both teams denied the other the corridor and played the boundary.

Thought Dogs would be smarter but the boundary/handballing won them the Cup in 2016

Only saw last half and the tiges played just like demons last week. Could have been wearing red and blue.

Defence set up . Forward pressure. Tigers showed dogs weaknesses and dees should take great confidence we have the personnel and system  to take the points in Round 11.

Agree, their system fell apart. No direction on their kicks, fumbles and missed tackles. Won the clearances in the first half then the Tigers got them in the second half. Both of them had trouble scoring. 

Bont missing the half-time goal. Not hungry enough, and couldn't seize the moment. We cracked them and nearly broke them. Dogs could have ripped them apart. They didn't and we have a chance of being the last one standing at this stage of the season.

Yep there was no resistance at all after Halftime 

That was so unexpected 

The tigers were far more intense at the opening of our game than tonights.  We broke them, the dogs didn't in a far less tense game and simply grounded them down in the tigers fashion.

The Dogs have a few out but gee that have some glaring weaknesses! Ruck, key position players, half forward flankers...

Their midfield was smashed in the second half. Struggled big time in clearances. Their pressure around the ball completely dropped off as well and they stopped flicking the handballs around, and instead kicked long to the Richmond defenders.

It's clear the handball game with careful ball use by foot is how you beat Richmond. I thought the Bulldogs were close to terrible and certainly impotent after half time.

It was a very Hannan game. Applied a bit of forward pressure in bursts, took a good pack mark, found the ball inside 50 a couple of times and that was it. He's still way too inconsistent for a 27 year old. I wouldn't have him in my team. Sorry, Mitch.

I felt Richmond applied a lot more pressure pressure for longer against us.

They broke the Dogs with sustained pack mentality type pressure they simply couldn't handle, we bypassed and absorbed their press/squeeze/pressure jam what ever spin you like to call it.

We manouvered the ball around like no Melbourne team i have seen. We have unbelievable speed now in our line up on every line.

We have set-ups and a back to front systems that stands up to the best. We take huge grabs in every part of the ground, with the likes of Gawny, Tmac, Action, Fritta, Lever, Maysie, Tomlinson and Now Big Ben we have unbelievable Marking ability.

True but in the meantime, let’s not fall for the notion that beating the Tigers is a significant achievement. The real indicator of a team’s strength is how they go against North Melbourne. The Dogs set the benchmark against them at Marvel Stadium in Round 3 and I doubt that we can come close to emulating that performance.

In 2004 we were first after 18 rounds. The deepest in a season that we'd been first since 1964. All the talk was about us. I think we were briefly flag favourites. Then Adelaide pumped us by 12 goals. We lost 4 in a row to end the season and were knocked out in the finals by Essendon. The most Melbourne way to end a season ever.

I reckon it was Port that absolutely flogged us in round 19 2004 after we were top of the  ladder.

Adelaide also made a mess of us that year but it was mid season.

They actually remind me of a more advanced 2018 MFC, and should look to what we did to make our defence the best in the comp for 2 months. Namely move English into defence to intercept and absorb pressure as a back half ruck, when they're battling a momentum swing and let Martin be the forward half ruck.

Nankervis is the only reason we're not talking about Port as the defending champions and the team to beat.

Perhaps they need to bring in Ugle Hagan, lessen the strength of their forward line to bolster defence and let him learn on the job. They will get found out eventually though in the last week's of September given they go to water defensively and can't contain big margins. Even in 2019 we were never blown off the park, the way they get beaten, they really get beaten.

The doggies folded last night when the pressure came on. The first time they were challenged this year and they failed the test badly. I thought the doggies were the team to beat but on the basis of last night i think they're down hill skiers. Look a million dollars against the suns and north but exposed against a good team.

They'll be in the mix for a Top 4 spot but they lost a lot of fear factor last night for mine.

As well as telling us that the doggies are flaky I think last nights game also reminded us that Richmond are still a very capable side. Talk of their demise is premature. They’ll be a force this year.
