    Quite bizarre to step up for a press conference you are only having because something you were keeping hidden is now out, and to be acting as if this is all an orchestrated announcement by the club about how they are now going to lead the competition in change.

    What he's doing amounts to claiming that "The whole AFL culture is like this but it is actually only Collingwood that has confronted it and we should be applauded for our courage and now seen as leaders in this area."

    Wait... that's not 'what it amounts to', that's almost a word for word of what he's saying.

    Slimy #$%$#%.

    I'm tired of the Eddie love that somehow survives.  He's been bad for football in every way.

    Sounds like you are someone who 'does their own research'. Can I suggest looking up 'ad hominem' and why it is a fallacious approach to take when making an argument? 

    There is also nothing wrong or weak about taking a critical lens to your thoughts and opinions and interrogating yourself about them. Give it a crack, someday.

    Racist against whom? Based on what factual evidence exactly?

    The person of which you speak is a Distinguished Professor with an OA and a FASSA. This means they are exceptionally versed in evidenced-based reasoning.

    So what is yours?

    I read what Eddie said, but there are always certain words missing from his statements. Simple words, like 'sorry' or 'apologize'. 

    Simple words which are sometimes all people would like to hear.

    It doesn't seem like much to ask. But Eddie apparently has never heard of these words or he just doesn't want to use them.

    Actually, a joint report by two leading academics in the field: Professor Larissa Behrendt and Professor Lindon Coombes, both from the University of Technology in Sydney. Apart from having had a number of roles in the NSW govt., Coombes also worked at that hotbed of lefty radicalism, Price Waterhouse Cooper.

    What's right and wrong are determined by the masses, every club was like that in the 80's and 90's, the masses in society all use to tell racist jokes and think it was humour, so it was ok, the masses use to make jokes and slurs against gay people, the masses thought it was ok to hate them, so it was ok, now the masses think it's wrong to tell racist jokes and hate gay people so now it is not ok and rightly so.

    The press conference today is a sadly ironic window into the precise problem this report is trying to highlight.

    Rather than true acknowledgement of the issue, Eddie tries to spin it in the most egregiously stupid way possible by opening with the "historic and proud day" comment. A pathetic attempt to suggest Collingwood deserves to be congratulated for instigating the investigation.

    And his comment that Collingwood wants to put an arm around Lumumba and take the heat out of the race debate is unbelievable, from a moral standpoint as well as a PR one. That's not, in the slightest, the right thing to do.

    A press conference of brand management, narrative shifting and damage control. The same things that strike at the heart of Collingwood's broken leadership/culture in the first place.

    Some of these from the players' own teammates. The nickname of 'Storm Boy' given to Sean Charles a case in point.

    Put me down as someone less convinced by the 'systemic' part of this. That's a result that happens when you get academics in to study the real world through their fantasy land lenses.

    Yes the constant self praise can be tiresome but the AFL industry is one where Indigenous people are far more represented, respected and well paid than almost any other in this country. Every club surely has an Indigenous welfare and community representatives too.

    Spare me the need for quotas across the entirety of the club, 'truth telling' and auditing the board.

    The biggest issue at Collingwood is having an unchallenged leader with massive blindspots. The only system that needs to change is to make sure there's accountability at the top. More diversity could help, it's hardly a surprise that a white male of his generation has the blinkers on but if Eddie is picking yes men or yes women it doesn't matter what their backgrounds are. 

    17 other clubs don't need special reports and 18 recommendations just to keep on doing the right thing.

    According to Peter Ryan of The Age, Eddie said the Magpies desperately wanted to reconcile with Lumumba, who chose not to be interviewed by the independent review. "He's one of us. He doesn't feel that at the moment and it breaks our heart. We want him to be one of us," McGuire said.

    Last October Lumumba lodged a claim in the Supreme Court alleging Collingwood breached its duty of care....that he was subjected to racial abuse and the club did nothing. His lawyer, Rhea Dillon said, "the report vindicates our client's claims."

    'Lumumba is seeking acknowledgment of the racism, an apology and compensation.'

    Lumumba has used social media since last year to voice his claims and seek an apology from Collingwood. In December he said on social media he had been denied access to the report, despite it being completed.

    I have put in bold the key words.  Still now, Eddie cannot give an apology. He still does not get it. Lumumba was never made to feel he was "one of us". That is the whole point. Those two words, 'apology' and 'compensation' must be so frightening to him.

    Why is it so hard for this man to say sorry?

    Footnote: Tony Armstrong told The Age "It was disappointing that ( the press conference ) didn't open with an apology. Very disappointing.....I'm pretty frustrated."

    I said at the time of the Adam Goodes incident that Eddie doesn't possess the self awareness to resign and the Collingwood board don't have the backbone to sack him. The absence of these attributes were on show again today.

    Definitely a train wreck of a press conference. 

    I listened in disbelief from both a PR viewpoint and moral standpoint. 

    It started off as embarrassing bur ended as shameful. 

    It reflects a leader that has run out of time and one who lacks humility and wisdom. A soon to be ex President, like another recent ex President who lost his way by his inability to see outside his own bubble. Ego and conceit in your own importance and infallibility always ends badly. Only crocodile tears will be shed.

      Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

      Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
