They’re flying having won less than 50% of games played.

Also every match they play is a shoot out. Their defence is rock solid.

Not bloody wrong. These teams are always so hard. Ive always thought most people get caught picking a "these are the best 22 players for the year, let's fit them in a side" vs "best by position"

4 pure midfielders on the bench for example

I know this is unofficial but surely May couldn’t miss out again this year.

Pretty funny that the reaction to this has been "Not enough Demons". I remember the days when even one Demon in a mock squad of 40 would get me excited!

I've been following this column throughout the year and for what it's worth, I think the inclusions of Salem and Fritsch are a bit reactive based on their last 2 games. I'd also agree with their assessment that May is outside the team for the moment - he essentially missed 2 whole games with the injury and has had 1 or 2 quiet-ish games. Otherwise, it's hard to argue with the other selections. Let's see if we can keep this up...

How May continues to be underestimated by the whole footy community is amazing to me. Current form (i.e. last 18 months), at least as good as Rance in his prime.

Sshhhh!

Agreed regarding Salem and Fritta. I would have Lever, May, Max, Langdon, Trac, and Oliver. Yes he’s missed a couple of games, I think he had a quiet against North, what was the other one?

Agree re Fritsch, but Salem is sixth in the AFL Coaches Award (ahead of both Oliver and Petracca).

He is the number 1 ranked small forward on champion data in 2021

According to Gerard Healy, Kozzie is the no. 1 , and the no. 2 and no. 3 small forwards have the same name - Daylight!

I reckon his game against the Giants was good without being great. He was mismatched against Greene for some of the night, who almost broke the game open. And even against the Tigers, he didn't dominate; he was lucky that Lynch missed a few easy goals. That's not to say he's not having a good season, but All Australian demands consistent excellence.

May very stiff.

Salem hasn’t just had a good couple of weeks. His season has been top notch. Of all Melbourne players who deserve a spot in the side right now he’d be top 3.

You couldn't be more wrong with Salo Look at the Coaches awards  etc And votes in the papers and he is in the top 20 in all.

Best season by far and consistent.

Fritta (and Kossie )  are worthy averaging 3 and 2 goals per game.and being super consistent,.

All the others pick themselves.

Jake Niall on the Age Footy Podcast after our Richmond win said we had the best list in the SFL and he is not far wrong.

Add Kossie May Viney Jacko Brayshaw Tmac Rivers Hibbo Tomlinson BBB and you have at least 8/9 A graders and the rest are B+ graders or above.

And most are  in career best form and fitness.
Long may it continue.

Salem has been bloody magnificent all year. A revelation actually, compared to his previous output.

A walk up start for an A.A half back spot.

Started to come good about Round 13/14 in the hub last season.

Realized  he could no longer Just one pace medium and do a funky 25m kick yo be valuable to the team.

Started impacting game with pace and urgency plus 45/50m lucks That still  found teammates!!!

Saw it with my own eyes vs GWS when he starred at the Gabba with Langers and Spargo and Rivers on the Members side of the ground  getting us up by 4 pts. In that epic game.

Ever since has been  A standard and I prefuctedvtjis in my posts pre season as one of our improvements along with Spargsy and Tommo down back.

Also said that Jacko Kossie and Riv had huge upside in their second year!

Some had criticised this view but I stood firm on our improvement Which I think has even surpassed my expectations!

Lets hope it's a permanent standard as we all love the stars shining each week plus the contract signingS of our Mostly A and a couple of B+ graders this season

Long may it live well beyond 2021!!!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
