Only watched the last 10 minutes but Jackson must have been eating steaks for breakfast, steaks for lunch and steaks for dinner since the season ended.

Beat the team who have won 3 of the last 4 premierships.
Demon flag imminent.

Albeit a praccy game, pretty good hit out in the end. Great to knock off the tiggies no matter what the stakes, and a few positives to take out of it.

- Chandler showed a bunch

- Oliver showing he is still a class above

- Older heads showing they've still got more to give, much to the chagrin of many demonlanders

- Playing out the game and putting some pressure inside f50 when game was in the balance late

All in all a pretty great friday morning. Bring on round 1, Yum yum yum

I liked the bit where the score went over 90 points.

Lever, Trac, Oliver, Spagbol, Chandler all quite good.

Decent hit out with no injuries, can’t ask for much more.

Couldn't watch heaps but when i did get a chance to look and see, there was some great communication from the mids and the ruckman. More than a couple of clean takes and disposals without too much pressure, including a couple of breakaway opportunities, which is good to see.

Wow! The awareness from Trac and Clarry in traffic is sublime. Hope they have good health this season.

Great to see Clarry sprinting clear and kicking long

Pretty happy with that.  In particular the skills looked surprisingly solid for the start of the season.  Normally they'd be all over the place at this stage.

Also very nice to see some of the younger guys getting game time.  We have some very neat ball-users and decision-makers coming through.

I’ll take it, tigers especially for the first 3qtrs weren’t going easy, pleased to see tmac and Jetta looked much better than last year, Chandler and James Jordan looked like they might get some games this year based on this

Couldn't watch the game but after reading the gameday thread I am booking GF tickets with one hand and slitting my wrists with the other.  I assume the truth lies somewhere inbetween??

Continuing from previous game-day thread.

final term

1) Chandler given the all-clear to return and then snags one with a left-foot banana on the run. Hunt a key part of the transition goal. Chandler's three goals and tackle pressure will probably see him play round 1, subject to a solid effort against Dogs next week. We played four small up front and we still have Kossie to add to that group, so one will likely miss out Rd 1.

2) Tigers started playing kids - fresh legs versus inexperience so hard to say who had the bigger advantage.

3) We got a good run with umps - home game and no Tiger feral influencing decisions. Only bad call was when Chol got free on a highish spoil by Tomlinson.

Best three: 3) Gawn (easily), 2 Olly had a huge last quarter to snare this spot. 1) Lever - at least six intercept marks plus plenty of involvement down back. Trac good as well, but had horror 2nd term.

The truth is out there Scully.

Good hit out. We looked pretty solid, structurally. Up forward, McDonald and Jackson contested pretty well against a really good defensive intercepting team. Plus we were solid in the air in defence, with Lever and May looking threatening in the air. Obviously we're trading some speed (Hunt, Rivers) in defence for defensive solidity, but given the pace of the game that seemed to be a risk worth taking at the moment. Up forward, having Chandler just made us look better. His speed and finishing gives a nice balance to our small forwards, with Spargo being clever and industrious and Kossie being a bit more of a high end talent.

The new manning the mark rule played pretty well, as it encouraged teams to take risks and we got more even contests inside 50. It also looks like it will provide more opportunities to our hard running tall and medium forwards.

Guys I know it was only Richmond at near full strength but you can only beat what’s put in front of you.

Well, there was the mark to Baker that wasn't paid.  That was a bit of a shocker and Rivers was still having a go at the ump five minutes later.  Especially when the same ump paid a mark to Aarts shortly after where he never had control of the ball.

Good win by the dees especially against an all full premiership side. Chandler a real surprise packet. Gawn, Lever and Petracca fantastic.

ROUND 1 TEAM

B: HUNT, MAY, LEVER

HB: SALEM, TOMLINSON, RIVERS

C: LANGDON, PETRACCA, BAKER

HF: PICKETT, MCDONALD, CHANDLER

F: FRITSCH, JACKSON, SPARGO

FOLL: GAWN, OLIVER, VINEY

IC: BRAYSHAW, HARMES, JONES, JETTA

EMERG: SPARROW, JORDON, NEAL-BULLEN, VANDENBERG

Good to see the old mistakes, turnovers etc disappear after half time. Solid effort against the reigning premiers

Don't read the gameday thread. I accidentally did after a long offseason but immediately regretted it. It's an awful place purely designed for people to let off steam whilst not flooding the main board. You could almost call it Demonland 'quarantine'.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
