Makes sense. Our defence has been our strength, but it’s also the most susceptible if we cop another injury or two on top of Tomlinson.

Yes. Also played for us in the practise match v Bulldogs, where he Smith & Majak were vying for 2 spots on our list.

Big unit

So does Kye stop playing for Werribee and now play for Casey?

Yes

Yes, but it's at Werribee's discretion as to whether he plays against them if the sides play, and he returns to them for finals if he's delisted.

Depending on the fixture, it is possible that he plays against the same team two games in a row.

Is he the guy who trained with us earlier in the year. Mark Williams must know all about him

Yes he is

I don't really see it with this pick.

Clearly a talented player who's doing well at VFL level, but he looks flashy and outside, rather than the type of player who can step in as depth.

If we're to get a key defensive injury we don't need a skilled player to step in, we need someone who can contest and do a defensive job.

A former local footy forward who plays as a utility tall doesn't really fit the bill to me.

And plus his sir name has Declase, or from here on in Deeclase?

welcome to the melbourne family?

Anyone know Kye's heritage?

That's the complete opposite from what many on here was suggesting just 6 months ago Re the sort of players we needed.  How times change.

Though, I somewhat agree that for a guy we recruited to fill a backline depth venerablility most of his highlight real is in the front half.

Looks like a capable enough unit and will be interesting to see what a few more months on an AFL list can do for him - best of luck Kye.

Well you can't get past the media these days they got the picks spot on.

The highlights package of him doing a ‘defensive job’ was probably quite boring...

I am guilty of judging from the highlights but even reading between the lines of JT’s comments, he’s been flashy but inconsistent so far in his VFL career.

I like the upside and who knows what he can be with some time in the system. I’m just not convinced he’s the right type to bring in mid year. It’s really hard to come in to a club mid season, adapt to full time footy, learn a new system and then perform if you get a chance.

Hi Declase clan. Welcome to the family.

Would love some insight into your families reaction to him being drafted and whether he knew he would be picked up.

Your boy looks a real unit. What side of the family does he get his sporting ability from?

Go Dees.

assuming this Twitter poster is on here... well done you ?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
