Daw did not look fit or like he was saving something for after the game. Bedford is knocking on the door for 1st selection. Weids is a sure thing against Richmond. Brown needs another week. Jetta needs to wait and see how our backline in the ones goes to regain selection.

Thanks for all the reports. Great to have so many players pushing for senior selection but I hope we are cautious bringing them through. There has always been a big difference VFL to AFL but given the non-season last year for VFL, that gulf is bigger than ever.

Daw.  Not on that game ordinary!

thought many others

much better

Was impressed with what I saw by Deakin Smith too, very lively down back.

Anyone know where I can watch the Casey replay?

I thought Daw's ruck work was solid all game.

He was very ordinary all day I thought. On form weid a must with bedford next in line. Brown/chandler also staked their claim but not sure how we could fit them in at the moment.

He did not dominate in any way,

and if he gets a game in the ones it would surprise me.

does Casey nominate the days best

I thought bowey, rosman, Bedford, Weid and brown and number 68. Gray ?
Bradke and VdB and chandler and I apologise for others all better

Lockhart and Deakyn Smith were fantastic. Bowey found a good amount of the ball but was a tad sloppy. He will be a player though.

We have some nice replacements options coming through for the aging Hibbo and Jetta.

Forgot Deakin and Jetta I

Agree totally !!  Never shirks it and ...... remarkably ... has got back to his feet after some horrific whacks !

Thanks for all the reports greatly appreciated sounds like we were on top all day , great first game. We are going to be spoilt for choice with so many great options heading into the season proper. Well done Casey Demons.!!!!

Thanks for the reports guys.

For those that watched it what positions did Weid and BBB play.  Did Weid play full forward (out of the goal square) or did they change it up.

TMac seems to be playing further up the ground so it probably makes sense if Weid play close to goal if he comes in.

Mainly BB playing the deeper role.

Weid got most from heavily contested positions.

Great games but remember the opposition played their best but many not in the same league.

That being said you couldn't ask much more of either of them.

Majak may become my favourite VFL player

The ladder after Round 1. This is the nature of the VFL in 2021. There are 22 teams and 16 rounds played. This won’t last.

Best result apart from the Demons would have to be Carlton losing at home by 1 point to Southport after leading all day.

I watch some of the game and I was more impressed with Deakyn Smith than Bowey.

He may be the small defender like Neville Jetta was 3 years ago.

  • GAMEDAY: Western Bulldogs

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
