Melbourne are releasing a behind the scenes footage on last year's draft. Sorta similar to last year?

Can't wait to watch it!

They went high risk high reward with Rosman.

Given some of the training reports it could pay off big time, but a long way to go.

Love the conviction with Laurie and Bowey and I think both will play a bit this season. I'd see Bowey more half back/wing to start and I think Laurie and Pickett forward will be very dangerous.

Some really interesting insights from that which is surprising given they only show you what they want to show you.

Seems like we would have picked Holmes if he was not taken ahead of us.

But as Taylor said (multiple times) - we've got the 2 best kicks and decision makers in the draft in Bowey and Laurie.  Also said "they like footy more than anyone else - probably why they don't make mistakes"

I'd heard Bowey talked about as a halfback, small forward and winger.  Interestingly Taylor indicated he noticed some Sam Mitchell type qualities in Laurie too.

Plus Spargo

Happy days we got one! Thought they must have given it a miss this year

Shows how the AFL dragged it out.  Submitted Bowey and Laurie at the same time, then it was all strung out.

@dazzledavey36....Dazzle...we saw how the team agonised over Rosman or Carroll....what are your thoughts given your knowledge of the underage players?

I see Carroll ended up going as pick 41 to Carlton.

Carroll's from WA, so selecting a Victorian in Rosman at least negates any potential "go home" factor with that pick.

Goody seemed very sceptical about both Bowie & Laurie.

And also very glum, as has been pointed out quite a few times in the past 4 months or so.

Other than the fact that Fraser is doing everything right to gain the wing position opposite Langers in Round1.

I found this really interesting. Goody did not seem enthused at all, I'm guessing due to their size, and had to be reassured on their quality. Its good to know that the recruiters aren't easily over ridden though and their research and opinion are respected.

Also compared to last year it seems we weren't interested in trading up for any players in particular, although perhaps they just didnt include the footage to keep that intel in house.

The recruiters should have final say. Goody might not be around too much longer so he shouldn’t be making the end decision.

Just watched and I can get the sentiments around Goodwin's reactions. Even Tim Lamb having to give him a shoulder rub at the end?

Maybe he was annoyed we traded our 2021 first rounder to Brisbane and still missed out on the guy we targeted, Max Holmes.

no idea what you guys are on about. Goodwin openly said that he hadn't seen Jack Carroll even play. At no point did he even mention anything about wanting a certain player or not wanting a certain player. But if your'e the head coach I think it's fair enough to want to be 'in the discussion' when your club is making it's biggest decision of the year.

I hate Goodwin more than anyone but he's done nothing wrong here. You do get a snapshot of what Goodwin is like though. How does this guy motivate anyone to play afl football? The answer is..he doesn't.

Jason Taylor has been on record to say that we weren't as interested as the media made out to be on Max Holmes.

Laurie and Bowey were always first choice .

First track reports on players skill is like dancing with your sister. Wait till the real games start to see if someone has improved.

You need to lighten up 58er for God sake it is a game, if you cannot have a little humour about a game when can you ?

"I know its one of your things Goody but they love their footy, that's why they're so good and don't make mistakes"

" We got the two best kicks. And the two best decision makers"

"Could be a Sam Mitchel type"

I love this fly on the wall stuff. Great insight

They cut out the bits where SG said “you blokes are clueless f*ing morons”.
I’ll be lucky to see past mid season with these classy midgets in my team, I only want ball hungry  hacks”.
“FMD, Taylor! You should cop a bullet before me!”

Without wanting to speculate too much, pretty sure he had a bit going on, on the home front around that time...could explain a few things.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
