Oh forgot to mention the Hibb.  Superb job on Dusty forward (again) and JJ very good as well when he was on him early at centre bounces.  Dusty never really got off the leash and going.

EDIT:  In all the excitement i forgot the big fella.  What a game big boy!

So much agro from Tigers....sniping acts from Lynch, Edwards and a few others.....on the ball and off the ball

Seems a few teams have tried this tactic Geelong and Hawthorn especially hoping to unsettle us....but we always hold firm.

....we never do it though and we dont need to.

We are the hunters.

In the interests of moderator transparency - I’ve deleted a couple of my own posts and those that quoted me. I was legitimately intending to diffuse what I thought was unwarranted negativity but instead inflamed it. I never thought I’d see the day where I was accused of being the negative one?

This was a fantastic moment tonight. I was genuinely buzzing after the game. I reckon we can all take extra confidence out of this. Richmond are quality and didn’t let us grind them in to the dirt like Hawthorn did, but make no mistake, from 10 minutes on we were in complete control. I think we can all agree that it really feels like there’s something special amongst this group. I can’t remember the last time I started looking forward to the next game as soon as the game finished. I’d forgotten what it felt like to love footy but I’m there again.

Man ..... Tonight was brilliant.
Didn't want it to end.
Wanted to make the whole football world keep watching us dismantle them.
We're comin' MoFo's.

I reckon we could bring in both Brown and Weed and keep playing Jacko in ruck with Max and Tommy as a winger and occassional foray into the forward line with Kossie and Spargo as our smalls.

Absolute rubbish.
Tommy isn't a winger he is a key position player ie FF or CHF.

And a beast and a competitor in the same mould that Mark McLure was in  those great Carlton sides in 1979, 81 and 82: Makes Kossie ANB and Charlie play taller.

Move him at your peril !!

That  doesn't mean BBB or Weid aren't good enough.

WHAT A WIN  AGAINST TOP OPPOSITION AND WE WON COMFORTABLY. GET ON THE PREMIERSHIP TRAIN. WAS I THE FIRST ONE TO SAY WE WILL WIN THE PREMIERSHIP? GREAT TEAM EFFORT AND I ALSO TOO THINK THAT SALEM WAS ROBBED OF THE MEDAL. BIG BENNY BROWN WILL BE THE GREATEST VFL PLAYER OF ALL TIME. WE CAN'T DROP ANYONE AND WITH A FAVOURABLE MONTH AHEAD WE COULD BE 10 AND 0. NOT EVEN I THOUGHT THIS COULD HAPPEN GO YOU GOOD THING DEES!

From now on, any team except WB is beatable for this Melbourne team, we'll meet them twice in Rd11 and Rd20, they are really good.

Anyway, go Dees !!!

Is there a chance that someone can post up that Max Gawn onslaught through the square virtuoso?

As it was happening I was muttering out loud  'What the hell is going on?!!!' A bloke built like Max isn't supposed to play like that.  It was impossibly brilliant

I'm not sure I've ever seen a greater team-lifting effort.  You couldn't help but be inspired if you were a fellow player

Amongst numerous other highlights that was my standout moment.  Set the standard and we were never going to lose from that moment

"Get used to it Melbourne supporters!"  These were the words yelled out by a fool of a Richmond supporter after each goal kicked by his team at the start of the game. I was regretting giving money to this sorry lot when they were rattling the tins for the Save Our Skins campaign when they were down and out all those years ago. Would these arrogant twerps have done the same for us? I doubt it.

By the end of the second quarter the fool had gone quiet and the rain had driven him away because it must have been diluting his beer, and YES, us Melbourne supporters were getting used to it. Getting used to our team giving the Tigers a football lesson, demonstrating a hunger and ferocity for the ball which was super exciting to watch.

Is this it? Is this the team to bring the ultimate success? I think they believe they are. Confidence is a beautiful thing.

Tonight I sat in the rain and witnessed something beautiful.  And I am getting used to it. This was a great win.

Just trudged home as [censored] as a mule from Eltham Station.

It was a bizarre experience tonight. I went in slightly nervous, but un-Melbourne like calm before the game. I expected a loss but was prepared to wear it knowing we were 5-0. I just wanted a strong performance and to get within 3 goals

In the first 15 minutes I prepared myself for the absolute worst and for a barrage for messages from Tigers mates who I had been baiting all week.

Well...FMD. All of a sudden the feeling I’ve had for the past 5 weeks overwhelmed me. The feeling of confidence in knowing the boys would apply relentless pressure at all times causing turnovers, in-turn linking up and hitting targets just warmed the cockles.

We actually made Richmond look stupid. They didn’t even look like scoring and when they did we had an extra man back to mop up their disgusting bile.

Hats off to all the boys on tonight’s effort. Christian Salem should have won the medal but well done to Trac.

Special mention to the young boys Dogga who (in my opinion) changed the game in the second and Rivers. Both ahead of their time.

Go you Demons! I’m off to eat dim sims and burnt chips.

I am almost 34 years old. I've gone week in, week out for 27 or 28 of those years. This might sound a bit ridiculous, but I think that was the best win I've ever seen. Not only were we 5-0 going into it, it was a massive game, against a side that has won 3 flags in 4 years, and they were almost at full strength (minus Prestia), and we stood up. So very un-Melbourne like in my life time.

I went to Perth for the prelim in 2018 and midway through the first quarter it felt very reminiscent. Their pressure was excellent and they were all over us. We really took a long time to get going, but our incredible structure behind the ball kept us in it. Then by the start of the second quarter we had the game on our terms. Their stars had less than 10 possessions to half way through the third. Martin included. We simply strangled them defensively and made them pay when we went forward.

Salem was extraordinary when we were slow early and I had him second behind Petracca by the end of the night. But Oliver was brilliant, Viney played his best game for the season, Tomlinson, Lever, May, Hibberd, Rivers, our whole back six really was immense. Our forward pressure was finals like and certainly elite for much of the game. Max played a great game too and I felt he comfortably beat Nankervis.

There was a passage in the last minute or so of the game where Richmond looked for all money like they'd score, but we laid repeat tackles and then saw the ball out of play. The game was won, but this play typified our night and to be honest our season thus far. We simply weren't prepared to allow them a score, even in the dying minutes when the game was over. That speaks of a focus and a mental maturity, now six weeks running, that I've never seen in a Melbourne side before.

It was a complete team performance. Melksham potentially the only one whose position might be in trouble, but he was handy on a few occasions too.

So proud of my football side tonight. Keep playing like this and my boy will grow up watching a really good football team. Oh yeah. And he's six and zip!!

Magical evening at my favourite place in the world. It felt like pre-covid days, with all the MFC supporters crammed into the northern side of the ground and a great atmosphere.

Memorable night for many reasons, but Spargo’s pressure, tackling and chasing was off the charts early.

This tackle midway through the first woke the team up and helped turn the game.

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
