I just can't bring myself to be truly happy in the same week as Viney is injured and Tomlinson's soul got stepped on and thrown in the garbage by the cruel uncaring footy gods.

We have no point of defence for this so just be glad we are not walking around wearing umbrellas as slippers.

Also, we have been waiting a while so we are reassessing what we expect to happen almost weekly - and that is going to end in tears one way or the other...

Had we been told in 2019 that come 2021, we would have experienced a worldwide pandemic and the Demons on top of the ladder after 7 rounds, it wouldn’t have been the pandemic that would have surprised us the most.

We will win every game this year. I couldnt be more positive about our magnificent team.

Is that better?

On fire Ding, careful not to swallow that tongue in your cheek!!!

Undefeated and on top of the ladder, but there's very little excitement on demonland.  Have we all been so deeply scarred that we're expecting this bubble to burst in a spectacular way?

I’m 100% with you od, but I will admit to a smidge of Shiraz influence right now.
Having said that, Monday is one of my two wine-free nights, but I decided to ignore my GP, and have a tiny tipple because we are 7 zip and on top of the bloody ladder!

Just taking a deep breath here. We had a scare against a lowly team, we now have a couple of important injuries, and there’s a long way to go yet. There’s bound to be a few bumps and blips on the road to come.

I’m really enjoying footy at the moment, but I’ll be burnt out by the end of the year if I stay excited the whole time.

Try a blue pill

This is me on the morning of an MFC game. Simply known as MFCSS.

Excited? Yes. Absolutely. We’re 7-0 and our best football is clearly flag worthy.

But sure as [censored] keeping the lid on. There are 15 games to go and every second game post-bye is on the road and/or against a flag contender.

I’m not getting carried away as the Swans are up and about. We’ve got a good brand of footy, and other than Sunday, we are mostly keeping our shape. We know the Swannies are going to come out hard but if we can apply some early scoreboard pressure that should set us up for a good game. Weed, Petty and Harmsy are training the house down, so we have got a bit of coverage and they should be able to come back in and help us maintain our structures. As long as we play our way the scoreboard will take care of itself.

My guess, if top of ladder, we are not acting like it is the bottom.

Okaaay. I’m none the wiser.

Been here before and learnt a lesson.

Back in the early 00s we were top of the ladder after 18 rounds for the first time since 1964 (when there were only 18 games in a season). Then we lost three(?) in a row and missed out on the double chance.

My time for celebration will only come with a cup in our hands.

Forgive my seeming thickheadedness but I still don’t get it.

Enjoy being top, we are not the bottom, nor wearing uncomfortable type footwear.

On top of the ladder at 7-0,  Fritsch free to play vs the Swans and Petracca signs a 7 year deal.

Have to say the much hoped-for and unexpected Fritta freedom has taken the edge off, and I'm feeling a lot better about the world now.

Just enjoying the wins?wearing our colours out and about, cost me $$$ in Melbourne merch, so it's nice to be wearing them and showing them off, then sitting in wardrobe?

There’s a part of me that fully expects us to miss the 8, have Jackson leave to go home and we get found out for doping... I can’t help it.

Feels a bit too good to be true?

Personally, I can't wait to see what our overall W/L record against the better sides ends up at (Port, Lions, Dogs, Swans & Eagles to come)

Of course we've beaten the Cats & Tigers so there's 2 notches on the belt

It's certainly unfamiliar territory (being on top undefeated) so maybe that explains the subdued reaction

Our reaction would almost certainly be different if a large percentage were expecting a big start to the season

At a guess I reckon 85%+ of the supporters were apprehensive about our chances this year.  Finals a real possibility but 16+ wins?

We need to finish off with 9 & 6 record to get to 16 wins.  And that type of record to finish off the season proper doesn't seem all that difficult from where we sit right now

In 2004: Lost the last four home-and-away games after sitting top of the ladder after Round 18 (including against a hapless Carlton) before slipping to 5th and losing to Essendon by under a kick in an elimination final...

In 2005: Sitting right up near the top half-way through the season before losing 7 in a row, ultimately retrieving ourselves and sneaking into the 8, albeit insignificantly and with a bit of luck along the way...

In 2006: We played Adelaide at Football Park in the last round of the season. Adelaide all of a sudden copped a significant number of injuries to key players, such that we went into that game hot favourites. A win would have put us in the top 4. We got smashed.

2018: The Preliminary Final was over in the first 10 minutes of the game. You knew it sitting in the stadium.

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.
