Great to get the win, always a good feeling getting the first 4pts in the bank.

Clearances need massive work.

21k is an embarrassment. Pull your fingers out Melbourne supporters.

Loved the look of Jackson and Pickett, will get better with experience. Petracca relatively quiet, must nail those simple set shots if you want to be the best. Lever and May incredible in defense and Jetta held up well also. Oliver 30 touches but what did he really do? A couple of nice things but needs to learn to punish

Will be much better once Brown and Weideman return. Undid a lot of good work with poor conversion although the Dockers let us off the hook a couple of times as well. Without Fyfe we probably win by another 3 or 4 goals though.

My impression of the game:

Our midfield needs serious work. We've lost our mojo. I fear that Goodwin can't project manage to a degree that consolidates both defense and midfield presence. When we dominated in the middle in the past we struggled to defend. We've slowly lost our midfield "oomph" but improved out defence coherence.

Delivery forward was perhaps the best it's been since 2018. We just couldn't capitalise.

We don't over use the ball as much but still get smoked in transition when we make an error. Richmond would have eaten us up today.

A win is a win and I'll take it but it felt like middle of the roads teams competing today. Just not that flash nor inspiring.

A win is a win but it was dreadful footy to watch. We got smashed in the middle.

Laid a nice multi for Clayton Oliver and Melbourne to win by 1-39 points.
Happy with the win, and just getting the 4 points.

I think will leave it til bit later to review our performance. That game was a lot to digest, good and bad!

So, I took a stroll on a fine Saturday through the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens to the MCG and caught up with some old friends.

There also happened to be a game on. Bonus! I know some people stayed away because they weren't comfortable in crowds and that's understandable. But things ran smoothly and we took our seats in time for the show.

And what a show it was. Yes it was frustrating at times, but that's Melbourne. Everyone was a bit rusty.

I had a ringside seat to witness a flying Kozzie nearly emulate the great Jeff Farmer. Lots to look forward to from this young player. He had the fans screaming with excitement. Saw the amazing Maysie take strong mark after mark and together with Lever repel the Dockers umpteen times. Saw the big Mac kick a booming goal from the Southern Grandstand. Breathtaking.

Trac and Tommy Mac must have had a bet to see who could break the goal post with their wayward shots on goals. Through the middle next time lads.

When is holding the ball not holding the ball? Answer: when a Fremantle player is given an eternity to find a team mate to throw it to.

Clarrie was closely tagged and once more not looked after by the umpires.

No matter, Melbourne won, the song was played, people were smiling and we didn't have to stay home to watch it on TV while it was played in Cairns or some other place. Win all round.

Top day for a ride to the Gee with a mate and to witness the return of the TMac.

Just took a screen shot of the Ladder too :)

Ok I'll take a win anytime...

BUT let's not DEELUDE ourselves

We are still quite a way of the pace, for example

1 Freo were absolutely injury riddled and played a good brand of footy!! Their ball movement was superior to ours on several occasions 2 resulted in goals!! Against Carlton and Pies on last two nights games and we would have lost I believe!

2 Our footskills are still a major concern, as are some of our handball options

3 Our Kicking for goal was a bad as Ive seen

4 Our connectivity from centre bounces is also a concern. I thought Max's center bounce work was shizzen

5 If we play like we did today Vs Saints we WILL lose bt 10 goals

Never too soon to start.

Great to have a first up win... but i still have no idea what "our brand" is supposed to look like.

Regardless of how it looked though, 4 points is 4 points.

I understand we need to grind out some wins while our forwards are out but the forward line wasn’t the issue. Our midfield got destroyed again. HorriblE stoppage work.

Ugly win but will take the 4 points any way we can.

Other than a few signs here and there, there was little mention of Covid. MCC was very relaxed. The Bull Ring also had people inside and not a mask in sight. Felt as relaxed in there as if I was back in southern NSW.

Yep and guess who is the new midfield coach? Usaaaay.

I dont get this grapple stuff , surely the idea is to create an option and let a dominant ruckman do the rest. I saw Clarry do this all the time today.? Really needs to be adressed, Hardly ever see Dusty do it and he is the benchmark!

People having a go at the crowd should take a pause.  I've seen 3 regular people over the last 2 weeks attempt to go out and socialise and come back shaking and crying.  Some kind of newly developed agoraphobia.  Unsuprising given the impending doom preaching of the last ~12 months.

Take the win, we controlled the game and some very good performances from some of the lesser lights in Spargo, Jordan, T Mac and Tomlinson particularly early.

Kozzie is going to give us lots of joy!

It's not just his creative game that I love it's also the brutality of his tackling that's beautiful to watch.

I'm sure he made his mum proud today.

Backline was sensational Jetta and McDonald's best games in a long time. Bring on the Saints.

Saw an old couple on the train today literally holding each other and moving away from anyone that got close.

There is genuine fear out there. And it's not just today. I see it every day on the train to work. People petrified and almost shaking to be near people. People need to calm the [censored] down and start living again. There ain't no COVID around.

Are Roost If Far and Dee Zee the same poster or is it just coincidence that they have the exact same avatar and posted one after the other?

I’m not Dee Zee

Just got back. Wowee what a game. Played a bit poorly in the second and third quarters, but still a win is a win. Nathan Jones played pretty well. Full points to T-Mac.

Was a bit annoyed about the ticketing system as I couldn’t bring a friend being only us members could sit together. Also I was out in the sun all day (until the clouds come in of course) and I burn easily.

Still a great day and so glad to win our first game. Hopefully that gives us some confidence to build on for 2021. Go Dees!

I think it’s the ticketing system. Members can’t sit with non-members, plus it’s an [censored] of a process to go through. Almost stopped me. Also, it doesn’t help that a lot have not been and will take a while to get in the habit. Hopefully will improve.

Been keeping low. Staying below the Covid cloud. Considering how much the world has changed in the last 12 months, it's good to know there is one thing that is constant - the nervousness one endures when watching the dees play. Another year closer to the terminal heart attack I'm expecting.

Sending a pm.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
