAFL level?

He's not.

The VFL is for development. If they are up to scratch and develop well they progress, if not they drop off our list and most likely go back to playing a lesser standard post football.

Ovens and Murray league wouldn't be that far behind these competitions.  For a 19 yo to hold his own in that league he will be able to hold his own at VFL level.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
