I'm expecting the "Essendon have gone past us" post any minute now. They're beating them by 50 points to half time whereas as we could over mange the 18 point win to full time.

Actually, when i put it like that. I think Essendon have gone past us.

Saints were playing bruise free footy, 1 tackle in the first 20 minutes of the game, 1 tackle in the first 10 or 15 minutes of the 2nd q. Essendons kids were able to run rings around them, was like a training drill. Something not right down at Moorabbin..

The "Academy". An entire state to draft from with an AFL funded coaching system and a guarantee of the best players from the most populous state in the country.

This is like when 6-6-6 was introduced - the teams that adapted and practiced their game plan changes for the new rules (man on the mark, fewer interchanges and kick-in marker set further back) will reap the rewards with very good early wins.

It will take time for teams that haven't adapted game plans, to catch up by which time their season may be lost.  Most of last year's finalists look to be in the slow to adapt category.  Bulldgos, Swans, Adelaide Eagles and Demons seem to have adapted well.  Good opportunity for us to bank a few more early wins before competitors catch up.

Some of those academy kids have been in the Swans system since they started high school. Makes sense that they can hit the ground running.

Swans have always been good at developing players.

Our youngsters are developing just fine. Sparrow and Jordon have been very steady for us. Spargo maturing nicely. Rivers will be a gun. Likewise LJ. Wouldn't swap Kossie Pickett for any of theirs.

Bizarre round. The positive thing for the demons is that our defence is very good. Hopefully that will stop teams getting a run on us and we can grind teams down with behinds ?

A bit like 2018, if we can avoid any big blowouts this year our % could be worth 4 points in itself come round 23.

Hopefully, it lulls Ess into a false sense of security and a belief that they have a great game plan.  They have no defence and strong defence is what will define games this season.  They are still a bottom six side..

The next three games should bring them back down to earth:  Swans, Lions, Pies.  With a bit of luck they will be 1W:5L

Carlton and Fremantle is an interesting game today.    Blues starting 0-3 would be a disaster for them after they have been pumped up all summer by the media and their fans.  They have had some luck though with Fyfe out today for the Dockers.

Blues have bought Eddie Betts back... seems like a sign of desperation.

A Fyfeless Dockers to win this one to the tune of 11 points

Carlton doing it easy against poor opposition. Take freo out of perth and you have a side that is shizen. Be wary of our 2 wins this season.

No Fyfe today.

you have to wonder leaving walters in a forward pocket

without fyfe freo are just hopeless. i'd be swabbing the side after the game

Or Logue, Pearce, Hambling, Lobb, Banfield, Hill and others.

Looking like we’ll be one of the remaining three unbeaten teams by the end of the evening. Don’t remember when that happened last.

You just know they'll have us sweating out the game right to the end.

not really? he's been sub every week and they haven't had an injury to require activating him, thats just the luck of the gig no fault of his own

That could be the case, but in both games it was our poor conversion that made the games look close, not our structure and effort.  If we kicked straight the results would have been similar.

Another garbage game, watching Essendon have a big win and now possibly Carlton just reminds me of how much I despise both teams.

But but but he really showed “us” in his round 1 cameo...

Hawks vs Cats today.

Would be happy to see Hawks win just to watch Scott fume as the go 1W -2L and their season start to wobble.  But then they will come out with all guns blazing next week to make amends.  I reckon we can match their fury next week so will be barracking for Hawks.

Absolutely want the Hawks to win.  They are in with a big chance.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
