It will be interesting as we have signed up our core group for an extended period.

Perhaps this will be a free hit to pick up mature role players or overlooked young draftees?

With Joel Smith & Marty Hore both out with long term injuries as well as no obvious replacement for Bailey Fritsch available last week, our lack of depth at the moment seems to be in mid sized players. Those 186-190cm types who can are good in the air, but also good at ground level and are ideal 3rd tall options.

Ideally we need someone who can play either end and can slot into our system seamlessly, whichis why I would nominate Mitch White at Casey.

He's only 25, spent three years on our list previously, can play at either end and is about 188cm tall. Given he captain's Casey, we should be able to delist him at seasons end without issue also. My thoughts anyway.

There are credible reasons to consider Mitch White from Casey.

The fella can play footy consistently well and in the bigtime, might be a valuable asset either end of the field - with heaps of improving experience gathered through the Casey School of Incredible Footballing Talent.

His career places him as the sole 'Learnings' beneficiary of his favourite coaching influence. His game in all seriousness has improved considerably and his attitudes and efforts are first-rate. An exampe-setter.

According to this bloke on Twitter, one of the best for Vic Country in the Colgate game was Kobi George who is also a Melbourne NGA. Quite interesting that our NGAs are attracting attention at the moment.

Do we know if Kobi George elected to stay in our NGA as a 19 year old? He might not get a look in at the MSD but could be worth a look come the national draft if we get him with the discounts?

I reckon we could use another ruckman to be honest, so one of those spots i'd be having a look at some ruck depth.

Wouldn't mind GA jr slotting into the side to help our run into finals, won't happen but would be good to watch.

But we have plenty of rucks in Daw, Jackson and Max. I think we have someone else too but cant recall. Suffice to say We have enough.

Id look at midfield and a small defender.

Probably last chance to bring big bad slamming Sam Baulderstone to the club. Otherwise, your loss Demons.

for me, eyes on kobi george a member of our NGA and joel trudgeon a former teammate of mine, at the time he played FB and was only 16 getting roles on BKing, Fish McAsey and others and holding his own nowadays plays as a tall mid but is super athletic intreested in how he goes.

and Mutaz El Nour caught my eye due to his size and weight matching up pretty nicely for the type of player we might be interested in as well as being 1/3 players in the vfl not the nab league

Im worried that Fish could be a bit on the nose!

I've been keen on Kobi for a while now. He is the son of Doveton legend David George one of the smoothest players I've ever seen at suburban level. There were a few that were surprised pre-season that we went for Deakin Smith when both were seen to be level pegging ability wise. He may be a late maturer and one to keep an eye on.

I would probably go for Langdon’s twin brother.

His sister would be more my style, but each to his own.

I think more pace and run is needed, especially to combat the power and Bulldogs.

If we could recruit a clone of Ed Langdon but who is a left footer.  From watching the Cats last night, Isaac Smith would have been perfect addition (still p/off he chose the Cats).

I was ok with Smith as a free agent target. Then when he chose the Cats, he was “dead to me “.  Moved onto Phillips.
Watching the power v dogs tonight, I reckon we still need more pace through the midfield.  Another runner and good distributor type. Highly skilled.  Not sure they’re available in mid year draft but that’s the target.  Ah yes, our other mid year choice could be a tall defender as backup.

There’s some interest from the Crows in South Adelaide’s Hayden Sampson, a 20 year old outside midfielder. He’s the son of Clay Sampson who played for Melbourne in the mid 90s, moved to Adelaide and played in their first premiership and finished at Richmond.

The last paragraph in this AFL.com article is pretty interesting. Giving both the club, and prospective players the chance to negotiate short terms before signing is quite progressive, and hopefully it will enhance the reputation of the mid season draft. Whether you're an elderly last-chance-salooner who fits a particular need for a team, or an overlooked young bloke who backs himself in to snaffle an opportunity, I reckon this is a good step forward for the league.

Zac Foot, Kobi George and Kobe Farmer all in for the MSD

i think the only players taken will be 5-7 19yo's by the developing bottom sides and then a couple of depth big men. mid sized players would have to be playing out of their skin ie Nathan Freeman levels to have a chance (interesting he hasn't nommed yet) as clubs would surely prefer to blood players already on their list if they lose a senior player to injury

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
