    I’ve seen plenty of flaky Demons teams but I genuinely think our present team is different. All players are playing well but it’s the system and structure that is really holding up. We've been challenged a few times and responded on each occasion. We will beat North handily

    At the start of the season I’m sure our aim was just to make finals,  but now should be aiming higher and give ourselves the best chance we’ve had in a long long time to win a premiership ?

    Staying Top 4 should be our home and away season priority then reset come finals time for a tilt at the flag.

    Even if our midfield is beaten by Norths which is highly unlikely, our unstoppable backline would repel everything anyway.

    This should be identical to the VFL game, a 100+ point walk in the park.

    Plus with the amount of players North have out nevermind how bad they are anyway - I mean I've seen stranger things happen but if we drop this I'd be stunned.

    Agreed, it’s not everything. But it’s also not nothing. At the very least it will serve as a confidence boost for the players. And for all those little kids, the mini Dees fans, who’ve seen no joy, top of the ladder would mean the world imo.

    Bulldogs won 3 games against garbage. Not surprised Richmond beat them. Could be downhill for that lot.

    Although,alas, they and Stkilda are still media pets .Stkilda are a great side apparently.

    Media in a frenzy over STAR Collingwood player de goey returning for todays blockbuster against the Suns. Nothing changes.

    Not getting too ahead of ourselves are we!? I can't even remember the last time the Demons were on top of the ladder!

    I am keeping a lid on it.

    We haven't even beaten the Kangaroos yet! It will still be a tough game down in Hobart where we have never won.

    I have been disappointed so many times before that I cannot bring myself to be overly confident for any game. 

    I am hopeful that the Demons win...but I also hope the players aren't getting enamoured with their own hubris.

    Be humble and take it one game at a time Demons!

    It would mean a fair bit to me. 45 years of systematic trauma, mounting therapy bills, PTSD and ritualistic abuse; top of the ladder certainly counts for something. I've been conditioned to take any small morsel of food that falls on the ground from the Jolimont dining room table.

    Partially agree, but finishing to 2 also means a guaranteed home final which does have some value associated with it.

    Absolutely pinching myself about the position we are presently in.  Normally at this point in the season I'm looking ahead in the fixture to see who plays who and who we can beat just to edge ourselves into the top 8 after a horror or mediocre start to the season.  Right now that's all kind of irrelevant and it's about which are the few sides that are on papper and form good enough to push us and present as genuine danger games. 

    That might sound kind of arrogant, but to me it's a reflection of the tallent we have been building and the attitude and cohesion which we are presently playing with, which has finally come together.  The maturity with which the team is playing, I  really don't feel like there is much risk of us being beaten by poor or mediocre sides.  It's a nice place to be, but pretty unfamiliar territory I must say.  Maybe this is what it feels like to support a team that's actually a strong and well coached like supporters of some opposition teams must have felt like in the past.

    I hear you RBG.  I guess i was just making the point that we look at what's ahead step by step if/when we arrive at the next level.  There are advantages to top two for sure but there's so much work ahead before setting ourselves for that as well as about 14 other clubs seeing themselves as a chance of still making a fist of it if things go their way.

    We also need some continuing luck with injuries.  Pretty much a full list to choose from atm which is always a handy leg up.

    Yep my kids are hoping like hell we get up tomorrow so they can go to school on Monday and proudly let everyone know the Demons are top of the ladder

    Can't really see us losing to the Swans, Crows, Blues or North. so backing us to be 10-0 going into a game against the dogs, whom i also think we're better than. 

    I know we shouldn't be getting ahead of ourselves but this does feel a bit more safe than past Melbourne sides

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

      Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions.
